Back to my fact finding for our forthcoming trip. This presentation provides so much insight into the preparation for 6th June 1944.
David is a knowledgeable serviceman who himself would have been dependent on op Intel.
    Great stuff.

My foster father Ray (Sgt RM 11 Commando) met up with a navy diver whilst on sick leave at home in Cornwall, who was with the Combined Operations Pilotage Parties. He had; amongst other duties, collected samples from beaches to assist with the assessment for deploying tanks from landing craft. I remember him saying that there were around 200 or so Navy and Royal Engineers. Ray had been in Norway and France and missed out on Normandy because he contracted scarlet fever and downgraded. He went into the Royal Military Police until the end of the war, taking on Black Marketeers. This in itself should have been a memoir which he refused point blank in doing.

Dr. David Abrutat does great justice to and honors the brilliance, bravery, and memory of all those involved in these recon. and intell. missions about which he speaks, and has written. Exceptional program; a privilege to be able to listen to him, and learn so much.

Dr. Abrutat really knows his stuff; his book is a must-have for any ww2 history buff. this particular show provides good insight into the massive planning and work that were put into place years and months in advance of 6/6/44, otherwise known as Dday... all of which leads to a better appreciation of the Normandy campaign.

Information filled presentation in which any of those pieces probably could have been its own show.

This was an awesome show. The Intelligence work prior to D-Day is only given a cursory mention in most discussions of the operation. David, really pulls back the curtain to put a spotlight on this vital work. This is a must watch show for any student of D-Day.

Fascinating show. Wish the popular narrative, TV for example, would adjust to include stuff like this.

This show is Exhibit A in demonstrating the incredible shows on offer here on WW2 tv. Paul goes far deeper into the telling of the story of WWII than any other site I know of. A full appreciation for this story cannot be gained until you've been exposed to stories such as this one that David so ably presents. Uncovering the fact that reconnaissance photos were taken immediately after bombing missions along the Normandy coast, and then one day after that to determine the tidal effects on bomb craters is the kind of incredible detail we all search for---very well done boys! I am disappointed that we here in American can still not get David's book through Bookshop. Paul, perhaps you can encourage them to take pre orders?

this is a great presentation which adds loads more context to Dday & operations Neptune and Overlord. As Ben Mayne shared during the live chat, the "sheer scale of the build up is huge." and it's really fascinating.

It was about a month later he realised there was no sevond landing coming. But he had begun sending additional armoured units a couple of days after D-day
