    It must be a tough situation for Amy cause she took part in this wtt tour right after the US olympic trial three days ago. Even though she lost, I think her skill level is world-class. They had been even to head-to-head match by far, but Adriana moved one step forward after this match. Really enjoyed this game. Thanks.

      Amy is currently head and shoulder above everyone else in US (except may be Lily Zhang can give her some challenge). This match shows Amy is now a unquestioned world class player. I want to say Amy's luck is bad in drawing Diaz in the first round, but it's better than drawing a Chinese or Japanese player.

    • @kitcooks
      @kitcooks 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@unwishfulthinklily Zhang is no match for amy Wang, Zhang hasn’t been able to beat Wang in their last 10 meetings.
      Only reason Zhang is ranked higher is because she’s spent more time on the wttf tour

      @@kitcooks Well, it's time for Amy to spend more time on WTT tour as well. She is at that level now.

      Amy is too soft. Her style will not let her go far on a world level. I think the style of Miwa Harimoto is way to go. Lily tries to have the aggressive style, but her consistency is an issue

    • @LevelUpCewb
      @LevelUpCewb 9 месяцев назад +1

      here's what I'll say
      It's a weird situation. Lily Zhang is better against most opponents, but Amy Wang is able to beat Lily Zhang most of the time.
      We see a lot of this in table tennis
      Look at Lin Shidong, he beat Fan Zhendong in Singapore Smash, and lost to timo boll next round. It's cause Lin Shidong is very used to playing Fan Zhendong, which is the same situation here. Amy Wang is used to playing Lily Zhang.

    I have seen Adriana get careless and playing down to her opponent's level. Not here. Amy is really that good. Looking forward to Amy-Adriana rivalry in future Pan American tournaments.

    • @sherryz22
      @sherryz22 9 месяцев назад

      Interesting, I didn’t see Adriana get careless. Rather, Amy did not move actively in this match. Her level is below Adriana, at least at this moment. She is also too slim to make a strong attack.

    • @unwishfulthink
      @unwishfulthink 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@sherryz22 That's my point. Adriana did not get careless here, Amy is just that good. Also you are probably underestimating Amy's power. TT is a sport powered by core and quad, muscles that are not visible. Amy's long arms and relaxed style is perfect for delivering her core and quad power to the ball.
      Also, the fact that Amy did not have to move very much and still able to compete this effectively against Adriana is an indication that Amy has huge upside. Any TT coach would tell you to not back off the table, it's just hard not to when opponent is smacking. The fact that Amy is able to stay close to the table while handling Adriana's killer backhand punch tells me Amy got scary potential.

    • @sherryz22
      @sherryz22 9 месяцев назад

      @@unwishfulthink ok, she is perfect, too perfect to stay in that rank. If she is really that good, I did not recall seeing her could even come to the 2nd round of wtt events.

    • @unwishfulthink
      @unwishfulthink 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@sherryz22 lol, obviously she is not that good yet. Also, US being US, it's really hard to have good TT talent, it's not like Amy can beat the Chinese national team member (tho we can hope) any time soon. But Jimmy Butler said Amy is the most talented US-born female TT player ever, I think he is right.

    Amy Wang has a lot of potential. She might seem slow but she hits the ball early which puts pressure on her opponent by leaving them less time to react.

    AW is very skillful and balanced, but her athleticism is not on par with the top 20 players. She was also clearly nervous.

    Amy Wang never steps back from the table. She's a short-hopper who stays right on top of the table. Maybe she can play slower spin shots when facing backspin. Adriana Diaz was better on the big points.

    in a match between Wang and Diaz, it appears that Wang is afraid to make a mistake and keep looking at her coach Gao
    because wang feels intimidated by the coach. Gao should encourage her and not point out her mistakes as it makes her really nervous. better still, get the coach out of there.let wang play by herself

      She is quiet in her approach, but 0 power seems a tad extreme. I do agree that her athleticism is a question, but she was clearly nervous in this match. I disagree about lack of fight. She is used to winning and worked hard for years to make the US Olympic team. It must be hard to be number 1 or 2 in your country and come to an international tournament and get thrashed!

      From the match I just watched, Amy had no difficulty hitting the ball past Adriana, often leaving her flat-footed. Both players are outstanding.

    • @chimyshark
      @chimyshark 9 месяцев назад

      @@mrwopsle I see Amy dropping rallies all the time because she was ball-watching, didn't anticipate the ball coming back, and being scared of big smashes. I've always considered that lack of fight. Against players below her, she is merciless, but against players above, I don't think she has it in her personality to eek out wins.

    • @mrwopsle
      @mrwopsle 9 месяцев назад +2

      @@chimyshark I see your point, but I don't see how lack of anticipation is a personality flaw. It seems more a matter of physical capacity. It is a shame that the US doesn't invest in TT and that TT in the US fails to attract its most gifted athletes.
