- Wanted to answer a few viewer questions on living in the ozarks. The Missouri Ozarks isn't the only place to homestead and bug out to but I think it is one of the best places.

The Ozarks in Missouri and Arkansas are beautiful and the people (at least to me) are different, because they are just more independent and friendlier than in and around big cities. I have also lived in the Ouachita mountains in Western Arkansas south of the Ozarks, both places are beautiful and both mountain ranges extend into Oklahoma. These mountains are small compared to the Rockies, but are both rugged and beautiful.
I live in the Ouachita mountain area going on ten months now. These people do not like outsiders, few
have that southern charm we all hear about. I'm going back to Missouri; never had any trouble living there. Just my experience.
Remember the movie where the government builds bunkers in the limestone caves of Missouri because of a meteor? It's for a good reason.
Missouri resident here from Howell county it's a decent place to live maybe a little too quiet for some but I've lived here off and on and I always come back its...home.

Just found your channel. Great stuff. I was born in Missouri and lived in the Springfield - Nixa area for some time. My children and grandchildren still live in Springfield. I now live in Bella Vista, AR and can almost throw a rock into MO. It's part of the Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale megaplex but we are in the country here. We are probably as far west of Springfield as you are to the east. As a life - long resident of the Ozarks area I will never leave it again. The most God-fearing, patriotic, America - loving people in the USA live here. Great place to live!
we just bought land in the Ozarks, in Arkansas. how are things there? we want to move there and live maybe off grid but don't know much about the laws of the state
@@jeannecheney461 not sure I can help you with that. We live inside the city limits of Bella Vista, Arkansas. That's about 40 miles south of Joplin, MO. We are also about 10 miles east of the Oklahoma border. Even though we live in a forested area, it's not truly rural. We don't "live off the grid". Taxes are low and there is no auto inspections required by the state of Arkansas. I am retired and my wife works at home for a company headquartered in Arizona. Where we live is growing rapidly and is pretty affluent. Three of the largest companies in the US is within 20 miles of us. Wal-Mart in Bentonville, J. B. Hunt in Rogers, and Tyson Foods in Springdale.
People here are pretty friendly but if you get into some smaller towns you will have a hard time being accepted by the locals. We went through that when we lived in Harrison, AR. Never made any friends in 3 years and decided to move from there. Glad we moved to Northwest Arkansas, also know as NWA.

There are some decent folk in Arkansas. You are wise to avoid some of the snobby yuppified shitties, ahem, cities.
I'm in Barry county, we have Mark Twain National Forest. I came from the panhandle of Oklahoma, I love it here, I could never move back to Oklahoma. Yes, it is absolutely beautiful here. It's a slower pace of living here, people are friendly and some of the tourist who come here can be snobby. But all in all it's cheaper cost of living, and people are one with nature here.
but how about jobs, or community sharing type jobs?
How about the crime and druggies?

I live in Barry County also...I love it!...Great property tax rates, and lots of peace here.
I vacation here and it's amazing. I also vacationed in Branson... I didn't like it much. I love lake of the ozark its beautiful.
Dude, stop advertising for the Ozarks. The most beautiful part of the Ozarks happens to be the low population density. Let's keep it that way! LOL!!!

Thanks for the informative and entertaining video. You’re correct, the Ozarks have it all for outdoorsmen, homesteaders and preppers. I have property in Southern Missouri and have to say this area is awesome. Where else can you have a view for miles on a ridge 1200 ft. above sea level, hike from massive outcroppings in the woods down to high grass meadows, then kayak on a river with white sandy beach with 40’ bluffs across the water all on one property. And most importantly, the Ozarks are a 2A and freedom loving area. Our entire country should follow in the footsteps of the great state of Missouri.

That creek looks familiar lol I'm from ripley county in between the current river and the eleven point river. Gotta say iv been all over this country and the ozarks are by far the greatest place on earth. We have a mini farm and we're headed for self sufficiency. Good to know there is others close with the same ideas. Love the channel!! Keep it up
My great grandfather helped build Lake Norfolk a little east of Mtn. Home Arkansas at the foothills. He built a lakehouse virtually on the water in 1939 to avoid the commute. I have been going up there for 32 years (my entire life). Its hallowed ground to me,been passed down and passed down and now it's my turn to take care of the property. Absolutely beautiful part of the country. We are fortunate enough to have a private dock about 300 meters from the cabin. The people in the area are extremely friendly, never had one problem with any locals, except for the occasional thrown beer can or cigarette butts. My girlfriend and I are currently in the process of resorting,renovating and getting the property as off grid as possible. already have 2.4 kw of solar power. no energy bill PERIOD. Would never sell or change this for ANYTHING. Will be subscribing. Thanks for the video.
We're not far from there. My husband already moved up. I want animals, but he has a pic of a black bear on the game camera 75 yards from the house back in the woods. 😬 Loved seeing it, except what it means for chickens, a goat or two, etc...🤔

the rich won't move where I live the schools are kind of crappy and it's a 20-mile drive to the nearest store other than a gas station there is no fast food there is no nothing we have a post office a Dollar general and a gas station closest nearest town is poplar bluff that's 20 miles away

I live in the Fayetteville/Springdale/Bentonville/Rogers area of NWA. In 2010 the combined population was about 500,000. I expected the 2020 census to be at least 10% higher as we have been one of the fastest economic growth areas in the US. However, it gives all the amenities you expect in a metropolitan area, but we are still, by national standards, a laid back middle American fly-over area. We are surrounded by the Ozark National Forrest. Go 50 miles east and you are in the Wilderness. Go 75 miles and you are in the Buffalo River National Park. Many preppers live within an hour of here and have all the solitude and unfettered lifestyle they seek.
My friend at NWAPrepper channel demonstrates you can live and work in NWA while still pursuing the prepper life and have the best of both worlds!(link to NWAPrepper is in this channel’s subscriptions)
This is awesome! My wife and I have been watching off grid with Doug and Stacy and just saw them mention you in one of their videos. Anyways my wife and I have been looking at a couple different properties & 3 of them are in the Ozark’s. So it’s awesome to hear all the Q & As about the area!! It will be good to at least know a couple people as we move in. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

@@Robinhood1966 I'm here in central South Carolina looking to relocate as we have had a lot of people from up north coming down here retiring and made the property value skyrocket as a result. from what I have seen so far is that finding even a small amount of flat land in the Ozarks at a good price is a needle in a haystack situation. But I'm going to continue to look and hopefully luck out. I just need to make sure that there ain't no anti gun Ozark hippie neighbors out there humping trees or whatever it is they do up yander 🤣 y'all have a wonderful day and a better tomorrow 👍🍻

Property around 20 miles north and south of the Missouri Arkansas border, not near sizable towns are still reasonable, around 2k an acre.

Well I was rise in SEMO and we had earthquakes all the time. Around the poplar bluff area is a great place good hunting and fishing I now live in Fort Worth Texas and I do miss the rivers and live water ever thing here is lakes. Hopefully some day I will go back
On point. This is a good place to live, but be ready to blend in and listen. Don't come in like you know everything or else you will find yourself unwelcome. Accept that you are stepping into a new world and adapt to it.

When people live miles apart from each other who are the folks acting like know it alls in front of?
@@hunibuni believe it or not people are closer than you would imagine. The neighbor who is 5 miles by road can live just over the backside of the hill across the road. Also 10 miles away becomes a next door neighbor when the nearest grocery store is 25 miles away. You make friends and connections put here or you don't make it when the ice storm hits or the power goes out for a month.

If you are prepared you will have tor shelter. I love our Ozarks. People think we’re all hillbilly’s from books and Hollywood. The neighbors are friendly just like he said just blend in and don’t cause waves

Not exagerating, Sounds like Sundown towns, so is that how Branson is? Or you meant something else? Thanks for your feedback.
From Ozark I'm in the sticks TRUST ME. But that's why I love this place I can fish a mile from my house. I can hunt off my back porch it's just heaven. What river are you filming at? Good luck to ya.
what about jobs?
Old Fart In Crypto not very many great jobs. Why I’m no longer there. Most jobs go to those they know or family. Unless you’re willing to travel to a bigger city daily. I lived in Arkansas ozarks in a bigger town and had a degree in graphic design or visual communications. Went to the local ad agency daily for six months to get a job. They were hiring. Finally moved back to Houston where I went to college and met my husband for work. Cause we couldn’t get jobs at McDonald’s even. A few weeks later they called and said they’d hire me now and if I’d only mentioned that I was related to----- earlier they’d have hired me earlier. I should have been hired for experience not who I know. But that’s how it goes. Unless it’s booming at the time. Yes, there’s drugs like he says. It’s worse among the kids I think but adults are doing it and making it. Drugs are everywhere you go today. I was a kid in high school there and participated because there was literally nothing else to do. But that’s been 25 years ago and the churches and other people are now trying to provide other activities for kids now. Whereas there was nothing when I was there. It is a very nice slower pace lifestyle though. Summertime is awesome. I cannot wait to move back. I plan on it. I lived in Mountain Home and Heber Springs, Higden, Quitman areas. Loved it. Taxes are low and living is cheap. I will hopefully retire there to the family land sooner rather than later. If you live in a big city and like having convenience of everything close by, then you will Likely not be happy. Unless you think you can wait to make a trip to the city. Which many do on occasion and some never do. If you cannot make do with your local Walmart, you’d be better off staying in the city. Yes some towns have more but many towns you’d buy land for a preppier place do not.

I grew up in the Ozarks. The sounds and smells of the hollers get down in your blood. I left for work but it didn't leave me.
What's it like? Humid- cold in winter, brutally hot & muggy in summer. It's been clearcut twice (first pine, then oak), so the topsoil is gone. Soil is poor and rocky, trees are hard and gnarly. Rivers are filled with angular gravel that washed off the clearcut hills, and it can be rough to walk on. There are very few well-paying jobs around, not too many people, and poor cell service outside of the towns of 15,000+ people. Meth was rampant- labs and users. Mexican heroine was taking over for a while (Another manufacturing job, shipped overseas...). Flash floods, tornadoes, ice storms- you get the drift. The key here, is being self-sufficient has its benefits.
It might be the single most "free" state I've lived in- firearms, taxes, alcohol, etc. People tend to be nice, but rural areas seem to have the trend of losing the higher-potential people to higher-paying areas. If you move in there and try to bring your laws and politics with you, you will be shunned. If you try to blend in, then you'll pretty much be accepted. If you help out around the community, then you'll become part of the community. It's simple, really. Church is a pretty big deal.
Lots of absentee landowners- people that own recreational property for hunting, fishing, or playing around on ATVs/dirtbikes- the ideal getaway.
The Mark Twain NF is 1.1 million acres, open to all. Rivers abound, as
do springs. Access is great. Canoeing is world-class.Tight & rugged terrain, can be
steep, but not terribly tall (until you try going up them!). Hunting and fishing are great, but there is a learning curve. Rolling hills covered in an incredible variety of hardwoods and other trees. Absolutely gorgeous, and possibly a woodworkers paradise.
God, I miss the Ozarks.

Now, it's not like I've never heard of the Ozarks, but I simply never learned anything about the area. This place looks like heaven to me. I'm at that age when I've got lots of work years left, but am looking forward to living more like I would wish to. As a private music teacher, I could easily see living in a nearby city and also having a place in the Ozarks to live and teacher in the summer. A place I could set up as a prepper. A place to retire to. A place to be part of a small community. My interest is piqued.

The Northwest Arkansas Council’s analysis of new U.S. Census Bureau population estimates, which were made public today, suggests Northwest Arkansas growth will easily reach that important Top 100 milestone by early 2019.
My thoughts too. I live just across the border a little ways. I hate driving in NWA. I've been learning the backways in and out of places.

LOL. I went to high school and 2 years college at Miami...we used to run around Joplin some...I know what people are like there...I had to move, and my granny lived in Pryor OK so that's where I live now...9 years ago it was crowned the meth capital of OK

The ozarks is a separate geological plate. It is not moving, it’s the ones around it is moving. That fault has been estimated to move about once every 500 years.. However, if Yellowstone blows, it could move . Also north of Ardmore Olk is the Arbuckle. It also could have a earthquake

One of the complaints by Ozarkians is there is lack of respect by newcomers to property. You were on private property. Just as, they will probably allow and you will meet new neighbors . It’s the lack of respect that is infuriating.
It's like going back in time 15 years. After dark if you dont have it you can't get it till the next day.

I tried to talk my husband into getting some ducks. but he wasn't crazy about the idea. I do have chickens, dogs and cats. He grew up on a pig farm in Michigan, so he won't get a pig. Easy to listen to and believable. You'd make a good teacher, man. BTW, I am aggressively seeking real estate in the Ozarks. Northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. That area is being called by many "The New Florida".

I was born and raised in MO...I moved to dry climate as the weeks of clouds, chiggers, ticks, water snakes, humid air you have to crawl through I could no longer take. You plan a lake day it pours rain. You freeze to bone in winter. Burn up in summer. Ears ring from locusts and frogs. Had snakes hanging in trees. Lake of Ozarks is full of meth and taken over one side of it, dangerous drunken boat drivers all summer. Taxes insane, they nearly tax the clothes in closet each year. Normal is 3-5 weeks zero sun. Ticks fall on you those seed ticks, yuck. Drunks on every hwy and back roads. Snow takes long time to melt. If you like mud in car, on clothes and shoes you'll love it. One good thing is Missourians are helper when needed. Good luck loving climate. Take pictures of this area daily for a week so people can see it on 300 days of cloudy that's normal. Can anyone tell I'm happy I don't live there? Listen you will experience depression...also, expect long lines where you shop, no one checks you out at normal speed. It's less than slow...just to let you know.. everything cost more than you think.

We bought an older house in the Ozarks of Arkansas. I've lived in Texas almost all my life, but we have been invaded by foreigners. My husband and I both have family all over Missouri, and we always vacationed in Arkansas when we could get away. I feared the chiggers and ticks. But this year where I have stayed, the ticks get on my little 4 at a time (!!!) And that's in the grass. And you haven't dealt with anything until you have to battle fire ants. We're losing the war here.

Maryland is one of the most beautiful states in the US. Maryland has it all: mountains, lakes, streams, beaches, beautiful walking trails with waterfalls throughout the state; just gorgeous. However, insanely rich elites combined with it being a Sanctuary State have made living here extremely expensive due to high property costs and high taxes. I call it Little Cali.
I live in NJ and I've never spent any time in Maryland except to go to DC. I thought Maryland had low taxes. I've heard of people from NJ retiring there. Not so ? How's the quality of life ? Do you like the beaches ?

I would love to sell my place for more growing season. I still have x amounts of snow. I'm thinking near my daughter and sil homestead in the Appalachia mountains. Lots of growing season. And yeah city people ruin it by wanting regulations. Cant get away from it. God Bless y'all

I love living in the ozarks. Howdy from Maysville. I'm pretty sure the Rogers, Bentonville, Springdale, Fayetteville area is close in population to Springfield...unfortunately.
I just searched it and together they're about 550,000.....that's more than 3 times the size of Springfield.............ugggh

Yes the population here is getting ridiculous. Every time I come to town there is more and more traffic on the road. If this keeps up they're gona need to build a subway.

Springfield is the 3rd largest City in Missouri, I came from Natchez Mississippi. Springfield has it's problems, like anywhere, but is heaven compared to most mid size cities. If you're from Southern California, stay there. There are a lot of hollers where you might get lost and never found !

I came to Missouri about 2 weeks ago to look at some property for our homestead and I would love to know more about the tornado's. That is the one thing keeping us from moving to Missouri which is unfortunate because we loved the looks of the state.
Look at the Joplin tornado that struck there. You need to have a safe bunker or shelter as we are under warnings often in the Spring and early Summer.
Moonlitcoyote....I lost my house to a tornado in 2006 in Arkansas near the Missouri line. The same day some cities were struck in MO. But tornado's are not something easily predicted or even guessed at. Look at all the years I never lost a house or was even near a tornado. The worse killer tornado's in history have been in places like Indiana and Michigan. Don't let a phobia (and yes I have had them) keep you from doing and going to where you want to go. If you like a place in MO, go for it, your chances of being in a tornado is almost zero.
I think people will always find something to be afraid of. Is there any area that doesn't have some sort of natural disasters? Whether it be hurricanes, forest fires, tornadoes, flooding or whole host of other issues. Life's a risk.

My family lived i the Ozarks of MO when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's, All I will say is that between Branson and all the people moving there, it is screwed.

Guessing that KC and St Louis folks are going to keep up pressure on prices from here on now that more folks are getting wiser every day (at least in your part of the country, not mine).

We intended to retire to my dream property I bought it in 2015 right outside of Marshall We worked 8 years on it Traveling 11 hours often and using all of our vacation time to be there Absolutely a dream of mine for my entire life
Ruined by a very unfair ruling My neighbor was awarded rights to cross our property when he clearly did not need to have access thru our property He bulldozed all of it and did not cross our property to do it He wanted to build a resort and have his guests drive all over our property instead of his And SUSAN WEAVER let him No restrictions or need to maintain it. Just take away all our use and enjoyment and ruin it We sold the property to someone that didn’t need privacy
I hate we had to let our property go. We loved our neighbors The beauty of Ark And we were even married in the Canaan church

You can rent a 3bdrm 2 bath home or mobile, often with little to no deposit, for about $500 a month. Entergy will nail.u for about 230 deposit.for electricity but in the mobile parks often its included. Find an area online that has alot of properties ur interested in viewing, then get a cheap mobile for rent as a base camp from which to do ur exploring from. Head out with the bare essentials. Pillows, sleeping bags, etc. Buy a.couple camping cots at wall Mart and an air mattress, push em together n u n the missus mesh the zippers from ur sleeping bags. Any extras u need go to goodwill just for sum temp stuff. Gas is cheaper. Dehydrate fruits n veggies 2 bring with cuz produce is expensive out yonder. Best of luck.

Had an interesting time on the Salem Plateau when I was in Ft. Leonard Wood 10 years ago. I always wanted to explore the area more but had to keep my nose in training. The idea of a third mountain range behind the giants of the Rockies and Appalachians intrigues me, I'd love to hike the plateaus someday and continue learning more about the region.
Before this morning, I had no idea about the Boston Mnts., the Ouachita Mnts., the White River, the US Interior Highlands or that the longest river in America and the one called Big Muddy is the Missouri, not the Mississippi.

I'm from Christian County, right between Springfield and Branson. Took the family to Pilot Knob to visit Tom Sauk Mtn, Elephant Rocks, Shut-Ins, etc. a couple years ago. When you have one McDonalds for three towns to share with the nearest Walmart almost an hour away, you know you're in a special part of the state. It's absolutely beautiful out there. The main thing keeping us from relocating is the lack of employment opportunities.
You could always go work at the lead mines- that sadly seems to be the only decent-paying option in that part of the state.

I live in Missouri I live in wappapello Missouri in the foothills of the Ozarks was born and raised in St Louis I have felt one earthquake in my entire 45 years and it was nothing more than a slight tremor at 3.8 so earthquakes are something that I don't worry about and as far as druggies go meet your neighbors and the people who own you're joining property become friends with them where I'm at we run people like that out also you got to watch out for thieves and as far as tornadoes are concerned I've only been in one tornado f-1 that's 95 mile an hour winds it blew down one tree in my yard it was already weak ...had no one told me it was a tornado I really just would have thought it was a regular thunderstorm
My mother's side of the family is in the Rogers/Springdale area, we go down there and go camping every Memorial day weekend. Unfortunately we live in Michigan but that place has been calling my name since the first time I visited there at 11 years old. We plan on selling our house and moving out there within the next few years and get the heck out of this damn state! Most people don't know how lucky they are to have been born and raised there ❤
What's wrong with Michigan? I could see it being bad around Detroit or other big cities, but what about the rest?
@@mrbr549 politics here becoming too liberal, no fault car insurance which makes it the most expensive in the country, winter lasts way too long, the roads are complete shit, not much for good and steady jobs, I literally could go on and on. Now they're trying to add on a .45 cent tax increase to fix our roads (which will never happen). Don't get me wrong michigan is a beautiful state but that is about it and in my opinion only in the summer.

Beautiful in late spring, summer, and fall. Brutal in winter. Great if you like shoveling through several feet of snow all winter.
In NH now, I lived in MO for a few years, looking to move back. I love NH, but it's definitely expensive and freaking cold.
