It's relatively short, to be honest, the story develops way too fast without any time to let any of the events sink in. The impact from Forsaken was far better.
Fun fact: the red war was originally going to be called forge of Gods. It was meant to be a dlc for d1. Unfortunately that was scrapped and instead rise of iron was made. This also caused a vex dlc to be scrapped. However a cutscene from this vex dlc was leaked and was later used for the season of undying.
I think there's been a conflict in script here though, seeing as how in certain events, at least in both early and later part of Destiny 1 and 2, a Valus is seen more of a captain or at least a high officer of a squad/legion. For example, Valus Nohr, it was said that she commanded the Shadows of Calus, yes, an elite force, but not a group large enough to be considered a faction of its own, otherwise she would have authority over a significant amount of Calus's loyalist legions. Another example is Valus Thuun, or even Valus Pra'urg who would appear as the main, or mini bosses of the strikes Tree of Probabilities and The Insight Terminus separately. While they do hold authority over some, it's not quite as significant as Zavala, as he is the acting commander of the entire Vanguard, including the Hunter and Warlocks. Though on paper Ikora is still the Warlock Vanguard, it's no surprise that everyone looks towards Zavala in a much higher capacity. Why I would say Primus fits the bill here is that some strong examples is before Ghaul took on the mantle of Dominus(Emperor) of the Cabal Empire, his role was the Primus of the Red Legion, which is a standing faction of its own. Another example is Umun Arath, Evocate-General, also known as Primus of all Legions. Lastly, Primus Ta'aun was the commander of the Skyburners legion. Edit: But still, there's been some inconsistencies with the scripts every here and there, would you happen to know which EDZ dialogue specifically, so we can look into it as well?
@@Moffee I think it’s the heroic extraction rig where you kill the excavator Valus which both your ghost and Devrim refer to as a commander at some point, and I was talking about the cabal “commander” rank, which is probably an informal equivalent to Valus
@@Moffee also, if I’m not mistaken, I think it was stated in the first Destiny that cabal had to wear pressurized suits in order to live in our atmosphere so their bodies were completely covered up in D1, however in D2 I guess that idea was scrapped because a lot of the cabal are shown with their skin exposed. Maybe there’s an explanation for why the change occurred in the lore somewhere or Bungie just wanted to change things up because they didn’t like the original idea. I find it interesting regardless.
Seeing D1 Cabal (Or any enemy really), they look a LOT more ready for military operations, sporting heavier armor plating. In D2, they seem to have dropped a lot of it for more "symbolic" looking uniforms.

Design of the cabal: roman empire, but diesel punk
the more we know about Psions the more I'm convinced that the Cabal "conquering" them was only because they let them.

Because they were.
Commander is equivalent to a Valus according to dialogue from some EDZ public events.

I loved the design models for the cabal on D1. On D2 they look overly techie and look like hamsters. D1 they looked a lot more rugged and barbaric.
