According to what I've read, Santa's line about picking up the toys was added AFTER the original broadcast, because of complaints received from viewers.
There's a weird sequel Rudolph movie that was entirely Cgi. I believe it was straight to dvd, but Cornelius actually ran a peppermint mine in the movie. I remember it really confusing me as a kid because of the scene of him finding the peppermint in the original Rudolph being cut out of the version I grew up with.
Here are my thoughts on the special when it aired on NBC: Cons: -The scene where Rudolph leaves Hermy and Ucon Cornelius removes the last 5-10 seconds before cutting to Sam the snowman. -The timing of the commercial breaks. Most of them come during the middle of scenes that aren't finished, such as the reindeer training and during the end of the snow monsters' defeat scenes. Pros: -The picture quality, music, and audio was great! -There wasn't a scene I noticed that was cut out entirely (particularly when Ucon discovered peppermint).
I noticed during the 60th anniversary NBC airing that they edited part of a scene where Yukon Cornelius was yelling at his dogs. He would say "Mush" twice but cut out the really loud "MUSH!" at the end, and there was a crossfade. Maybe they thought he was being too mean!
So informative, thank you. I grew up with Rankin Bass, many of their shows I watched first run, and then every year following. Didn't know about the collection blu-ray, thanks for the tip.
There were some older CBS broadcasts that edit out smaller scenes (i.e., Sam imitating Donner when the latter tells his mate "NO! This is MAN'S work.", Yukon lecturing his "sled dogs" to "un-mush" etc.). In addition some CBS broadcasts in the 1970s-1980s featured the 1968 Rankin Bass logo which has since been replaced around the 1990s by the logos of whomever owned the rights depending on the era of airing (airings occuring for most of the 2000s for example would have the 2002 Classic Media logo)
What my ideal version of the movie would be: 1. The 4K Cut 2. Fame & Fortune Co-Exists With We’re A Couple Of Misfits 3. To blend Fame & Fortune back in, we have a brand new scene added in after they escape on the iceberg. Brand new with stop motion workers from rankin bass returning, and the restored puppet of Rudolph returning, with newly built 1:1 replicas of Hermie, Ucon and everything else in the scene. The scene starts with Ucon explaining to Rudolph & Hermie what fam and fortune is, and then a new Fame and fortune sequence that has Ucon singing as well and it takes place on the iceberg. Don’t question Ucon’s vocals. 4. We’re a couple of misfits audio is artificially extended to include the original fame and fortune footage. 5. The sleigh leaves Christmas town, followed by the original credits in full color with the text removed from the boxes. Then it cuts to the misfit toys island, and not only do they notice Rudolph’s light, but a distant version of the 1965 merry Christmas line. The rest of the movie is the normal 4K cut, with the 1965 credits and the original ending.
It’s funny you say how Fame and Fortune would be a song better suited for Yukon, because in the live musical adaptation, right after We’re a Couple of Misfits and meeting Yukon, they all sing Fame and Fortune together!
Yeah. The original sounds like he's joyously wishing you a merry Christmas, while the retake makes it sound like he's haunting the North Pole workshop.
I think there was some explanation on the new 2024 version for why Dolly was on the Island of Misfit toys. It went something like, We have dolls that--- and dolls that---. We don't need a doll that---. Did anyone catch that? Apparently, in the original, the reason she was on the island wasn't given. But the producer or writer said later that she had psychological problems due to being abandoned by her owner. I'm discussing on Facebook and wanted to find out the new reason.
I wish I had downloaded the video you posted last year. I didn't that the copyright holder would have a problem with it. The video added interest to the show.
I did re-upload the previous version on Internet Archive. You can watch it here: archive.org/details/update-2-all-television-changes-to-rudolph-the-red-nosed-reindeer-1964
I've been looking for this for a while! Do you think you could reupload the original one as unlisted? The very first one without talking, to be specific - I find the points get across better in that version.
Hey lane I think the claim that rankin bass owning a full colour version of the old ending might be true because in the ending the scene where the elf is waving to Rudolph it looks identical to the old version
they also remove the northern lights in the background -- totally ruins the scene (which I always found very spooky -- but, it all works out in the end for Rudolph).
17:57 Wait Rudolph can be streamed now? I tried last year on Hulu's Freeform channel and it aired some random Christmas movie in the timeslot Rudolph was supposed to be.
Would you ever do videos like this for other Rankin/Bass specials like the year without a Santa Claus or Santa Claus is coming to town? I have no idea if there’s as many revisions or changes but I’m definitely curious.
Thanks for asking. I plan on doing one for Frosty the Snowman, and that'll be it. Not sure about the others though since they don't have any notable changes besides removing scenes or shortening songs.
Unfortunately, I don't. But a similar version can be found on the extremely rare 1988 VHS from Trans-Atlantic Video. I once uploaded a full rip of the tape for a limited time, but you can still find mirrors of it on Internet Archive.
I don’t know if you remember but, there was a video on RUclips talking about how the 2005 broadcast is awful, including a re-edited version of the special I’m trying to find it but can’t at all, do you think it was taken down? Great video btw! Sucks you had to pixelate it, also checked out the video on the 88 VHS and all the home releases :3
Is it ok if I upload the uncensored version on my channel ill give you full credit and I'll only upload it if i get permission from you and if not its fine
Thank you for asking. As much as I would love to give you the okay, I fear that RUclips would instantly block the uncensored video if someone were to re-upload it.
Uncensored Version:

Thx. best way to watch this video imo
Why don’t you just overlay an image on top of the video

They have already covered it ^^
this had like 20 versions lol
During the NBC airing at the end, i absolutely lost my mind during the peppermint mine scene

I want NBC and Freeform to use the superior 2022 4K print of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” for the Christmas season next year!

We got it
The stage production based of the cartoon made up for this by including both the duet version of Misfits and Fame and Fortune.
Someone give this guy a promotion.
Good video! Rudolph is my favorite holiday special of all-time, and I love watching it live on tv every year!
Who knew it would be so hard for TV networks to air a show without errors for 60 years
I would LOVE to see the original credits with the elf throwing packages off the sleigh, but in color!
It’s funny you say how Fame and Fortune would be a song better suited for Yukon, because in the live musical adaptation, right after We’re a Couple of Misfits and meeting Yukon, they all sing Fame and Fortune together!
15:13 Luckily, I already have a blu ray version of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer with Yukon finding a peppermint.
Happy 60th Anniversary Rudolph
i have autisum as well but i agreee that retake from santa thare sounds vary creepy
Yeah. The original sounds like he's joyously wishing you a merry Christmas, while the retake makes it sound like he's haunting the North Pole workshop.
I watched the NBC version last night.
Unlike Freeform it has the closing credits intact.
The song “Fame and Fortune” was the one I heard when I saw it growing up.
I think there was some explanation on the new 2024 version for why Dolly was on the Island of Misfit toys. It went something like, We have dolls that--- and dolls that---. They miss spell Billie Mae Richards name on purpose because they didn't want to let you know Rudolph voice was coming from a girls voice

@@KingLaneCreationsthank you so much, dude!
The special returned to its original network NBC recently
There is one cut scene in the nbc version they cut the scene where Rudolph the leaving the island by himself and the bumble roars in the background.
I've been looking for this for a while! Do you think you could reupload the original one as unlisted? The very first one without talking, to be specific - I find the points get across better in that version.
Unfortunately, I don't think reuploading the original is possible without it getting copyright blocked.
I hated the CBS version.
It sounded like a worn out VHS tape and I blame Classic Media for that!
Hey lane I think the claim that rankin bass owning a full colour version of the old ending might be true because in the ending the scene where the elf is waving to Rudolph it looks identical to the old version
I looked at it after I recorded on NBC.
I missed the broadcast from NBC 2024
It will be on NBC again on the 12th
@ManAndDogFan Going out to see Kraven
Me too…
@@ManAndDogFan someone should record
@@hectormanuel8360 I’m recording it on DVR. Maybe I’ll upload some of it to RUclips
I watched the airing last night (12/12). Thought there were too many commercials and they were at weird times, breaking up the story line.
Freeform's 2024 airing is the same as the one on NBC right now.
So now I know why they reused Rudolph and Santa's audio clips as heard at 6:53.
You forgot to mention Freeform cuts Bumble’s roar when Rudolph leaves the Island of Misfit toys and NBC does that too
they also remove the northern lights in the background -- totally ruins the scene (which I always found very spooky -- but, it all works out in the end for Rudolph).

Alternate Santa
17:57 Wait Rudolph can be streamed now? I tried last year on Hulu's Freeform channel and it aired some random Christmas movie in the timeslot Rudolph was supposed to be.
From what I heard, NBCUniversal refuses to let Rudolph air on streaming platforms.

@ interesting, that’ll be cool to watch the frosty video. It’s cool to know that there is any changes at all for those movies. Thanks for the response
8:25: Hey! So am I!!!!
The island of misfit toys did get a film many years later
8:56 do you know where I can find this copy of the film?
Unfortunately, I don't. But a similar version can be found on the extremely rare 1988 VHS from Trans-Atlantic Video. I once uploaded a full rip of the tape for a limited time, but you can still find mirrors of it on Internet Archive.
Where did you find the public domain cartoons with the 1965 print of Rudolph?
What about the version you can buy on RUclips? Which release of Rudolph is that one?
I was here at the 26 minute mark.
I don’t know if you remember but, there was a video on RUclips talking about how the 2005 broadcast is awful, including a re-edited version of the special
I’m trying to find it but can’t at all, do you think it was taken down?

I definitely know what you're talking about, I've seen it as well. It's very unfortunate that it got taken down.
@ It also had the 2005 version of F&F you were talking about, which is just--so weird, one of the strangest decisions I’ve seen
Is it ok if I upload the uncensored version on my channel ill give you full credit and I'll only upload it if i get permission from you and if not its fine
Thank you for asking. As much as I would love to give you the okay, I fear that RUclips would instantly block the uncensored video if someone were to re-upload it.
Do rudolph the red-nosed reindeer have green color but with all the scenes of the movie pixilated
I like Rudolph
I thought rudolph was public domain
Nope. Still copyrighted.
Y is it pixelated?
Refresh your RUclips
To prevent the video from getting a copyright unfortunately :/
Universal being strict and overprotective with copyright
