Great video guys, very informative and great camerawork too. I use to not be a huge fan of NCs, but after seeing a video of ex-Koenigsegg test driver called Robert Serwanski in his NC overtaking a Porsche 997.2 GT3RS around the Nurburgring TWICE, whilst lapping it in 7:58 (BTG time), I have been converted. Admittedly, that Porsche driver probably wasn't as capable as the Miata driver was. Robert's NC still had a stock engine with an ECU remap. That action-packed video on youtube is called 'Nürburgring Nordschleife BTG 07:58.07 with obstacles... Mazda MX-5 Miata NC 2,0', and it now has 516,000+ views. DEFINITELY well worth a watch. I often don't care about laptimes, but Robert Serwanski's more recent videos showed me how capable and predictable the NC chassis are. Thanks to the owner for showing his NC2 in this SlipAngle video!
Love that video you're talking about, by 'turningperformance'. It was a constant 'cat-and-mouse' game where the Porsche made gaps on the straights, but the Mazda driver would always close those gaps in the corners, purely because he stays on throttle for much longer, and his throttle/brake/steering inputs were smoother. In the video description of his more recent Nurburgring video, he wrote the full specsheet of his car - 245.40 R17 tyres, removed passenger seat+AC and he seamwelded the rear subframe and seamwelded the door-openings too. Interesting that he chose to not have an LSD in his car too.
Really entertaining to watch, and an awesome owner! The forged steel crankshaft + stiffer valve springs in the engines of NC2s and NC3s allow those cars to have a higher redline than the earlier NC1s I believe. What I like about the NCs are that you can get another cheap Mazda 2.3 or 2.5 engine to fit in without clearance issues (unlike the NDs), so that you even more torque down low. The ITB package called the Super 225 that BBR recently announced sounds epic on their youtube channel too!
Every time I see NC content I have to look them up again! Both fortunate and not that like all the rest of them they hold their value exceptionally well... imo a better looking rear end than the ND too

NC is BETTER than NB, but not as stiff and flexible vs S2000. Mainly due to S2000 having a "Xbone". NC has similar but doesn't go all the way to the front and rear sub frames. The 2006-2008 motors weren't as good as the 2009+ motors which got forged internals and stiffer valve springs, and a higher red line because of it. I found a salvaged 2013 with a low-mileage (18k) motor, and it revs easily to 8k.
@@chrisrobbins4984 yep understand that. Hopefully the rev limiter will protect against breakage. I'm just not used to running an engine at that speed for extended periods. There's turbo and Supercharger kits out there. Supercharger is now out of stock. Good Tuning is what it takes to make it not blow the engine. No internals upgrade needed
Nothing wrong with it I have one lol but they got better as the years went on between engine suspension and chassis revisions but all of them are cracking
@@christopherbazaka1564 right I'm just wondering if the NC1 has any drawbacks or major differences vs the NC2, or if it's minor things similar to the differences between early NAs and later NAs, NA vs NB, etc (things that are relatively easy to upgrade on the early models).
@@pleasedrivefaster873 biggest difference is the conrods are not as durable. Rev limit is set a bit lower. Even so they are reliable normally aspirated up to about as much as you can push out of them normally aspirated. Other than that its mainly cosmetic differences. This year we sold out all 40 spots to club members. We limit the event to 40 drivers so that seat time is maximized. And because we don't try and make a profit we can make it a good value. Great review. I’m missing a review of a GT86/FRS/BRZ with bolt ons! When is that due?
I have a similarly modded nc and it's really an amazing car. I need to get it to a track but I know it would rip. Great video!
It really is!
Nice video. I love my NC, (who cares if it's the most unloved miata) because I'm having fun! Nothing like having someone else jump in your car and show you how to properly hoon it!
My 2012 is still for sale, Quinn ;)
Did you send me the specs? Lol I can't remember
The Slip Angle 2012 with 96xxx miles. Factory limited slip, Stormy Blue Mica paint with tan interior and top. Factory HID’s. It has Tokico shocks and FlyinMiata lowering springs and sway bars. It has a lot maintenance history paperwork , too. It is getting detailed today. I am not remotely local, but I like road trips. 10k
Great video! Coming from an NB2 owner I really think I would love to try an NC2 in the future.
Agree, NC2 or greater. Had 1-3 and 2 (09-11 w/out DSC) is a great value proposition for this setting. And great point about too much grip (rebound) with the type of car.
Great video on a lot of levels.
Great driving and a very knowledgeable guy too.
Thanks 👍
Huge respect for the owner damn
I didn’t know you could get engine performance out of a NC. Need more info on mods done.
A full exhaust and tune gives them a decent bump
The Slip Angle How’s that Indian running?
My 2006 NC1 has a refreshed low-mileage 2013 2.0L (Jesse Prather Motorsports-built) with stock block and head, cams, intake, and exhaust, and tuned for E85 - 190whp @7700, and still making power at that point (set the rev-limiter at 7800 for longevity, but can easily go to 8k).More here: www.good-win-racing.com/mazda/miata/gallerycar/11.html#gallery-top
There's turbo and Supercharger kits out there. Supercharger is now out of stock. Good Tuning is what it takes to make it not blow the engine. No internals upgrade needed
I'd love to know exactly what exhaust set up he has. It sounds amazing!
I wonder what coilovers he got on? Ohlins or meisterr?
What's wrong with the NC1? I like the body style more, are there any major downsides?
Nothing wrong with it I have one lol but they got better as the years went on between engine suspension and chassis revisions but all of them are cracking
pricier than the older models but theyre good if you can afford it
@@christopherbazaka1564 right I'm just wondering if the NC1 has any drawbacks or major differences vs the NC2, or if it's minor things similar to the differences between early NAs and later NAs, NA vs NB, etc (things that are relatively easy to upgrade on the early models).
@@pleasedrivefaster873 biggest difference is the conrods are not as durable. Rev limit is set a bit lower. Even so they are reliable normally aspirated up to about as much as you can push out of them normally aspirated. Other than that its mainly cosmetic differences. And jf you blow it up the 2.5 is an economical upgrade. My nc1 has been bulletproof so far with plenty of rev limit bouncing. 180km on it and ive put 70km of those.
@@robmcilroy1894 thanks for giving a real answer
I wish I knew his suspension setup
I like how the driver is nervous while Quinn is completely in his element and chewing gum
Riding shotgun on track is a much more nerve-racking/exhilarating experience.
NC terribly underrated and misrepresented. Most have never driven it.
Let's see a project NCeeDos! Upset the Miata family
What a nice thing!
Dropping in a Ford Fusion motor is the final "Bolt On"
Individual throttle bodies. The video on youtube called 'BBR Super 225 NC' shows how angry ITBs sound with the stock 2.0 engine.
In before the NC boiz get upset that it doesn't have the aluminum MOROSO coolant tank
As a NC owner, that’s the first thing I noticed!
Why would that be so important? Does the car have overheating issues?
@@jdroofcleanpw the tanks tend to crack and burst as they age. Buying a new one is fine but the 'in' thing is to buy an aluminum one
@@Dr.Duck22 Yeah, the "in thing" is wasting a lot of money. those metal tanks are so overpriced for what they are, and it all started when people started freaking out about the OEM plastic. This caused the manufacturers of the metal tanks to jack the price up. i can buy 3-4 plastic tanks for the price of one metal one and they will last me longer than the engine will.
I replaced with a OEM mazda tank from the factory, The MOROSO or DaveFab can also crack or leak. Nothing is perfect.
Post up a list of the mods and setup (Ride height, Alignment specs etc.) please.
This is not our car. The owner asked us to do an impression while we were at the track.
Finally an nc!!
I might have missed it but do they state what suspension setup this has? (Coilovers, shocks/springs, chassis reinforcement, sway bars etc)
when are these track events at Lime Rock? somewhat local and would love to hangout and drive awesome NC BTW
That was the Nutmeg Miata Day that they run once a year there. They advertise for the event on Miata.net
This year we sold out all 40 spots to club members. We limit the event to 40 drivers so that seat time is maximized. And because we don't try and make a profit we can make it a good value. Lime Rock also runs several day each year that are open to the public. I think we have a few members that pay dues and this is the only event they do all year 😂
Enjoyed the video and review. Cheers
You really did a number on those tires
Can anyone provide a list of the mods in this car?
Great review. I am surprised the track insurance companies allow being on track with no helmets!
It's the way to do it. We can a track day at Toronto Motorsports Park and it was so relaxed that it made for one of the best track day experiences ever.
I just got my first Miata Nc 2007 with 12k miles....6 speed manual. Needs tires and I'm thinking RE-71R's or Continental Extreme Contact Sport.
Any specifics on the customizations made?
Where did he get that yellow tachometer?
Probably a Revlimiter gauge set
The Slip Angle Thanks ..nice of you to reply. Appreciate it.
Did they say what coilovers were on it?
you drove the snot out of that dude's NC. Nice. now Im shopping these, i need one lol. The guy had a really good time too haha
I kinda want one too lol
I kinda had mine delivered this morning at 10:05 AM by Carvana with 37K on the clock, hard top.
@@edwardschmitt5710 nice! Carvana is a good service. My mother just used it. Make sure to test it well in your grace week. They’ll fix or trade the car out no problem and its so seamless haha.
@@SicSemperBeats It came with two new scratches and they are already scheduling me to fix them.
@@edwardschmitt5710 NICE! Cant beat carvana. The little extra they charge (some cars arent even high tbh) is 100% percent worth it. Glad you got it
Is there a place where we can see the full specs on this car ? All the changes ?
I don't care what anybody says the NC is a damn good looking car especially with its little wide body fenders that Dodge decided to steal lol. There's a thought for everybody. And especially the back of an NC it looks really good
Agreed
Silly questions, but why are the hood vents closed?
Lol his face as Quinn drifts his car around turns at full throttle 🤣
man this things is sexy! NC´s are growing on me by the day haha
Can I ask you what do you think of the NC in relation to the S2K talking about general performance and chassis\handling?
What kind of coilovers does it have?!
