*Update April 4th, 2019* To clarify as Musashi pointed out, the original Amazon description of the M30 2.4g did, in fact, include the Bluetooth logo and described the same Bluetooth functionality of the regular M30. This has finally been corrected to not include the misleading Bluetooth description!
What you don't understand is that 8bitdo shows the 2.4G version on the analogue website because there was complaint about the fact that bluetooth have more lag than 2.4G. If you want a ZERO LAG experience the 2.4G is highly recommended over the bluetooth one. THAT IS A FACT.
@@TheXev You can read the FAQ of the Analogue mega sg, it says : "Does 8BitDo's M30 wireless controller have any lag? No - we worked very hard to make sure that the wireless controller does not have any lag -- it operates even better than a bluetooth controller (2.4g)." Here : support.analogue.co/hc/en-us/articles/360018215031-Mega-Sg-FAQ
That was also what I thought, but turns out the M30 2.4g (non-bluetooth) can not keep a steady connection to its included dongle. It constantly misses buttons presses or thinks that I'm still holding a button, when I've already released it. Will return it for the bluetooth one which should be as reliable as the other 8bitdo controllers.
@@leolobato To be honest i don't have the M30 2.4G, but i ordered one for the mega sg, but i have another 2.4G megadrive controller, that is the krikzz one, the joyzz, and i have absolutely no interference with it, it works perfectly, but it's expensive, if you have the money for it, i recommend it !!
@@zizarami3270to be fair, I've emailed 8bitdo right after writing that comment and they replied 5 minutes later with a beta firmware I'm installing now. At least their customer support is always top notch.
They were always like that(2.4gz) on the Analogue website. Both are M30,the recently announced one is Bluetooth. They should have clarified that however.
The only thing Analogue is guilty of is not updating their web page since creating it. At the time that the console and controller were announced back in August (IIRC), the 2.4G version was the only one that existed, so simply having the name “M30“ made sense. The Bluetooth version was only announced last month. Personally, when I saw that a Bluetooth version was being made available ahead of the Mega SG’s launch, I canceled my pre-orders for the 2.4G versions and pre-ordered the Bluetooth versions. Having said that, the real question that has to be asked is why 8BitDo waited until the last minute to announce and release the Bluetooth version?
And since I only heard about the M30 via the Bluetooth version news, I assumed that was the version on Analogue's website when I finally got around to pre-ordering my Mega SG. I wasn't one of the people who pre-ordered these all the way back in Aug 2018 (end of Jan 2019 when I preordered mine). I just wish Analogue would update their website so people know what they are getting and also show them the Bluetooth option. I should have ordered via 8bitdo's website, but I had wrongly assumed that Analogue had an Amazon referral link. I was hoping they'd get an additional kickback by me using their link.
Yeah, the original Amazon description was even worse because it featured the Bluetooth logo for the 2.4g version, thankfully they fixed that. I wish the 2.4g version had a clearer name like the SF30 Bluetooth does.
Not sure if you still have it, but does that genesis receiver work with any other controllers or its limited to the 8bitdo family? I'm planing on buying an 8bitdo receiver but its 20 by itself I wouldn't mind the extra 5 for that controller if I could use the receiver with maybe my wiiu pro controller or an xbox 360 controller.
The M30 2.4g is non-Bluetooth (regardless of what the Amazon page says) and comes with a receiver that only works for the controller it came with. The M30 (Bluetooth) comes with no receiver and you need to purchase the Bluetooth receiver for it separately. That receiver should allow all 8BitDo Bluetooth controllers to function with it. I have the SNES version and I was able to flash new firmware onto it that allows all 8BitDo controllers to work with it. The Genesis version receiver should have that functionality directly out of the box. The M30 Bluetooth has functionality that allows it to work with the Nintendo Switch, and no other console as far as I know (PS4 I think works with a different USB dongle you must purchase). The added benefit of the SNES Bluetooth adapter is you can use it as a Bluetooth adapter on your PC if it lacks Bluetooth. The Genesis Bluetooth adapter should be the same. I am 100% sure only the 8BitDo family is supported on these dongles, the firmware notes state as much with the exception of the PS4 controller. I think the adapters may allow PS4 controller support on Nintendo Switch.. its confusing.. they have several different dongles. You can research their product catalog and figure out what best suits your needs.
It can still be plugged in and used on PC via cable, otherwise return it for the Bluetooth one if you really need it (if you can return it). 8bitdo's newer controllers are clearly labeled to avoid this problem.. so bad they won't go back and rebrand these ones.
@@TheXev Well, the 2.4g version is cheaper and is supposed to be more responsive. But I suspect that since the shoulder buttons are mapped to C & Z when connected to Gen/MD that they will lose their functionality when connected this way to PC and just behave as double C & Z buttons.
@@TheXev I got the Mayflash adapter today. It works but, as I suspected, the shoulder buttons lose functionality and just become extra C & Z buttons, even in Xinput mode. Makes no sense tough, since it's recognized as a XB360 device in Xinput mode, and even the gamepad is recognized as XB360 when connected via USB. Disappointing.
The 2.4Ghz should offer lower input latency than Bluetooth, along with the cheaper price. $50 for 2, instead of $100 for 2 $30 BT M30s and 2 $20 BT retro receivers. The trouble though is that I am getting connection problems with both. They have trouble syncing and when they do it will go from working fine to becoming unresponsive and then moving on its own for several seconds. They are basically useless for gaming.
2.4Ghz is a common frequency for house hold devices. Wireless home phones use them, WiFi uses them, and microwaves disrupt that spectrum. I'd imagine microwaves are the number one reason these would stop working.
Yeah, we have 2.4Ghz WiFi. The thing is though that I use my GameCube WaveBirds all the time, often 4 at one time and they are flawless. Not a single drop or lag issue ever, but the M30 is a disaster right from the start, and from 6 inches away from the receiver. I also tried unplugging my 2.4Ghz WiFi, and cordless phones just for the hell of it and there was no improvement. I thought maybe I have a defective controller, but to have two defective controllers at once seems unlikely. I think I'm going to give up on the 2.4Ghz model and just get the Bluetooth receiver and use a SNES30 pad with it.
I pre-ordered via Amazon Feb 2nd, but used the link on Analogue's website. It is Analogue's link that I have the most issue with since the pic and description appear to be for the regular M30 but links to the M30 2.4g. I did tweet this video at Analogue in hopes they will see it and update their website.
I can only get the M30 2.4g to work wired on PC wired. I would not work wired on Switch. I believe you need to have the M30 Bluetooth to have it work on the Switch wired or wirelessly.
Thanks for your video. I also ordered the 2.4g variant without realizing it didn't feature Bluetooth and therefore wouldn't be usable with other devices. It hasn't arrived yet, but I think I'll keep it as a dedicated controller for the Mega Sg when it arrives, and possibly get the Bluetooth one down the road for other devices. By the way, the product description on Amazon (or at least Amazon Canada) is incorrect as of now. It lists all the features of the Bluetooth model, including Bluetooth connectivity and compatibility with other devices, on the 2.4g model's product page. I emailed 8BitDo to let them know about that issue and how it misled me into ordering the incorrect controller.

At the time this video was made, Amazon had incorrect listings for the specs of these controllers. I made this video to point out what was wrong. Amazon corrected the problem 2 days after I released this video.
Is there a way to play m30 2.4g on macOS ? coz I just bought this one instead m30 accidentally, and now I can't play even using usb cable :( Should I install windows on my MacBook, or use vm ? Any help appreciated

Firmware up to date. It just stopped working. First controller of 8bitdo I actually loved (i have an sn30 pro and to me it's the worst d pad i have ever used).. and this happens. Now i know why the creator of openemu calls it 8shitdo.
Wow, I still haven't purchased the Bluetooth version yet. I am sorry to hear that. I hope this isn't a wide spread issue. Are you able to still return it?
This happened so long ago. They corrected the problem after only a few days, but many people like myself had already ordered. 8-BitDo does a better job now in naming their newer products to show the difference.
As I have stated in several comments and the video description, the Amazon listing incorrectly listed the M30 2.4G as a Bluetooth device before correcting the issue, and the picture of the 2.4G version is still that of the regular M30. If Analogue would have followed their own naming scheme for the rest of their products (having an M30, and an M30 Bluetooth as they did with the SF40) the confusion cause *AT THE TIME THIS VIDEO WAS CREATED OVER A YEAR AGO* could have been avoided. It no longer applies today. The Amazon listing was corrected about a week after this video went live and no longer list the M30 2.4G as Bluetooth. I was paying attention and the problem was resolved as a result. I don't even get why 8Bitdo even bother to make a 2.4ghz version of any controller, bluetooth just works better and there are less confusion. Now by making the 2.4g version and a bluetooth one, consumer will get confused and could easily get the wrong one when they really want the other one simply cause they didn't do their research which they shouldn't had to.
There was actually a demand for the 2.4GHz version, as it is supposed to have less lag and also cost less. The Amazon description was finally updated to remove the Bluetooth logo on the 2.4G, so at least the description is accurate now.
I do not agree. I could see it being uncomfortable for people with larger hands, but I had no cramping issues while playing with it. I am going to try the RetroBit controllers when those become available.
@@TheXev they tried replicating the Saturn style but then added the Genesis style backing (where it dips in the middle horizontally) and it makes no sense.
