after years of watching and loving your content, i am truly so happy that you’re consciously trying to give sustainable ways to shop a go!! i know that it’s a slow and steady change (as it is for most) but the fact that you are trying it out speaks volumes 🥰 the fast fashion industry really is so damaging to our environment. anyway, that lilac piece looks absolutely stunning on ya, gal :’) keep it up!!

Noticed some comments saying the States are cheaper for second hand clothing but I don’t think of vintage and thrifting as the same thing. A thrift store is like a charity store in the UK; normal people donate things they don’t wear anymore and usually they are run by non-profits but vintage stores are for curated vintage pieces and usually are normal/higher prices.

Honestly I feel the same thing happens here expect there called consignment shops or they slap a different name on it to make is sound fancier then it is. Like today I sold some clothes to a shop, where as charity shops you wouldn’t get any money back it would just be a tax donation slip you get back. These shops where you sell things to tend to be a little bit cheaper than normal price tho. Tho I would say some consignment shops are better than “curating” there selection than others.

Sammy! I have been waiting for this video/hairstyle for what feels like a lifetime. I have been wanting to see you with this cut and color, it looks absolutely beautiful on you!
This past month I’ve been really interested in zero/less waste and have been reluctant to change my clothes shopping habits but this has been a little boost of courage to tackle on the sometimes dreadfully scary and sometimes unorganized second hand shopping! Let’s be better environmentally and economically sustainable!
Side note I’ve been following you for many years now and this is the first time I’ve ever commented on a video on youtube(I’m an old lady and also too lazy to ever comment on any content), but you are my favorite vlogger there is. You’re so personable and real and the most kind hearted RUclipsr there is.
Keep doing you lady because there are a lot of us that have been watching you since Uni that still are rooting for you and enjoying seeing you flourish! 🌻
    🖤La

I would love to see another vintage shopping video come spring! I agree with you that when I vintage shop it's for certain things. it's not always the best place if you need you're looking for a specific item, but for gym or work clothes it works really well. Then when you have to time to look around some more, that's when I find the really interesting pieces I could see myself wearing everyday.

I always buy boots like Dr Martens second hand even if I only get about 20 quid off. I don't want to break those in and get blisters, thank you very much! I also do the same with converse. I wreck mine so if I can buy ones that have been only worn once for 50% of the price, I will!
My best purchase was a second hand rust H&M premium wool coat that was £20 when RRP it was over 100. Worn it every day in the winter.
Also, do the same with designer handbags. Chanel were made better back then, so a 1990s classic flap will have solid gold hardware. Sometimes shopping vintage is better!

I was in London last week and I went to the same br and rokit xD but honestly I found them a little overpriced. I suggest you Pop boutique that is in Covent garden too (really close to Rokit),Onimos near Brick lane and the Octavia foundation charity shop near Victoria station (great selection and the ladies there are sooo kind). And for indipendent brand and vintage stuff I recently got into Asos marketplace (and of course, good old ebay!). I love these kind of videos Sammi,I myself am trying too to cut off fast fashion so is nice that youtubers too are becoming more conscious about the problem. Thank you :)

I love all your videos Samantha but I absolutely loved this one! I think it´s such a good idea to go vintage shopping for a change; everyone seems obsessed with the latest fashions in shops.. I think it´s so nice to go to second hand shops etc, and be a bit original and different by finding the things that you really like according to your own personal style, instead of just wearing and buying the same as everyone else in the same sort of shops and just being another sheep! More videos like this please!

I’m so happy you’re choosing to be more conscious about sustainability within fashion! I’ve been a subscriber for many years and remember you including pieces from Rokit in early hauls! During a trip to London (I was about 12) I came across a Rokit and was so excited to go in after seeing the pieces you had got in there. I fell in love with their outlook on sustainability within second hand purchasing and unique pieces. Long story short I actually moved to London and got myself a job at the Camden Rokit! So it’s lovely to see you going in there again! I’m really glad to see Fashion bloggers/RUclipsrs use their platform to talk about being more ethical!
Ps. Thank you for the many years of great content

Sam, it’s so nice to see you vintage shopping! I started my journey with vintage/charity shopping a long time ago, however two years ago I became truly obsessed with it and never looked back. It does take time to ‘learn’ how to look for things, but you gotta be patient! On warmer weekends, I love vintage shopping in Brighton (I live in London) as it’s a little cheaper, they have so many beautiful vintage shops and an amazing Oxfam next to Poundland. Also, waiste vintage in Brighton do 2 pairs of Levi’s for 30 pounds - it’s where I found my favourite pair! Ah, I just love it! x I love the crop top and the lilac jumper x

Most of my clothes are secondhand. It’s got to a point now that when people say they like my outfit, I look down and say, “this entire outfit is op-shopped.” I also hold on to clothes for years and have been going op shopping more frequently lately, just because my clothes don’t fit me anymore. It can be a cool way to challenge your style, like pairing things you haven’t tried before, wearing tops backwards, and using dresses as tops or skirts.

I like shopping vintage and used to a lot when I was younger, but I've noticed that they have gotten quite expensive. That is one of the reasons why I started getting everything brand new and good quality. I don't do primark and new look, but do prefer topshop, miss selfridges, zara etc. The second hand idea is great, but the prices 😣 I might as well get it brand new. Though I only shop when I need something and wear it for years so I guess it works out as I then give them to charity. Great vid Sam!!

I remember your videos from back in the days, where you always had vintage clothes. I remember you had a belt from Rokit, and back then I thought it was a brand, and I couldn't find it anywhere. Hey Sammi! Been watching you for years and I know you were just in NYC and had a great time! if you go back here are some great vintage shops
L train vintage (but particularly the ones in Brooklyn)
Monk vintage (very vintage if you get my drift might be cool to go find something unique for a photoshoot)
Buffalo Exchange (thrift store chain I like the one in manhattan best)
Crossroads Trading (the one in Williamsburg is so good they carry a lot of current and relevant brands even some designer pieces)
Beacons Closet (old standby again any of the Brooklyn locations are best in my opinion)
Vintage Twin (not my favorite I find it to be a bit overpriced in relation to the rest but if you are used to UK thrift prices you might like it also carrys a lot of cool menswear if you want to get Jason in on the fun)
What Comes Around Goes Around (so this is actually a designer consignment store type deal but so well curated, maybe you're next designer bag purchase can be secondhand too?)
TheRealReal (great website has a showroom in Soho same deal as WCAGA^^^)
cool well I hope this helps plan your next trip (and if any other viewers are going to NYC too)
    Much love from Brooklyn

I don;t know what it's like in the UK, but to me there is a big difference between vintage shopping and thrift (charity shops I think they are called over there). One is just an over-priced used clothing store, often consignment, the other is a place where people drop off their unwanted clothes and a portion goes to charity (the last is the second-hand sustainable way to shop).

I feel like resale in the US is more of a thing. There are so many here of different price ranges. My favorite are the ones where you can sell your clothes, get store credit and get new clothes. Buffalo Exchange is a chain that is really good but every city has a few local ones as well.

I have a few of those shops near where I live and although I think it's great to be more mindful on how we shop and waste I can't help but think these shops sell items that are overpriced. You should check out an event that happens once a month, I think, in Bethnal Green. A Catholic Church right next to Bethnal green St, the entire church is filled with vintage items and I believe you pay £5 for a certain amount of weight. I'll look for the name of it. you should do some thrifting in charity shops too. my favourite place to get second hand clothing in london is Crisis, they have such nice pieces there I feel like I always find at least one thing I want and you also help those who are homeless so win win! (i've only been to the finsbury park one, but they have such nice clothing and reasonable pricing - beyond retro pays mainstream prices for subpar clothes imo unless its on sale)
