Your hair looks nice. I hope you dont take this wrong.I'm just going to give my opinion based on my experience and what I've seen. I've been locked for almost 7 years, and I don't have lint and no receding hair line.. Apple cider vinegar is to remove product out of your hair, not lint removal. Also, any hairstyle can cause breakage, balding, etc. It depends on the person. I know of people who have had locs for 20 years and have no problems. If your ponytail is too tight or you wear your up all the time, it can cause breakage and thinning. So it just depends on the individual. Just my opinion.
My locs are also around 7yo but unfortunately I'm working with a receding hairline from wearing it up in a bun too often. I'll probably comb them out this year, I feel so sad about letting them go.
Good advice. I had locs for 8 and 1/2 years and loved them until i began experiencing female pattern baldness and CCCA that was getting worse as my locs got longer and heavier. People in the loc community get a bit judgemental when you tell them you have to get rid of them. Growing locs is a journey and at times some people will need to end that journey, but its okay. We need to be more accepting of different natural styles and not judge people for their choices.
Locs are another natural hair style Or protective style. Ppl need to understand it doesn’t have to be a lifestyle. Everyone is so extra when it comes to black hair they need to back off and let us live.
Yes, the hair especially on the hairline, has come back about 80%. I think it was due to the tension in an already fragile area that it came out. It helps to have a good diet and Nutrofol.
@greta6243..Here I am 11 months later reading this comment. This is exactly what I started to experience with the hair thinning. Not educating myself on having locs. Had my locs would have been 4 years August. As soon as my hair started getting little length, here I go wanting hair styles. And this is where I totally ruined them. The young lady that was doing my hair was not a Loctitian, and me not educating myself enough went all wrong. I don't regret cutting my hair, to be honest I am relieved and know my hair will grow, and grow back healthier. I believe this made me depressed because I wanted this for so long. 😮
I love the way your hair look and I've always believed that lack of information before starting the Loc journey is what caused a lot of loc mistakes. When I saw locs I knew that it's what I should have done a long time ago, so I went straight into it and also immediately started digging up ways to maintain healthy locs, and that's what I have, Im also full of information on what I can and cannot do to my locs hence, what my channel is majorly about. I feel i need to share what learnt and stop people from damaging their locs.
Thank you for watching! I definitely agree that a lack of information can cause mistakes during the journey. I also believe that you can do research (as I did) and still come across things during the journey that you wouldn't have known because everyone's journey and hair is different. BUT if I do ever get locs in the future, I will definitely be more informed and go about certain aspects differently in terms of the physical health of my hair. I will check out your channel!!!
I’m in the process of combing out my last 25 locs and as much as I enjoyed them; as you said it is a journey and not a final destination. I did the whole gamut of hairstyles before locs, I really missed running my fingers through my hair and my scalp is sensitive and that tension even from just swimming was REAL. I just couldn’t do it anymore and I wasn’t going to continue to sacrifice my hair for the “look” and acceptance into the group.
You're almost there boo!! I completely understand, especially when it comes to that tension. Only you know what works best for you on your journey. There's no box or group to fit into and I wish people understood that. Glad you do!
@@anitaasworldd yes! Acv is for product buildup. You can gently brush your hair to remove lint. A lot of thinning is caused by stylists pulling the hair too much. Which can happen with many different styles. This is one of the reasons why I learned to do my hair myself; so I can control how much tension is on my hair and prevent thinning. When I went to stylists, I'd tell them my scalp is sensitive or that they were pulling too hard and they wouldn't listen. If
Most loc wearers are in denial about most if what you're talking about. I wore locs for over a decade, and they looked the neatest from the outside and I shampooed my hair every single week. But lint is real. Hair thinning is real. ETC. Couldn’t take it anymore all for the sake of having a certain look. The whole video is on point, even if some swear it's all due to lack of knowledge... it's not. I did my research before and during the journey. There are a lot of lies and hidden truths about the loc journey. Loved your vid ❤
THANK YOUUUUU!!! You get it lol because I def did my research but no amount of research can prepare you for what your personal experience could be like. Glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate you comment
And how much hair type and texture plays into maintenance. My hair loc'd still grows as if it's loose natural, so that's extra manipulation that has to be done 🙃
im in the process of taking mine down. And all while i was locked i never had lint build up that i knew of or saw. Now that i have taken some down, i see a lot of lint. It was on the inside and hidden within the loc. If you have locs, you have lint. I think the best loc kings and queens can do i check daily for lint that you can pull off the loc before it gets imbedded. And of course cover when laying down.
Hi, first I want to say that I agree with what you said for the most part. Tension, and balding can become a big issue for some individuals with locs, lint is the bane of most loc'd people's existence, and some people push their ideals on what having locs/going through the loc journey should be like onto others. However, I also want to say that with tension, thinning, balding, and breakage there are genetic, and lifestyle components. I have been loc'd for about 3 years now and I have not experienced any tension or balding issues. It depends on the person. Lint on the other hand, is a valid issue. I've been pretty consistent about wearing my loc sock but I've noticed that I still have lint (albeit minimal) in some of my locs. However, I do not think lint is such a bad thing :) I see it as a part of having locs. If you have locs you are bound to get lint eventually. I brush my hair, and wear my loc sock, and if I get lint, I get lint. There's no point in obsessing over it, or trying to pick it out to the point where it causes damage. If you take care of your locs it will be minimal. I don't have much to say about your last point, because I didn't know you could comb out locs for the longest time too lol. A lot of people will get locs for spiritual reasons and push that on to other people as well. People also make it out to be a big commitment, I think there's some validity to that, but like you said it's not irreversible, or permanent. Thank you for sharing your experience, more people will get a holistic view of locs before getting them.
2008 is when I started my loc journey. For whatever reason, I started seeing lint throughout my locs, which I have never experienced before now. So, I am on my next journey of combing out my locs.
I have seen a lot of heads that probably should not be locked, my scalp isn't sensitive but I keep my hair loosely lifted with a satin scrunchy to prevent unraveling. I think this also helps relieve the pull on my scalp
Thank you for sharing. I know everyone is locing now but I had locs for a month and I missed my curls BAD!! 🤣🤣 continuing on the journey with free hair ❣️

I’m 8 months locd as of yesterday! When did you start brushing your locs? I mean how far into your loc journey we’re you when you started brushing your locs. My locs are just sitting on my neck. It’s not a lot of length but I love the freedom and I can shake my hair - couldn’t do that as a loose natural. I worry with length I may get lint. Brushing might be good to try. Ok so i was going to start a loc journey but my loose hair gives me tension when its to long. I cut off all my hair in may afyer 4 years because my hair was giving me headaches and i kept having to figure out how to wear my hair so it didn't give me tension headaches. So I'm just going to do month long twist and keep my hair to a certain length.
Thank you for sharing your experience! Since cutting my locs I’ve found that wearing my natural hair in braids or twists has been soo helpful. It’s minimal tension and keeps my hair from tangling up.
Thanks for the video! The possible tension/hair loss was the only thing that was stopping me from getting locs, this confirmed I made the right decision to stay loose.
Depends on how you take care of them, tho. There's plenty of ppl tht had locs for years and had no problems. Gotta make the decision for you. If u really do want to try them don't let one's bad experience turn you away ❤💯
Lol I love my locs but I’m not sure how long i will keep them. I’ll see, I am taking my journey one step at the time and I’m constantly learning on this journey. Every single one of my hair journeys taught me something about myself ❤
Locs are just not for you. I hope you take care of your hair, don’t keep putting heat in it, cut off the dead ends, all of them so the hair won’t split up….enjoy your curly hair. Can’t wait to see your new hair journey. ❤❤❤
It depends how it retiwsted, im starting my journey friday im going for 1 year for growth plus am lazy natural since i have young kids its easier just to rewist
I left my front out (like a leave out so I had loose hair bangs ) because I was worried about the tension /lose of hairline and to have a little extra flare. And I planned on cutting them if they get too long and heavy. However. I want to get rid of mine Sometimes because I like change. But I also dont like the maintenance with loose hair so idk...
1000% agree. My hair was so thin and balding/ breaking at the crown … everywhere eventually. I think Locs are advertised now as “the way black ppl are meant to wear our hair”. So not true 🤦🏾♀️ Now my hair is extremely short bc I had to cut it.
Omg, I’m sorry you had to go through that! These are some of the hard truths of the journey. Everyone’s hair and scalp responds differently and there’s so many factors. Wishing you all the best on your journey
Wow your hair😍😍🔥 I would like to know I’m 2 month into my lock journey ,my locks was done with the wax gel and my Loctician said if I want to crochet it I can’t comb it out. If they crochet my hair I can’t comb it out?
I recently combed out my locs. It was my second set. My first set I started off with long hair abt mid back length. My locs had curly ends too. However, I didn’t know much about how to maintain my hair even tho I went to a loctitian. I cut them because my loctitian had left and I just didn’t want to let my hair get worse from no maintenance. Second set I started off with short hair. I loved both sets and was able to get my hair maintained by a stylist. I knew much more abt locs and almost had them for 2 full years. But, I started to feel unhappy with my journey. I was very depressed and anxious in my life, a lot of life changes, family deaths and injuries, so I decided to comb mine out. I felt bad at first and guilty, but I honestly think it was the best decision I made for myself. I started having tender scalp where ponytails and hair styles would hurt. I didn’t get retwists but every 2-2 1/2 to 3 months because my hair could go a little while longer. But I also started to feel unattractive with my hair. Idk if it had anything to do with how I felt within myself with a lot of challenges happening at the time, but I just needed a change. I combed them out and started to feel better like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Mine were pretty clean with minimal lint around the nape area. However, everyone’s journey is different. Now I say instead of my loc journey, it’s my hair journey.
Thank you for this video 🙏🏾💚 I just combed out my locs and noticed alot of thinning. Any tips on regrowing and restrengthening hair quickly? I truly appreciate it 🙏🏾💚😊

Thank you for sharing there! I have some tension around the perimeter because my hair isn't long enough to fit comfortably in a ponytail. I am curious to know if you were wearing ponytails and styles frequently?

I just combed mine out just shy of having microlocs for a year. Same reason. Tension and sever scalp dander. I cldnt do it anymore . My scalp wld hurt
I am think I am going to take mine out around summer because of thinning at the front of my hair. By then I would have had them in for 4.5 years
Do what’s best for you and the health of your hair!
Thanks for the video! The possible tension/hair loss was the only thing that was stopping me from getting locs, this confirmed I made the right decision to stay loose.
That’s her experience that loose hair is going to shed & become thin as well. Her length will get shorter too if she keeps on straightening it.

Yes, I love that!
Good luck on your journey 🫶🏾
@@anitaasworldd any advice also im doing it on transitoning hair
Your locs looked gorgeous on you but I support your decision to comb them out… I’m currently about 14 months in
Thank you!! I lovvveeddd my locs but it was time spiritually and physically. I bet your locs are gorgeous as well, enjoy the journey!!
I left my front out (like a leave out so I had loose hair bangs ) because I was worried about the tension /lose of hairline and to have a little extra flare. And I planned on cutting them if they get too long and heavy.
However. I want to get rid of mine Sometimes because I like change. But I also dont like the maintenance with loose hair so idk...
will you do a video about how you combed them out? how long? combs? products?
Sure, I can do that!
Thanks for sharing! I’m thinking of getting locs and it’s helpful to know things to look out for and to prepare myself 🥳
1000% agree. My hair was so thin and balding/ breaking at the crown … everywhere eventually.
I think Locs are advertised now as “the way black ppl are meant to wear our hair”. So not true 🤦🏾♀️
Now my hair is extremely short bc I had to cut it.
Omg, I’m sorry you had to go through that! These are some of the hard truths of the journey. Everyone’s hair and scalp responds differently and there’s so many factors. Wishing you all the best on your journey
Wow your hair😍😍🔥
I would like to know I’m 2 month into my lock journey ,my locks was done with the wax gel and my Loctician said if I want to crochet it I can’t comb it out.
If they crochet my hair I can’t comb it out?
Thank you for watching! I am not a professional when it comes to combing out locs so I am not sure about crochet.
@@anitaasworldd thanks for your honesty ❤️
Your hair looks amazing
Your hair looks good!
Thank you for sharing, I hope you are doing better
I think I can relate to some of your challenges like not feeling attractive enough, not being happy with the journey etc
i’m thinking about combining mine out
Why?
Thank you for this video 🙏🏾💚 I just combed out my locs and noticed alot of thinning. Any tips on regrowing and restrengthening hair quickly? I truly appreciate it 🙏🏾💚😊
I’m not a professional, but what has worked for me is trimming the dead hair at least twice a year and being consistent w deep conditioning/hot oil treatments. Thank you for watching and good luck on your journey
Steam treatments with conditioner and essential oils work for me with regrowing hair
Thank you for this vid sis❤️🙏🏾 i still plan on going on a loc journey but you reminded me that it's a journey. Not loc'd in lol❤️
Yes, everyone’s journey is unique
Thanks for sharing, trying to learn the most I can before I loc
I definitely dye my locs jet black to cover up lint 😅🥴🤷🏽♀️😄
lol no shame😂
Your fiddle lead fig is so cute
Thank you!! I've been trying to keep it alive LOL
I want to comb mine out had em 8yrs 🤦🏽♂️
I have 4c hair . My locs are a little past my shoulders . I was thinking of combing them out , but I'm not sure if I'd have hair left haha
Honestly, it’s up to you! You could comb it out and see what you can retain then cut what’s necessary.
Trying doing just one loc and see how much effort it takes and how you feel…
I have 4c hair and I combed mine out during the 2020 lockdown. I had more head on my head than I did before I loc'd it.
@@tiffanylarie I have 4 c hair and have been combing out my locs for the past 2 days (not all day, just like 4-6 hours). I’m 2/3 of the way done and my hair looks surprisingly healthy. Will definitely need a deep treatment and trim but what will be left will be a good deal longer than what I had 1 year ago when I locked.
@@ocky88 it took me 2 weeks! I'd advise to get a good protein treatment followed by a deep moisturizing conditioner
Hi, did you crotchet your locs at any time or did you always twist? Asking in tens of the difficulty of the combing out
Hi, I did not crochet, only twists
Thank you for sharing there! I have some tension around the perimeter because my hair isn't long enough to fit comfortably in a ponytail. I am curious to know if you were wearing ponytails and styles frequently?
I mainly wore it down because whenever I did an updo, it would be uncomfortable. At most, I would do half up half down. Thank you for watching and sharing your insight!
I started 2 months and I’m ready to comb mine out b/c I am getting a lot of breakage and I am tired of wearing a hair wrap everyday
That’s understandable, do what is best for you and the health of your hair.
The lint family pissed me off😂
chilleee I was trying to avoid it at all costs lol
@@anitaasworldd same! Currently combing mine out and the lint in the locs is actually killing me😑
It’s so much more than you think once you start combing it out. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing this!
Hi .. I'm just finding your channel. How did you start your locs tho!? I'm asking cause I'm thinking of loving my hair but I also want to be able to comb it out whenever I get to a point that I want to
Hi, thank you for tuning in! I started my locs on my own as two strand twists.
How long were you locked? I don’t think I heard you say the time?
1.5yrs, I mentioned it in the beginning but I’ll be doing another video w more details on my locs and the combing out process
I think ppl get way too serious about locs...its hair! It pops off. It grows back. I hear ppl say that their locs are their babies, or they don't want ppl touching them. I have had my locs for 25 yrs! It's just hair ppl
It ain’t just hair for many people. My locs are a spiritual journey for me anda lot of other people I know too.
It’s just hair as you said. All these other folks are just extra
So some people have thin hair and others don’t after they take out their hair??
Everyone 's experience is different locs broke my hair
omg alignment , not you combed your locs out too 😭 your hair is beautiful either way!
Crazy how the universe works!! Thank you love
Thanks for sharing!!!!!!!!
Thank you for watching!!!!!
I think you just missed your curls and that’s okay. ❤
Have anyone use detangler shampoo or conditioner to comb their locs out?
All of this minus the lint is why I cut my 8 year locks. They thin your hair especially if you’re a middle age woman
Thank you for keeping it real and sharing your experience
Nice!!🤍🤎🤍
I had locks for a year and never had lint, you was not always wearing. I have pics to prove that i never had lint.
Great, I am glad that worked out for you. Thank you for watching!
I think black women look beautiful with dreadlocks

Thanks for sharing! This was helpful.
Lint buildup is killing me😢
I feel you girl!
@@anitaasworldd I combed them out 😁 took me five days 🤣😭
Can u comb out 4c locs?
You sure can! Regardless of hair type, the process requires patience and dedication. I know someone personally who has 4c hair and was able to successfully comb out their locs.
