Yeah Paul's great but John would've awarded her his broomstick. Bet she'd of loved that even more. This is amazing to see now knowing the story about She's leaving home. 😂
I'm glad she can be so relaxed about the whole incident now. At 60 years old (in 2010) she's still looking great! She was the pick of the bunch for me in that Ready, Steady, Go! line up and I've sometimes wondered what happened to her - amazing to find out that her life had that extra twist in it.
In the mid-70s I attended a session of the Anna Scher Theatre School in north London and saw a teenaged girl acting to the song, her only prop was a chair: it was brilliant. Years later, I realised that the girl was either Linda Robson or Pauline Quirke, (I can't remember which one as they were both there), who both grew up to become famous TV actresses.
I always thought nothing musically could possibly ever move me emotionally to the point of tears until the first time this song was played on the girl living next door's turntable , which I could hear coming from her bedroom window. I remember being relieved that I was outside in the yard by myself because in those days, being a male meant you were to never cry about anyone or anything lest you be considered something less than a man even if you were still just a 12 year old boy.
Is it just me, or after watching this incredible story about how Paul and Melanie are so connected in many ways, Paul should have rang her up after mourning for Linda and tied the knot with Melanie and lived happily ever after. And what a beauty to boot:)
In another interview, she mentioned a line in the song that explained exactly how she felt and why she left. I had never noticed the line before but it is really a very clever and insightful line. "She's leaving home after living alone for so many years".
Great story and great interview! I had tips and bits of it along the years, but the report put everything as a whole and give us the interesting perspective of Melanie herself. And I love this song!
I’m so happy to finally see Melanie Coe and to hear her speaking too because she once only appeared on the programme ready steady go from the 1960s in a miming contest to the Brenda Lee song let’s jump the broomstick where she first saw and met Paul McCartney briefly when winning the contest and that I finally get to see her years later from when she left home on this The story about Melanie leaving home does sound quite sad in a way I think with her parents who I think cared about her but she never said in this that they didn’t care about her but it’s sad about the fighting, screaming, shouting and throwing things around as Melanie said and the song itself makes it sound very sad too.
This one is an incredible coincidence (as in having no credibility) I detect a grown man becoming obsessed with a 13-year-old girl he meets on a music/dance program and then secretly stalking her for the next four years.
For the 75% of young people who struggle with depression, It doesn't look like the "free love" fraud has any shelf life. I dislike your tabloid style, we want honesty from reactors, not jive. Why don't you let people FIND THEIR OWN MEANING???
Wednesday morning at five o'clock Brian Epstein called They need a judge for Ready Steady Go Can you be there for the show? hmmm! All sounds a bit too good to be true to me. Maybe all too much like rich parents paying good money in an attempt to launch her into a celebrity career, which failed.
That's why I love Paul McCartney above the other members of the Beatles he is instinctive and read the game of life very well
Me too. I think he is intelligent but just keeping a low profile
I like them all equally. They're all geniuses.

Amazing. Paul was connected to the Universe.
There's more to heaven and Earth than meets the eye. Something we should all try to remember in times of despair.

If I'd be her I would have that engraved on my tombstone. "The Beatles wrote a song about me."
It seems that she's lived quite a full life, so there's no need to pin everything on one thing that she wasn't even aware of at the time.
I seriously had NO idea about this song. I'm glad she went back with her parents and everything went okay.
No she aborted her baby
She literally said she was dragged by her hair into the car...are you daft?
Did you just learn what an abortion is?
What a story, and what a great song created out of it
How could she treat them so thoughtlessly?
How could she do this to them?
Bye Bye

@JoseeTimmer ,
The subtitles are produced live for The One Show, so some seconds late and with a few mistakes.
"LOVE is the one thing that money can't buy". Money can buy plenty of FUN.
the lyric is "Fun is the one thing that money can't buy"
@@frederickbulsara8141 Yes, but it should be "Love is the one thing that money can't buy..." as per Can't Buy Me Love and All You Need Is Love

Great story, shame about the subtitels, it's confusing this way.

Class song !

To correct your video description Melanie Coe was 17 when she ran away from home...Not 15.
So interesting!
Fabulous video except for the subtitles. Is there a version without them?
You can see this video without the subtitles here: ruclips.net/video/5ivE4G27Uys/видео.html
The subtitles ? Make them BIGGER, cover the entire screen !
Does she still have that LP????????
When stuff like this happens in the universe, it's gotta be divine intervention.
She should meet up with Paul over again and he should sign an album for her
Carrie was stunning in those days. David Grant is a very lucky man.
sad song ever :'(
Wonder if Lovely Rita's still alive?

P Mc is famed for his psychic radar. At one time he even took Jesus into the studio whilst he recorded "Getting Better" - also on Sgt P.
I understand, wasn't ment in an offending way, still like this video, but as I said shame about the subtitels :D.
Great story. SHE is now in her 70s and sadly it's her PARENTS who are gone.

They should have told the stories of the three girls who lost to Melanie. I wonder if they remained Beatles fans!
