I always thought those things were so cool, but couldn't afford one when they were current. I was recently thinking of trying to make something similar with a Rasberry Pi and small ultrawide display that's got a similar screensize to the model 100. Would be nice to start with a non working one of these rather than trying to 3D print a custom case.
I wanted one of these SO badly when they were new. The local Radio Shack had a demo model. I once saw a used, working one for cheap something like 10 or 15 years ago and I still regret not buying it. It was gone when I went back.
@@CatSynthTV Oh, they're out there, I jut don't want to pay what they're asking. I think the last one I saw was like $200. This one was like $20. I'm actually messing with a Raspberry Pi at the moment (currently a Pwnagotchi I'm trying to see if I can make into a useful tool for my work), but I've thought about turning it into a Tandy 100 "clone." We'll see.
Thanks, will check the 0-modem bit. I found that hooking up serial when using battery power can make the machine freeze until you pull the batteries. I don't use the terminal on Mac, but the built in serial tool of the Arduino IDE, or Processing, with the later you can actually program something around the serial communication, like a file transfer tool.

Some folks have done that, i.e., used m100 cases with a Raspberry Pi.

Sorry you missed out on that one. They do still sometimes come up for sale under the average price, so hopefully you can find one 😺

Nice! I haven't tried using an Arduino or Processing yet, but the idea is definitely intriguing 😺
this is nice, I just got one of these at the dump and it works great I just need to learn to use it better,
Thanks. Hope we can help you learn 😺
Who would dump such an interesting retro computer?! I'm glad you found it and have given it a new home!
Yeah it’s my new typing buddy, the keyboard is so nice, I just need a way to get stuff off it.
@@bigbadhodad3894 yeah that is the challenge. Hopefully our tutorial on TPDD helps you with that - good luck!
@@CatSynthTV I got a Backpack for it and a dial a rom, such a useful little device now.
The model 100 was actually a little nicer. It was thicker, but the keyboard was solid and quiet, and the 102 was very noisy and cheap feeling.
going to have to boot up my apple ][ now :D
Nice! Have fun 😺
