    Thanks a bunch for the larger pattern! I made two masks yesterday, the pouch and removable filter version, one for me and one for my wife. The one for my wife came out super, but for mine, I used cotton flannel for the outside and a flour-sack sorta cotton for the inside middle. The flannel was a horrible choice I had lots of difficulty sewing it once I folded it and then refolded (like on the elastic fold over portion) since it was so thick. The mask looked good, and worked, but with my big nose and larger face it just left me no room inside and the mask was smushing against my mouth and 'honker'. I am going to try this larger, no pouch version next and use some regular cotton fabric like the type I used for my wifey. Thanks for your effort!

    🌟🌟🌟🌟Go here for the foam! www.ebay.com/itm/184271012488 I should have thought of this sooner! I made some precut foam for you all to purchase in my eBay store!!!! The interfacing you find at Walmart or Joann fabrics. (Could be in package or on a bolt). *they have a lot of interfacing choices- be sure it is only fusible on one side. *medium to lightweight *you could absolutely use a nonfusible one and sew it right in with fabric.
    THE FOAM- if you can’t find the 1/4” foam- improvise....you can cut down any foam to fit.
    Hope this helps!❤️✅✂️

    This mask looks great. I’ve never made a mask so I have a question. You said not to use pins because they leave holes so why not leave the part that was cut on the fold without that long seam, just seam the part that needs it? Also, is the top stitching necessary if we don’t want to make unnecessary holes? I’m not criticizing or anything. I’m just asking a question that might be a dumb question from someone like me who has not made any mask yet!

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  4 года назад +2

      BeatlesFanSonia I love all the questions! First you absolutely could leave that middle part unsewn and only so the chin and the nose area. I have done it both ways. I did the top stitching because of the small area that I needed to sew up where I turned it right side out. But you could just sew the opening only up. ✅❤️✂️❤️👍

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  4 года назад

      L Duffy The CDC states that you can use 100% cotton fabric masks in cases where there are no other masks available. This is for ppl that need to protect themselves as well as others while out and about. The interfacing actually acts like a N 95 mask… I did a flame test on it and it passed. ❤️ to answer your question though I’ve done no actual scientifically proven bacteria virus test on it, just the flame test.✅✂️❤️

    I have one question does the glue on the interfacing restrict the air flow through the cotton? Using pins on cotton fabric makes a smaller hole than the sewing needle used to sew the mask. When cotton is washed the fabric will shrink up slightly which will tighten the weave and any holes.

    • @TheSewingChannel
      @TheSewingChannel  4 года назад +1

      Sew Creative Designs I don’t believe so..... the interfacing adds just a bit more protection- it is very light weight. Interfacing varies in thickness so your protection would vary. ✂️✅❤️

      Our local hospital asked us not to use interfacing. They wash in HOT water and after several washings the interfacing was letting go and making a wrinkled mess in the masks. It might be OK for personal use and hand washing.

      I can’t remember (the day I used it- I didn’t have any of the packaging to check) - I would go more for “lighter” interfacing if you use it. I think the one I used was a tad too thick for a mask. ✅✂️

      Nancy Terrell you can buy at Walmart or Joann fabric. It is made by Pellon but any brand will work. I don’t have the # of what I used as it comes on a bolt and they cut what I need. So I have no packaging to share. When you go to the store -ask for one sided fusible interfacing. They have TONS to choose from. Just choose medium “weight”. If it’s too thick or firm you won’t be able to turn it right side out. I hope that helps. ✅✂️
