    This game's success will depend on how much time they spend building alternate scenarios for the player to choose, rather than the cannon choices. This could be really good.

      I still don't know why they couldn't have just left a bomb with a timer to blow up the array.

    • @daniellewis3330
      @daniellewis3330 5 months ago +13

      Because then there's no show.
      No, like literally, *a lot* of Star Trek hinges on decisions that aren't completely rational.
      There's a plethora of examples where the story doesn't even happen if they make reasonable, rational decisions, but the story is there (in most cases, anyway) to explore the ramifications of that illogical choice.
      It doesn't *make sense*, and that's sort of the point.
      I mean, can you imagine how mind-numbingly boring a show about a Vulcan Science Directorate ship would be, lol?

    • @norfolkngood8960
      @norfolkngood8960 5 months ago +6

      @BobMcBobJr There was a large Kazon fleet descending on them and they had no way of knowing WHEN to blow the array, as soon as they've "left", once they arrive, how timing till work, whether they can remote control such a device once in tranist.
      Voyager literally had no time, they blew the array and then RAN

      Given they can recall people at the push of a button, the presence of necessary officers makes more sense as they don’t see it as as much a risk.

      True but we know in canon there's at least one other Federation ship kidnapped (captain you just got promoted from sapient alien species to power source) so you could easily be the captain of another ship, possibly even an Intrepid class that was yoinked. Instead of a random ally the other ship you can have protect you could be the voyager.

      Same, but I think for a video game, Voyager has a better setup and premise. Ship management in particular, without Starfleet support, is an idea the show played with that got abandoned by the show writers later on because it was annoying to write around, but as a video game mechanics it is perfect.

    • @stylesrj

    This looks really cool, I was never the biggest VOY fan because I thought they wasted the premise to be yet another episodic trek show, but this game could actually end up taking advantage of the cool premise way better than the show ever did. I really hope it pans out and gets the quality it deserves for release

    • @ODSTGeneralYT
      @ODSTGeneralYT 5 months ago

      Yeah thankfully it looks like heroes can be killed off and damage and resources have a chance to be an ongoing issue that effects the stories and how you approach them. Would have been nice for Voyager to do a hybrid episodic/serialized approach like DS9 where we saw that stuff in the show.

    6:52 If a Federation starship is anything like an actual US naval ship, the vast majority of the crew are enlisted (did not graduate from Starfleet Academy). The comparatively few officers are the ones who spent years studying at Starfleet Academy and are the ones trained for away missions and such. It makes logical sense to have officers on away missions (to command the mission with some enlisted crew members as well).

  • @sgt_retiredcharlie4102
    @sgt_retiredcharlie4102 5 months ago +3

    It actually does. I got 14 crew members that were from Nelix's race. The demo is a little buggy. There's a thing where your bridge crew tell you what to build to raise moral. One was a cargo bay. I had already built one, so I built another one, but I guess since I had already built one it didn't count and the crew were "disappointed" that I didn't fulfill my promise. Also, there are only 3 star systems, so you run out of resources and places to visit really quickly. I wish there had been like 5 or so, so we could play for a little longer. I've played a couple times and I've also always FAILED the "Let's go home" check. So that was really funny to see. Thanks for the review and I look forward to playing the game when it comes out.

      @norfolkngood8960 set a time-delay on three torpedoes, fire them, push the button, roll credits.
      At the end of the day, like with many of Janeway's decisions, the captain did what she did because the plot demanded her to.

      They literally did that in the end when they used the Borg train.
      What wasn't possible in the beginning of the series was the solution in the end.

    Though with the Caretaker Array still in one piece (mostly) the Kazon will have a chance to take it over, and while the chances of them successfully doing so seem pretty slim the potential for disaster is immense.

    Logically if you wanted to use the array to go back to the Alpha quadrant, just plant some explosives set to go off after the ship is sent back. The array is destroyed and you're crew is home now. But I am trained to think of these things.

    Nice looks a bit like the free to play fallout bunker game. Expand your base, build rooms, level up your crew and gather resources with away missions.

    Of course going home early doomed the Federation to fall to the Borg given the technology to fight them was never invented and the transwarp network is fully intact. Might have even caused issues in the Daimonion war given Voyager logs were sent to Starfleet while the war was still going on.

    • @BoydofZINJ
      @BoydofZINJ 5 months ago

      OMGness this is where we learn that the Dominion lost to Voyager logs and not the worm hole alien shinnanigans with Siscko Shinnanigans. Shinnanigans I say, Shinnanigans!!!

    • @SiXiam
      @SiXiam 5 months ago +1

      @BoydofZINJ Sisko wins a few times were very close to losing. I'm not saying the logs would have been decisive, but they could have helped just enough to matter in those close battles.

    • @BoydofZINJ
      @BoydofZINJ 2 months ago +2

      @michaelbarnard8529 unless the Borg would naturally have found a solution without Voyager. Furthermore, perhaps it was Voyager event that convinced The Borg to go to fluidic space. Who is to say?

    It won't break from the plot is my expectation, you will get just as much agency as in telltale games and in the end it still kind of railroads you into one and the same story.

    14:25 Neelix already has a Starfleet combadge, I notice.
    Not an important thing, but the kind of detail that's real nice if done right. Let's see in-game actions have consequences on the portraits.
    and thank's for the play-through of the demo. This is def a game I could get into. Both for many of the game mechanics and for it being Voyager. All I'm really missing is the science lieutenant from the opening scene of ep 2x20.

    From my understanding the Badlands were used because long range tracking technology didn't work there. As a result to find and destroy the Maquis you had to actually go inside, and hunt them down.

    Those that have never seen Star Trek (yes, I know you exist), the Delta Quadrant is almost like what the Grand Line is in One Piece. Normally hard to get to (in fact in Voyager, it was a fluke that they even got there), and even harder to get back from. But the difference is that with the Grand Line, it's the Calm Line that runs parallel to the Grand Line on the north and south of it that makes it hard to get back, whereas with the Delta Quadrant, it's the sheer distance that makes it difficult.

    "Tom Paris, formerly a member of the Marquis." Noooooooo!!! Chakotay, the First Officer, and B'ellana Torres were the formerly-Marquis main characters! [deep belly laugh] Can't wait for this game to come out. Like Pravus, I grew up with Voyager!

    • @thomaszinser8714
      @thomaszinser8714 5 months ago +11

      Tom Paris was also formerly-Maquis. It's just that he was arrested before the first episode and was recruited as an adviser to get through the Badlands, which is why he was on Voyager from the start.

    Ran to the cupboard, threw a bag of popcorn in the nuker, and THEN the washroom was hit, washing up happened, popcorn finished, was bowled and bam, back on the couch with a second or two left in the commercial break. I’m not unique.
