More of the reason it’s a cultural thing in most part of the world for the wife to change her name to her husband’s name is to form that bond, make up one family. Even, the Holy book says it, ‘ the 2 shall become one’. If both continue to keep different name in the marriage, dat alone will subconsciously make d woman feel she’s not in one family as the husband.

At this point, I don't think I want to continue listening to this podcast, the lady on scarf and armless shirt seems to have this bias and bitterness against men.
Like the brother said, if it's not broken why did it. The argument about changing identity is not correct and the fact that she and some women think that way is part of the reason our family system is falling apart. That your name that you feel is your identity was given to you. You didn't choose it yourself. Your father's name was also given to him.
The idea of surname in a marriage is relevant to give that union an identity. Man and woman becoming one.
It's not an african thing, it a humanity thing.
