  • Abel Ibarra is one of the legends of import drag racing and during the late 90s and early 2000s his Mazda R100 was at one time the quickest and fastest Mazda drag car and import racecar. Abel tells us how it all happened, shares his connection to AEM and talks about his goals for the car now that it is resurrected for action at the strip. Check out the vintage footage and a pull on the dyno with the new engine and electronics package!

    sakura racing 2.6 mitsubishi engine and rafaelito racing 13b rotary were both running in the 7 seconds in the late 90s both from puerto rico and they were both the fastest 4 cylinder and rotary on the planet. but still i have a lot of respect for abel ibarra

    Great upload! Huge fan of Abel and his r100. I have loved r100's ever since first seeing this in a mag probably 20 yrs ago.

    I love that car! Just seeing the pictures of it, and reading its results on all the import magazines made my day back in high school. Abel Ibarra and Efrain Vasquez raced that car into legendary status. That R100 is a Hall of Famer. And the RX7, & RX8 drag cars are the shit, too!

    I watched Ibarra run at LACR in Palmdale... If I remember correctly, I saw him hit the divider and walk away unscathed. Great guy!

    Sakura racing was the fastest import back in the day before Abel came in to the picture. oh and is from Puerto Rico
