@@j22563 I work in construction and rarely see paper/cardboard walls outside of the cheapest apartments and mobile homes. Wood framing and drywall are the standard and there's a few reasons for that:
1. It's much cheaper to build, like a fraction of the cost, especially in areas with more expensive labor costs. That can be a major benefit since it means with the savings you'll have money left over to remodel the house down the road or just make it easier to buy/build.
2. It's much easier to remodel. There's a reason why you can find 100+ year old farm homes in America that look nearly new but when you look at older homes in parts of Europe and Latin America you'll see they've barely changed in decades and the remodels look crappier. Like if you want to add an outlet or switch chances are you'll end up having to run wiremold (that square surface mounted conduit) all over the place.
3. Wood framing is much more earthquake resistant, a major concern for anyone on the west coast.
4. it's not as storm resistant as you'd think. In the event of a flood you'll have all the same issues as a "stick built" home: it will mold the same, it gets just as flooded as any other home not built on a higher elevation, and you'll need to make all the same repairs like replacing carpet and potentially electrical wiring/devices. In the event of a tornado or hurricane unless you've got rebar reinforced concrete your cinder block home is going to sustain a similar amount of damage and because it's so much more expensive to repair/rebuild even if more of the home is left its going to cost the same or even more to repair/replace since cinder blocks arent as tough as you'd think when it comes to stuff like category 4 hurricane. At a minimum if your wood framed neighbors are getting damage to their homes your siding, shingles, and roof are likely to get wrecked the same as theirs and anything that bad is likely to fuck up your walls too.
5. Related to #2 it's easier to future proof and to update. As technology gets better you can more easily get better insulation sprayed in, new wire and ethernet cables run, stuff like that. It's a lot harder and more expensive to do with cinderblock homes. This along with #2 are why you find so many concrete homes in dirt poor areas: the labor is cheaper so the more labor intensive construction isnt that big of an impact and it's a large reason why you see a fraction of the concrete homes once you cross from Mexico into the US.
6. Drywall can be pretty strong and easy to fix. It's mainly just the cheaper, thinner drywall that breaks easily; I'm a moderately fit 185cm 85kg dude and i've broken a wrist bone punching drywall before, but it was the thicker kind. You can get drywall as thin as 1/4in or 6mm but unless you're cheap you'll usually find 1/2in to 5/8in or around 13mm to 16mm.
That said there is a move towards new forms of cinderblock homes in the US that mitigate many of those negatives so we may see more cinderblock homes in the US. Faswall is one such company that makes a new kind of cinderblock that’s easier to work with, more environmentally friendly, and it’s easier to remodel called Insulated Concrete Forms or ICF.
