Hi Daniel, coming from a DSLR, I am considering migrating over to mirror-less; Specifically gunnin' for the Canon R6. My question is: Will the R6 paired with the Canon's 600Ex II Speed-lite fire in near pitch black condition *without* the red light assist beam from the camera body it-self ? I've been reading up on several discords, and most people I come across mention that because it is mirror-less, the flash unit will *not* fire without the red light beam assist. By turning off simulation, is there a work around where I can get the R6 to "behave" like a DSLR? For my 80D, the red light beam assist (from the flash unit) is not distracting at all. I wonder if the R6 + Speed-lite works differently than conventional DSLR? Care to expand?
You can fire your flash without the red assist beam. I almost exclusively have it turned off. I have a video dedicated to turning the red assist beam off as well. After you turn off the simulated exposure it is very good as long as the subject or AF point has even the smallest amount of contrast there.
