Is it just me or does anyone else like it when Skip and Shannon both agree on something. I like it when they feed off of each other and it really gives a good feeling watching them
I will never forget back when the great Derrick Thomas made a record breaking SEVEN sacks in one game against Seattle, he commented that it was the sack he didn't get that haunted him. As years passed, whenever the media wanted to discuss this incredible accomplishment and talk about the game, he always said it was "more bitter than sweet" because his team lost that game. And that as much as he'd love to remember that day as a perfect memory, a crowning achievement, the record doesn't mean as much when you feel like you let your team down.
Mind you, the Chiefs didn't lose because he made a mistake, or refused to attend practice, or otherwise fail to maintain self discipline and focus on the team as a whole. He just didn't get that EIGHTH sack. But he carried that with him. THAT is being a team player.
I'm just a fan and didn't know Mr Thomas personally of course, but in my opinion he's the greatest pass rusher of all time. I was so lucky to have met him twice during fan events. He talked with nearly all of us for almost two full minutes. Which may not seem very long but imagine lines of people hanging behind a plastic fence all waiting to talk to you. We didn't have cell phones back then, so there was a lot of fumbling (ha) with cameras and taking multiple pictures. A huge smile on his face the whole time, a total class act, and genuinely loved the fans and his team. I miss him still to this day.
