Sadie and Carla were one of the most authentic mother/daughter pairs ever on a daytime drama. Carla, Ed, and Sadie should have continued on OLTL for many more years beyond the mid-80s. I would have loved to have seen Ed and Carla's wedding.

Blame the bullies and bigots who wanted them off the show especially after Holly and Lilly were honored for being the longest running and original actors during a gala for the shows 15th anniversary. should see Ellen's interview about her treatment by the behind the scenes people.

aiden877 Have you read her autobiography, One Life. She goes into even more detail about everything that went on behind the scenes throughout the years in OLTL (and other things) than the interview could give her time to do.

It makes me so angry that Ellen Holly and the Black actors on OLTL were treated so badly and unfairly. They were under pair while the white actors were paid well and treated professionally.

Second part: HOWEVER, after all of the benefits "One Life" got from Holly's presence on the show and storyline, she and the actress who played her mother, Sadie, were unceremoniously dumped with little respect or courtesy. Soon after, the show became significantly "whiter".

@@Supremmo , okay. But my point is, there were, indeed, black people on the show. Ellen Holly stated that her best years were 1968-1970. So she was treated as an afterthought during the entire decade of the 70s. She was even an afterthought at her own wedding in 1973. The entire focus was on the white characters.

The creator of OLTL Agnes Nixon goes into great detail about the Carla character here on RUclips (just type her name) from a documentary that was done on her several years ago. That storyline about Carla passing as a white women cause a lot of confusion and controversy back in the day. Hell, it was that storyline that put OLTL at the top of the ratings and attracted a lot of black viewers back in the late 60's & early 70's.

Does anyone know if there’s video on RUclips of Carla passing for white? I wished I could have seen that! When I started watching One Life in early 1984 Ellen’s role was greatly diminished on the show but I knew of the character’s history.

mrob75 I did not say it was taped in black and white. I said it was SEEN in black and white in most markets in 1968. During that time most markets had not yet made the transition to color transmissions. SOOOO even though OLTL was taped in color, the ABC affiliates aired it in black and white.
