Using terms found in the bible forces those who use those terms to stick with the definitions given in the bible as opposed to manmade terms that may have their definition gradually change over time. The same is true with "the great tribulation" as a title instead of the more biblically accurate "time of Jacob's trouble" which helps clarify that the focus of this time of tribulation is Israel and not the church. We bible believers may understand what we mean when we use those terms to name sound biblical doctrine but outsiders or new believers may get confused by other definitions given to those terms used by other religions.

It's all over the Bible, if you don't come to the Bible with a preconceived belief. And the "great tribulation" is the last 3 and half years of the 7 years total. You cannot say, since they are all God they don't act independently from each other.
