I lived in Novato and KFRC was our go to station on our little transistor radios. I still have the album that was put out by KFRC with the DJs on the inside cover.
The best DJ ever was Dr. Donald D Rose! I always listen to him every weekday mornings while getting ready for school. He was hilarious and remember him getting suspended several times for his silly sex jokes. One of them was for the song "Stuck in the Middle with You" by Steelers Wheel. Let's just say u can imagine what he said, and till this day I still laugh out loud. This station was a big part of my life in my teen years with all those great 70s songs
KYA in the '60s gave us a broad musical menu, mixing in R&B/soul, country, folk, novelty--you name it--hosted by easygoing DJs. As tuneful and broadening as KYA was, KFRC was a guilty pleasure, as was the Drake-Chenault format, before FM took over. Also, tip o' the hat to KEWB, KLIV, KLOK, KKIS.

You could hear KFRC clear as a bell in many of the Central Valley markets like Sacramento, Stockton, etc. KYA was tough to pull in. Also the days of Gene Nelson were gone by the time Don Rose came to the Bay and KYA was never a big competitor in the coveted morning time slot. Though throughout the daytime and nights KYA had some great jocks.
miss the CHR Giant KFRC especially in the mid to late 70's..Drake's Jingles and the 610 air personalities really brought it...I think they were Billboard Station of the Year recipients at least 3 times..my favorites were Dr Don, Rick Shaw, Shanna & Eric Chase to name a few.... favorite kfrc jingle was Karen Carpenter singing the call letters....
I remember these jingle as a kid with my parents driving on the bay bridge at San Francisco and seeing KFRC radio red and white stripes tower on the hills.They play these jingle and play stevie wonder song.Great memories.
A good portion of these jingle bumpers were still used through the 90's reincarnation of KFRC which showers my 43 year old self with much nostalgia. I play them often to relive memories of being a teenager, parents who were still young and full of life that had the pleasure listening to this great music the first time around, and grandparents still being alive. It also brings back memories of the fantastic pets I had at that time, may they all R.I.P.

I used to listen to KFRC in the 60s when I was a kid. We lived in East Palo Alto, CA.

The jingles you hear beginning at around 4:10 were aired in 1971.
I worked at KPFA across the Bay '67-'68 and remember many of these jingles. KFRC was my favorite AM music station.

I remember seeing a billboard on I-5 there in Stockton Ca. saying
Elvis is not dead till KFRC says so.

So sad the call letters of the iconic 60s and 70s stations mean nothing today.
