Delta Green devs have stated that it works less well with minis and maps than most games. Theres a new gamemaster day stream where shane ivey states it as "being more of a bug than a feature". Barring certain scenarios like Ex Oblivion its usually done more theatre of the mind style with bulletpoints on an area map being your location.
Yeah I've noticed this too. I'm watching this a year or so after running LTL for a second time. My first time, I don't think I used a map, or if I did it was a real rough improvised sketch of the cabin, and nothing else. For my second time, I have a much more concrete image in my head of the spaces, including the apartment, but that also might have been theater of the mind. I remember definitely drawing a multi floor map for the cabin and surrounding space (shack, tank, etc.)
I ran this in 2018 after I got the book. I ran it RAW from the book and the simplicity threw me for a loop, I was left thinking.... That's it? No climax? No conflict? My inexperience made me feel like I did something wrong. My one player listened to Marlene's story then dumped the gasoline in and had himself a barbeque. That was it. I should have added more stuff to make it interesting, but as a new Keeper I didn't know what else to do.
No worries. We've all been there (and probably will again). I learned all my tricks the hard way. Hopefully you player still had fun. Also, many of the suggestions I give were based on my running it and thinking afterward, "How could I have done that better?"
I ran this for my players as my first Delta Green game, everyone was new and we had a blast… literally, they basically blew up an acre of forest trying to kill the thing that was Marlene. It was pretty metal, though one of the players saw the spirit fly off at the end, to be continued another time. They turned on all the gas in the cabin, after they’d already poured gasoline all into the septic tank (which I decided would be full of methane as well, makes sense to me), and during the bloody battle with the creature, they sparked it with a gunshot off the rim of the septic tank and the gasoline ignited, which ignited the methane, which ignited the pipes and the gas inside the cabin, and the whole damn thing went up! I took your advice on putting future adventures in files inside the cabin, and you’re right, it worked great, we moved on to doing Operation Fulminate: The Sentinels of Twilight, and now we’re making our way through the A Night at the Opera collection… it’s been a hot minute since we played, as I’ve been running other games and we’ve had other commitments, but I’m keen to pick it back up again
My suggestion would be turning the septic tank into a bomb shelter he converted into a ritual chamber. That he then fled after discovering the entity. The reason it hasn't left is due to arcane wards etched into the threshold.
Spoilers: I've GM:ed this scenario two times. The first time the characters were part of "The Cowboys" faction of Delta Green. They listened to the creature for a while, realized it was hiding something and then tried to burn it. It jumped out of the tank, fought them for a while and then tried to flee in the direction of a store they had passed on the way to the cabin. The PCs double timed it in a car towards the cabin and managed to set up an ambush and then "killed" it. Afterwards they rigged the electrical system to cause the fire to burn down. Later in the campaign they got to play another scenario where the creature had managed to convince people in a town the help it find victims to eat. The Second time went allot smoother for the characters. They were part of the Program this time. They seemed convinced that the "zombie" still retained the mind of Marlene so they lend her one of their jackets to cover her up. She then tried to escape when she realize they weren't going to let her go, but she failed miserably several times. In the end they handed her over to The Program which started to perform experiments on her (whithout the PCs knowledge).
Nice review. Just to clarify re the Agents Handbook and the Handlers Guide - the Agents Handbook contains the full rules and more character background options (as compared to the 'Need to Know' quickstart set which contains this scenario). The Handlers Guide is a combination 'bestiary' (mythos entity stats) setting/lore book (all the background lore/history of Delta Green's take on how the Unnatural Lovecraftian mythos has shaped and continues to shape the world) and guide to 'Magic' (called 'HyperGeometry here) and how magical rituals or artifacts can both be deployed against PCs and what happens when PCs try to use use/them. You could probably get by on the base rules in 'Need to Know' if you wanted to, and certainly could do a lot more with the Agents Handbook and your own imagination. Of course I'd recommend getting the Handlers Guide as well. The 'lore' of the DG world is rich, imaginative and superbly detailed and will provide TONS of inspiration.
This seems really cool. Thank you for doing this module. If it's not too much trouble could you do another Delta Green module sometime? I would truly appreciate it.
Having seen Glass Cannon run part 1 of Impossible Landscapes, I'm eager to see Seth's review of Delta Green as a whole, especially comparing and contrasting it with Call of Cthulhu.
About 2 and a half years ago I youtubed "delta green" to see what it was about. I have since watched every video Seth has put out and I ran Last Things Last yesterday. They did the whole thing in one night and avoided my deer hunters. Bastards.
The body possession thing seems like a good way to do a Thing scenario. Maybe find Marlene in the cabin itself. She lets them look around the cabin, they find the note, take the gasoline out to the tank like normal. Instead of there being a voice, Marlene either left dead animals in it, or kept live ones to fool the players. Have it be maybe start to rain, washing out the road, so they need to stay longer. Wake up in the morning, and Marlene is dead. Pass notes to the players with one being told they're now the Thing.
Even tho I don't get everything because of my english level, I just love you're reviews. In depth analysis, multiple point of view and funny scenes. Perfect !
This was SO helpful, thank you! I'm very new to DMing and am going to be introducing Delta Green to some friends of mine, only one of whom is experienced with RPGs. I wanted to run Lover in the Ice or Extremophilia but was worried they would outstrip my abilities as a DM, and I was concerned Last Things Last would be too simple, short and boring, but after watching this I think I will be able to run it well, make it interesting, and give my players a great introductory session before moving on to Lover in the Ice in our next session. Enthusiastically subscribing!
I really liked this review, I'd love to see more Delta Green stuff from you or just in general. Black Pants Legion podcast just had a 2-part recollection of their campaign, dubbed Team Masticate, and that's really got me interested in the system and setting.
This video was awesome! Helped me get over first-time GM jitters, and I used a couple of your suggestions to deepen the adventure and make it more complex. The players loved it and I had a ton of fun too.
This really is Evil Dead 2, which could lead to a follow up game playing out like Bruce Campbell vs The Army of Darkness... now I have to write that...

Would I? Absolutely. Will I? That depends. I'd have to play it and a lack of books and time are the main factor. If someone ran me through one, I'd review it afterwards, but the GM's Lament is that I'm always the GM and I'm bust running other things.
Kali Ghati is a good one shot but it can use some work. It didn't make sense for me for the villagers to all wait once the pcs entered the temple so I had 8 guys on the stairs for the PC's to pop on their way out (with the lethality rules they go down FAST) 2 at a time down the steps and the whole village waiting outside in a large group holding hands waiting to try to force them back down the steps, using the "siege" section of the module rules for how to fight a group that large. I've run this twice with that modification and it works beautifully. Popping the guys on the stairs makes the PC's feel amazing, like action heroes pushing their way to the surface after the disempowerment below and once they see the crowd that dread comes back.
@@SSkorkowsky Seems like the adventures can be converted into CoC fairly easily, with the main differences being the modern setting and having the PCs being various government agents, contractors, or civil servants.
Thanks for this! I am a big CoC fan as well, but have a few internet friends who have really been toting Delta Green lately. After watching this, I am seriously considering purchasing the Need to Know product. As always - Game on!
I know im years late to the party but another thing you could have is have the 4 gas cans have some sort of rosaries or carvings and the last one would be completely empty as the local hunters used the gas to fill up their truck. This gives both one hell of a intro to the boss as maybe the pcs forget to check every can if its full and while she's screaming out for help as they pour the gas they realize they dont have enough and she then attacks.
Funny thing, I just finished watching the Evil Dead series a few days ago, and I thought "wasn't there a Seth Skorkowsky video that I've watched a while back that references these movies?" Then I rewatched this video because it's been a long while since I ran DG, and I also ended up finding said video that references Evil Dead. Next time I run this scenario I am definitely adding a chainsaw toolshed and a 12-gauge double-barreled Remington in the cabin... which coincidentally can also be found at the local S-Mart.
If you want a VERY dark followup I have an idea. You could use this to salvage things if they player(s) lose to the monster. I think it would be most likely if their is only one investigator. The monster kills the investigator and swaps bodies. The followup team is called in when the original investigator is found dead at a school shooting/attack. It turns out the monster possessed the dead investigator and committed the attack. It took over one of its victims. Now the players have to try and figure out why the "agent" committed the attack and get rid of the monster once it's discovered.
Delta Green sounds like something that inspired my Section 8 campaign for Call of Cthulhu. My players work for a secret organization called Section 8, and they get sent on missions to go off and battle the mythos.
It has some elements of the movie The Fallen, a disembodied evil spirit that jumps from person to person and requires special circumstances to destroy it.
Great video, Seth! I'll run this operation soon and will be adding your suggestions. I'd love to see more Delta Green videos, this is Jack's best outfit ever! ;D
I'll be honest I would consider adding something more on the bonds if a character immediately torches the tank even as the creature tries to plead with them. Have a thing where all the players who disagree get even more stress and have risks for it when the player(s) who torched the tank immediately so other thing I'm the future. Maybe even make those ones who rushed take more if they even hold back. They seem like the characters who would say I told you so and that could be an interesting drawback.
Anyone curious about how this scenario can go can also check out the Glass Cannon Network's playthrough of it as part of a currently 6 season series Get in the Trunk. Joe O'Brien runs it and the first 3 seasons are available in podcast form through their website. Highly recommended!
Don't worry Mr. Personification of Player, Cambell is back with Ash vs. Evil Dead the tv show. 2 seasons already. It is on Netflix from and was on tv at some point. If you haven't seen it. It is quite... Evil Dead...y
Seconded! If you haven't seen season 1 on Netflix, go now. It's very much a continuation of the movies, but with so many great add-ons like Lucy Lawless, great production values, new creatures, etc. etc.
I thought the second season started taking the plot a bit too seriously, and had less of the trademark humor, but they still beat most of what's out there. Season 3 trailer looked pretty good.
Well that’s a gorram shiny tshirt. Delta Green is one of my favourite things & the comparison to the X-Files is an apt one since both are kinda stuck in the 90s (like me). I found the presence of VHS tapes rather telling 😂...incidentally if you’re interested check out The Laundry RPG, a more comedic take on Delta Green/Lovecraftian horror. Very entertaining
Yeah, I'm a 90's kid. No shame there. But the VHS tapes were more to do with how long ago the former agent was an operative. It would be more realistic if they were old 8mm films, though, since he was active in Delta Green in the early 70's.
I would imagine he performed the ritual on her with her dead body already in the tank. If I run this, I'll have ritual symbols written on the inside of the tank, they'll be scratched off, and incomplete. Great video and ideas!!!
Happy 3 year anniversary for this video! Currently planning a modern day version of the Haunting where my PCs will be twitch streamers & RUclipsrs & I was curious about some of the other modern day CoC content!
Hey Seth, are you considering doing more Delta Green reviews? I got interested in Call of Cthulhu because of your channel, but ended up picking up Delta Green at the same time, and have been having a great time with it. I'd love to hear your take on some of the published scenarios that are out there.
Will you ever review any of the Adventure Modules from the indy (but Chaosium supported) CoC Module "Blood Brothers." In particular the first module in the book/downloadable document? I think when you read the back part of the first adventure, I think you'll see which ritual/spell from that book piques my interest that the PC's could particularly use and/or abuse. Even then, it could still be worked around by just making the PC's go through good ol' fashioned having them permanently lose their sanity or add the caveat that they can still die from physical violence, poison, disease, etc... In fact, this house and said spell could be tied into the monster from the end of this module you're reviewing quite easily.
This scenario would interface nicely with _Puppet Shows and Shadow Plays_ from the original *Delta Green.* By any chance, have you reviewed the _Army of Darkness RPG_ game from Eden Studios?
*Please do character creation guides / overview for other systems you & your groups play .* *Just like you did for Call of Cthulhu 7th edition .* *I really want to learn more about Conan , aliens & Advanced Dungeons & dragons 1 & 2 .*
Nicely done. I didn't recognize this one at first until the thing in the septic tank was mentioned. Then it came back to me. It really is Evil Dead 2. Now I want to watch some Evil Dead.
This is why you watch a Seth video before running a campaign. Watched the Glass Cannon play of this one, and while they did a great job, the Merlene thing escaped immediately and it was over… with Seth’s advice it could have been epic.
Hey Seth! Bro, i just downloaded this baby, thanks for the suggestion. Questions: Would you consider downloading and giving a loot at the Mutant Epoch's quick-start rules? Or is it not your thing?
Since we're on the subject of other Lovecraftian games, I'm curious, do you have any experience with Trail of Cthulhu from Pelgrane Press? I've never had a chance to try it myself, but I am curious about it as I've heard quite a few CoC players seem to prefer it mechanically over the Chaosium version. I've finally resolved to upgrade from my 6th Edition books and I'm debating between Trail and 7e, any input would be greatly appreciated.
Is that the "Hollow Earth Expedition" rpg sitting in the background? Does this mean you're going to do some Ubiquity system session? I'm not familiar with HEX, but have read some of the 'Leagues of Gothic Horror" (expansions for Leagues of Adventure) which uses the same system and has some wonderful content. Looks fun. Would like to hear how your recaps if so.
Another idea you can do with the pilot is have something like maybe the mud is starting to suck the Starship under like with Luke Skywalker's X-Wing and the pilot has to use the tractor being or tow cables and keep the ship from sinking while the boarding crew is rescuing the survivors nou fails a role in my saying causing something to happen in ship
I kind of like the idea of burning the Marlene thing releasing it to allow it to possess something else. In other words, the proposed solution is utterly wrong - and maybe even planted by Marlene somehow.
A friend ran this for me and another friend, was such a surprise and a great introduction to the world. I survived by the skin of my teeth, the other friend did not, because we went to the underground tank first.
I’ve been looking for the whole kit with the QuickStart rulebook plus GM screen, but EVERYWHERE I look the ONLY thing available is the booklet: I physically cannot find anywhere that sells the GM screen, and my stupid brain refuses to let me run a campaign without the right screen. Any help?
DG is overwhelmingly Mythos oriented. Although it has a very interesting 'gray' alien lore hook with a creamy Lovecraftian center. It's still a very CoC-style investigative game, however. I think the older Conspiracy-X rpg had more focus on alien stuff, among other X-files type cryptid stuff. I only have the GURPS 3e book for that setting, though, and never fully delved it. Still investigation leaning to some extent. When you say "Xcom" I'm guessing you want an action-heavy military style alien killing RPG, however. In that case, you'd probably need to find a supportive system (possibly a universal one) and do the extra work to flavor it with what you want.
This actually gives me an idea. Alright, in the chance that the PCs don't get the key in the apartment, and the next day they go to the cabin in the woods, what if one of the family members of this dead Delta Green Agent goes up there, having found the key in the apartment that the PCs didn't get? So now as the PCs are dealing with the Other trying to get out of that septic tank, the Agent's son in law or something comes by, seeing all this happening and suddenly you got another innocent that could potentially die.
So far it's the only one. I played some Delta Green under Bud from Bud's RPG review, but it was a home-grown scenario, so nothing to review. However last month I did finally pick up the DG Rulebooks and some of the adventures,. So if my players agree to it once we're done with our Righteous Blood, Ruthless Blades campaign, and probably a short jaunt into Blade Runner, we'll begin playing and then I'll have something to review. Short answer, no, but maybe in a year.
I love how you can get away w/ certain things as a Texas Ranger that you can't w/ other state agencies in games. If someone is a Texas resident and is involved in or is a victim of a crime, then a Ranger can be involved in out-of-state matters.
It's pretty unique in terms of combat, you have the ability to parry and dodge as reactions opposed to just having a straight reflex. It also allows you to fell as though you really are playing a super hero.
@@sglancy12 Oh, okay. I'll have to go back and check the dates on the magazine now! 😁 It's become quite the enigma! I may have misjudged when GW bought the publishing rights for CoC in the UK (I'm Australian).

The septic tank was not attached to the plumbing of the house, in the original scenario though.. sounds fun.
Your great suggestion of having 'The Other' escape and start a possession-hopping spree reminds me of that great Denzel Washington movie "Fallen".
I suppose the PC's first clue to what's in the septic tank could be a muffled voice singing "Tiiii-iii-iii-iiime is on my siiiide..."
My suggestion would be turning the septic tank into a bomb shelter he converted into a ritual chamber. That he then fled after discovering the entity. The reason it hasn't left is due to arcane wards etched into the threshold.

Spoilers:
I've GM:ed this scenario two times.
The first time the characters were part of "The Cowboys" faction of Delta Green. They listened to the creature for a while, realized it was hiding something and then tried to burn it. It jumped out of the tank, fought them for a while and then tried to flee in the direction of a store they had passed on the way to the cabin. In the end they handed her over to The Program which started to perform experiments on her (whithout the PCs knowledge).
That seems like a good example of how The Outlaws and The Program have different views and approaches to the supernatural.
As a note, this was actually published as a free shotgun scenario for Delta Green in 2005 by Bret Kramer. It was updated for the DG RPG.
Fuck yeah
It's always a good day when I sign on and see a new Seth vid. Tell Jack I said hi.
In the original version of the scenario, It didn't have things like "the Other" (which is why the husband was able to get her in the septic tank).

It's very much a continuation of the movies, but with so many great add-ons like Lucy Lawless, great production values, new creatures, etc. etc.
Ash vs. The Evil Dead is awesome. I love how they kept the look of it with cheesy effects and all.
Awesome vid! I was trying to get a feel for the scenario before running it and this had a lot of good tips and possible additions
Love your reviews, Seth!
Thanks for making this Seth!
Glass Cannon podcast just did this in their Patreon only content. Was a great listen.
Craig Garrett it was great. I hope they play DG again.
@@Decado1628 I hope you're satisfied with their "Get in the Trunk" campaign. It's incredible.
Happy 3 year anniversary for this video! Currently planning a modern day version of the Haunting where my PCs will be twitch streamers & RUclipsrs & I was curious about some of the other modern day CoC content!
That's an interesting concept. How'd it go?
Adding a stop for Gas on the way with a robbery is a good way to add some actions prior to the climax.
more delta green please!!!!!!
Hey Seth, are you considering doing more Delta Green reviews? I got interested in Call of Cthulhu because of your channel, but ended up picking up Delta Green at the same time, and have been having a great time with it. I'd love to hear your take on some of the published scenarios that are out there.
Same here!
Seth, I've always really liked you but the firefly shirt made that fondness grow by leaps and bounds!!!!! Stay Shiney!!!
as always an awesome and great review Seth. great job thanks again for all that you provide
*Please do character creation guides / overview for other systems you & your groups play .*
*Just like you did for Call of Cthulhu 7th edition .*
*I really want to learn more about Conan , aliens & Advanced Dungeons & dragons 1 & 2 .*
Love the dad stash Jack
thanks i will be running this soon
Please do a review for Eclipse Phase. It's a sci-fi RPG that can get really lovecraftian with a proper DM. And the fluff is superb.
Aren't they currently making a 2nd Edition of Eclipse Phase?
Nicely done. I didn't recognize this one at first until the thing in the septic tank was mentioned. Then it came back to me. It really is Evil Dead 2. Now I want to watch some Evil Dead.
This is why you watch a Seth video before running a campaign. Watched the Glass Cannon play of this one, and while they did a great job, the Merlene thing escaped immediately and it was over… with Seth’s advice it could have been epic.
This "it can posses another host" reminds me of a movie with Denzel Washington called Fallen.
The Rolling Stones - Time Is On My Side
That's an amazing movie - very atmospheric and spooky.
Hey Seth! Bro, i just downloaded this baby, thanks for the suggestion. Questions: Would you consider downloading and giving a loot at the Mutant Epoch's quick-start rules? Or is it not your thing?
This was fantastic, thank you
Found my first Delta Green story... Groovy
This thing got out of the septic tank and was a difficult fight, Holy Crap! Truer words.
You can also extend the adventure by giving Marlene the power to animate zombies. :)
Never tried Trail of Cthulhu. Heard good stuff about it, though
Oh well, thought I'd ask. Thanks for the reply anyway!
I recently found the HEX hardback at a Half-Price books. It's in the queue for a test-run in the next couple months.
@@SSkorkowsky I'm charmed to see my suspicion confirmed. I'm a huge simp for HEX. Best Pulp adventure system out there IMHO.
I love these videos man!
great to see a new video; and nice to see a cthulhu game set for local time :) has a very the secret world vibe
will you review dead man stomp from call of cthulhu?
Another idea you can do with the pilot is have something like maybe the mud is starting to suck the Starship under like with Luke Skywalker's X-Wing and the pilot has to use the tractor being or tow cables and keep the ship from sinking while the boarding crew is rescuing the survivors nou fails a role in my saying causing something to happen in ship
I kind of like the idea of burning the Marlene thing releasing it to allow it to possess something else. In other words, the proposed solution is utterly wrong - and maybe even planted by Marlene somehow.
I wonder if Seth could make a video comparing Delta Green & CoC Modern.
I now desperately wish to play this game.
I have one thing to say about this review...Groovy. 😃
A friend ran this for me and another friend, was such a surprise and a great introduction to the world. I survived by the skin of my teeth, the other friend did not, because we went to the underground tank first.
Will you be reviewing any of the more recent DG stuff?
Played this with a friend at a convention. Managed to confuse and surprise the DM by using a bottle of Dawn dish soap as the ultimate weapon
Great video as always.
More Delta Green!
Any help?
delta green was fun, i wonder how it compares to call of cathulu
you had me at Cthulhu meets x-Files...
Would Delta Green be a good platform to base an XCOM game around?
Thanks again, another great vid 🤘
reminds me a lot of the movie Fallen with Denzel Washington from the 90's damn good movie with a body hopping entity
I hope you're paying Jack well and not just offering him exposure.
Jack's career with me began as "exposure" for him. However, he's negotiated a much better deal for himself. He's now paid in whiskey and corn nuts.
Groovy
heeeey this story seems awfully familiar :D
This is the only Delta Green review on your channel.
I'm curious as if you have run anymore adventures.
@@SSkorkowsky
Thank you and cool. 👍
Groovy.
Can you be Texas DPS/Ranger in this?
Yes. Delta Green Agents can be from any walk of life. Many, but not all, are in law enforcement.
I love how you can get away w/ certain things as a Texas Ranger that you can't w/ other state agencies in games. If someone is a Texas resident and is involved in or is a victim of a crime, then a Ranger can be involved in out-of-state matters.
Many a Cthulhu mythos creatures are created from Taco Bell binges 😂😂😂
He propably tried to revive her in the tank to be sure still.
Seth is the MAN!!!!!
Have you ever tried Heroes Unlimited by Palladium Books?
I haven't. What's it like?
It's pretty unique in terms of combat, you have the ability to parry and dodge as reactions opposed to just having a straight reflex. It also allows you to fell as though you really are playing a super hero.
Wasn't Delta Green originally a CoC add-on in White Dwarf?
Nope. It began in the Call of Cthulhu fanzine "The Unspeakable Oath Issue 7."
@@sglancy12 Ah, goodo! I have what must be a reprint or update in an old White Dwarf from the early 1980's.
@@mikestanmore2614 Probably not. Issue 7 of the Unspeakable Oath was published Jan. 1, 1992.
@@sglancy12 Oh, okay. I'll have to go back and check the dates on the magazine now! 😁 It's become quite the enigma! I may have misjudged when GW bought the publishing rights for CoC in the UK (I'm Australian).
@@sglancy12 Nope, I'm thinking of Cthulhu Now, in issues 42-43.
Great!
