I read many years ago that Saint Patrick was from Wales and he was captured by raiders who sold him into Slavery in Ireland . After he earned his liberty, he went to study in Italy to become a Priest , returning to Ireland to teach the Irish about Christ and he is ( apparently ) buried in Downpatrick in County Down !
Saint Patrick was a Bishop so his colour would have been red, as in the red cross of Saint Patrick which is on the union flag, also I have seen several statues of the saint which depicts him wearing red. Just a bit of useless information from me. lol!
