    Thank you for this video. I recently moved from South Africa to the UK and am currently doing all the necessary academic requirements that need to be met in order to be accepted to study medicine. With being new here and not knowing how everything works and not having people to actually speak to has been quite difficult. This video has really helped me understand what type of work I can do and where I could do this.

    Can’t push the point of becoming a community first responder with the ambulance service enough. Fairly easy to get into, and turned out to be a vital part of my application and also gave me an introduction to history taking and then handover (current 4th year medical student at Southampton)

    Hey! Not sure you remember me but unfortunately I didn't get the grades to get into Medicine this time round at UCL or my insurance :(( I think I'm gonna have to now do biomed and potentially transfer or actually do post grad Med! Not giving up yet haha I still want to pursue this career so gonna make sure it works out!

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  5 лет назад +2

      I’m sorry to hear that. But as you’d know from my journey and many others is that it’s not the end of hope for getting into medicine.
      You can either look into degrees that offer entry into their medical degree or like you said complete the degree and apply as a graduate student.
      There’s a reason for why things work out the way they do 😊

    I am 14 years old, my school have told me to go and find work experience, I am struggling soo much to find a hospital that would allow me for my age

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  3 года назад

      Hi Shaan. 14 is early for work experience placements. The hospitals won’t take responsibility for having you on their grounds and the experience you gain will be too soon to talk about in your application etc. You should look into volunteering opportunities instead which will add as much value to your application as work experience in a hospital

    I have a overseas general secondary education certificate that equals GCSE grades (A*-C). My math grade is C and English is not comparable to GCSE because is studied as a second language. I’m going to do IELTS, GCSE in math, UCAT test and work experience. Do you think it will be enough to get ento medicine ??

    Hello , what about doing extra work experience while you’re in Medschool to have a better chance of getting into the speciality you want ?

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  5 лет назад +1

      Hi :)
      Sort of - it doesnt count as work experience at that stage. For speciality training emphasis is on: audits, publications, poster presentations in addition to working/taster weeks within the desired specialty. These are usually done during the FY1 and FY2 years rather than during medical school

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  4 года назад +1

      Some universities want a letter of attendance for your work experience placement as proof you’ve actually carried it out. Others will trust that you’re being honest as this is a fundamental characteristic of a doctor

      Hi. You’ll need to approach individual hospitals and look at their vacancies and make a job application

    Is volunteer work experience in london important for those who are international graduate and want to become a doctor in london? I am british citizen but studyig medicine in Turkey. I know requirements like ilets, plabs. But beyond that is it advantage to make volunteer plobations in london hospitals or work experience?
    Also, Thank you for your helpful videos.

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  5 лет назад

      Any work experience is sufficient, not just London. It’s about getting experience in the NHS. And experienced out of London will not affect your chances of getting training in London. Hope that helps x

    This may sound like a stupid question but once we do the work experience how do we prove we have done it? Do we get a statement or something from the hospital to put on our CV? Thanks😁

    • @DrEzgiOzcan

      Once you complete a placement you’ll need to get a certificate or letter of attendance - as some universities want proof

    Thank you so much doctor for this advice. How many hours do you need for volunteering + work experience

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  3 года назад

      There is no set hours as such. Often the longer the commitment the better it looks. Some universities do have work experience requirement which you can find on their admissions page

    I'm an IMG dr, soon I'm going to join nhs hopefully. Where do you suggest me to go for work experience and for how long those should be? In the meantime, while I was taking the tests for my GMC registration, I worked as an admin in a couple of GP surgeries, did note summarising, read coding and dealt with hospital letters and a lot more for nearly two years. Do these experiences count as work experience? Thanks in advance.

    • @DrEzgiOzcan
      @DrEzgiOzcan  4 года назад

      I’m really unsure of the specifics of work experience. But I don’t think it’ll be given too much weight. As it doesn’t involve working in a clinical setting as a medic
      The best thing to do is ask a hospital you want to apply for a job at

      Your university will have a volunteering department. They have lots of organisations they work with. UCL had a catalogue of things for us to choose from so that should be your first point of call.
      Secondly there are lots of societies in Med school. You can sign up to them and volunteer. When I was in university we there was a society that went into primary schools and did basic education (can’t remember what)
      So have a look around ☺️
