5:47 *Gets overthrown for forbidding beans*
5:55 Russell shares disdain for beans

that off-hand Einstein/Mrs. Eddy reference was amazingly illuminating in itself. Thinking of the state of the times, at the tail end of industrial medicine getting away from homeopathy.
The discussion of the taboos is amusing, his delivery of the word "beans" is great. But they do tend to have symbolic importance that should be discussed, like how the symbolism of the white cock alludes to his theory/worship of the sun, and how the not stirring a fire with iron, I think is an allusion to his doctrine on temperance. It also defacto forbids becoming a blacksmith which in itself would preclude one from any Hephaestian cult with their own taboos in favor of being a blacksmith.

I love those Pythagorean rules. They sound like something out of Monty Python.

So Pythagoras says we shouldn't eat from a whole loaf, but also that we should not break the bread. Contradiction!

I assume you can cut the bread, but not break - or rip it - although the same thought did catch my mind.

No, rather it implied that the whole of people can not be Pythagorians. What he meant was let others break the bread but don't do such if you are my disciple.

Pythagoreans was a secret , mystic group and as such they had their own internal secret code language. Dont break bread was a simbolic expression that meant never break a friendship

by understanding work in the 4th dimension, you will come to see that this life in the third dimension is only a sliver what is occurring. if you cement your life and beliefs in the third dimension, you will never be able to ascend to a reality which we only see a piece of. growth is character, which can be refined in this third dimension. character affects all the planes below.

As I write this Hindus are making substantiated claims backed by proofs that the greek philosophs did not travel to Egypt as here Russel is saying : "Pythagoras was said to have travelled to Egypt were he acquired the foundation of his knowledge." but to India. And massive blow, Hindus knew of the right angle theorem many thousands year before pythagoras who most likely got it from them.
Hindu are currently claiming an 80k years old civilization. All famous greeks were student of India.
