I am Lower Elwha and Makah, raised on Puyallup land, but I came home for this celebration. Truly one of the most beautiful events of my life! I wish my grandmother could’ve been their to join in on the celebration!
@blissfulstate77 - I don't know why RUclips keeps auto-deleting your comment, but I appreciate the information! For those that won't see the comment, it says "It's a great experience to go to Neah Bay and visit the Makah people. There is a festival called "Makah" days in August, a good way to meet the original people of the land." It says something after that, but it's cut off, and RUclips deleted the comment. Sorry!
They deleted the comment because they're forcing their politics on a treasured way of life as well as a sustainable fisheries management system that NEVER threatened homelands and creatures. RACIST WHITE SUPREMACY at its worst.
Shame on you for not knowing who we are and where we come from. We were the first and only people here, this is our way of life. It’s your people that have ruined everything…..!
Protections against whaling exist because Europeans over-hunted them and lowered their populations. If you respect whales, you may be able to see the immense respect every whale that is hunted is given by the Makah. They would usually only bring in one or two a hunting season, not the extreme amount that the industrialized Europeans hunted.
