    Repairs that require no spare parts at all are always the best. People should stop resetting the lamp hour counter as soon as a warning message appears. Lamps WILL explode and cause more damage compared to the few hours you will get from the lamp after resetting the hours. Excellent and most enjoyable work Frank!

      So many people think that's some sort of hack, like it's a company conspiracy to make you change a lamp... Someday I need to do a video on the changes Ive noticed over the years with timers. At one point it was popular to shut down the projector after it's hours ran out. Then some companies (NEC) tried hiding the timer reset. Then we have the chips eeproms and PIC chip timers. I'm glad it's not so much beaten over people heads now. Plus dynamic lamp control has greatly extended the life span.

    Your video was invaluable. I had a bulb blow spectacularly leaving shards of glass inside. After replacing the bulb and pulling out the pieces I was able to, the projector was shutting down after three minutes or so. Ultimately, I was able to remove the lamp fan using your instructions and found two additional pieces of glass inside that was locking it. After removing those pieces and reassembling (with no extra parts), the projector is working great.Thanks for putting together such a great video.

    Hi, Frank. Thanks! Prior to replacing an exploded bulb, I had already bookmarked this video: so I did not despair when the thing powered off after a few minutes. Several days later, we fixed it. I am a little ham-handed and I HATE plastic clips. My wife even helped me with the disassembly. There was only one leftover screw and the projector works again beautifully !

    Great video, very helpful. If others have issues with it not powering on, it was shown off camera but he wedged something to keep the cover switch down when testing. I didn’t see this, buttoned it up except for the cover to test and had no power. I thought I left something unplugged and took it all apart before I realized there was a cover switch. Pressed it in and all worked fine.

    That looks exactly like a w2000 which I repaired a few days ago. The colour wheel wasn't coming up to full speed after a minute or so shutting down. I had a feeling the light sensor was not detecting enough light. cleaning didn't help. Replaced it and that cured the problem. costing around 15 bucks. So, long live aliexpress! I had to make some adjustments to the c wheel in the service mode. Before changing parameters is good to note what the initial parameters were set to. so, if necessary you can reverse to default.

      I'm pretty sure the w2000 is the European version of the 3550?. I never hear about them in the states. Interestingly the rom chip has w1110 on this model so ht2050 must be an afterthought as a part number. Someday I hope a BenQ engineer finds this channel and will answer some questions.

    Hi Frank, your videos were very very helpful for me cleaning out my old BenQ W2000 I sold to a friend that had been running for 8 years without a proper clean (and also with learning how to reach the service menu), and though that projector is now very clean and free of any visual orbs left by when my friend tried to use computer duster on it, when I run the lamp in normal mode (it also ramps up in eco but not as much obviously) it quickly goes from Temp 1 around 403 and LampOut/PwrOut/LampBlw/DMDIn around 2500-2700 (these being the targets as well), to temp 415-418 with fan speeds/targets in the 2700-3000 range. Do you have any idea what might be causing this?
    I am wondering if it has to do with me repasting the heatsink badly somehow, or a fan or sensor acting up maybe (though fanspeeds look like they're accurate from the readings and fan sound) I haven't torn it down again to check the heatsink, and I'm fairly sure the fans are in the right directions as I went back in and verified those. I have no idea where to find much info on servicing these so your videos have been my only source of information, thanks in advance if you have any tips

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  10 дней назад

      Make sure the fans are blowing the right way. Some blow in , some blow out. If they are all blowing the same direction that might be the issue. Also check the lamp blower fan(turbine fan) in the center. It kind of sounds like that isnt working right. I suspect you have a fan blowing the wrong direction though from what you are describing.

      I think that is normal. That fan only comes on in high altitude mode if I recall correctly. Try setting it to HA mode and see if it kicks on. If you are not getting a temp error I would not worry about it but you can verify its operation that way.

    Hi Frank.
    After replacing an exploded bulb and cleaning up the central fan on benq 3050 service menu shows the temperature of 400-420. Seems a bit too high, the fans are blowing at 3000 but it doesn’t shut down due to overheating.
    Should I be concerned about the temperature?

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  2 года назад +1

      If it's running happily, I would think its okay. The temp does sound awfully high though. Double check the fan speeds expected versus the fan speeds you are seeing. 400f is pretty high and 400c is REALLY high.

  • @blifix3396
    @blifix3396 9 месяцев назад +1

    Hey Frank, I was almost sure that the problem was the blower fan but after taking it apart, nothing seams alarming, I thought a piece was stuck inside the blower because once the projector gets up to temperature, it starts making a high pitched sound kind of like something spinning and hitting something very fast and then turns off due to being too hot, but turns out it cannot be the blower because it spins perfectly well, and the sound looks like it comes from the color wheel but I cannot be sure because the two are so close to each other, and in the admin menu, I do have a blower sensor fault, I really cannot figure out the problem here... do you have any idea? and have you ever had the same high pitched noise problem? (same projector btw)

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  9 месяцев назад

      it could be the color wheel or the fan, but to tell which, I would take the blower fan out and make sure there is no other glass bits inside. As long as its clear of glass, then I would unplug the color wheel wire and try to fire up the proejctor. It wont ignite the lamp but the fans will come on. If its then quiet(without the color wheel connected) you will now that the color wheel was making the noise. It's definitely possible since the old lamp burst. It might have damaged the color wheel when it happened.

    • @blifix3396
      @blifix3396 9 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your'e quick reply, I did take out the blower fan and nothing is inside, I have indeed isolated the problem to the black boxy looking thing to the left of the lamp which I believe is the color wheel housing, the sound produced is a really high pitched grinding sound kind of like angle grinding, so I think the color wheel itself is grinding against the housing but only when the projector gets up to temperature, and when it is producing the sound and I try to touch the housing, if I bend it a certain way I can get the sound to completly go away, do you have any idea what it could be?@@FixitFrank

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  9 месяцев назад

      there might be a little metal shield between the back of the color wheel and the front of the light tunnel. they can warp from the heat. If the lamp was replaced around when this started, make sure the new lamp has the right IR filter lens. it should have a reddish/blue/purpleish tint to it from certain angles. if its green or clear, thats a problem. that can cause the metal to warp and make that noise.

    MX560,auto shutoff within a minute or so after turning on with temp lamp on..Is it blower fan? There's 2 fans spinning fine...

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  Год назад

      I don't know the fans in that model but almost always that error is a jammed fan. If you can see two axial fans turning them your blower fan is likely the culprit. If a lamp exploded at some point, they throw glass inside the fan and can jam it.

    Hi Frank!
    Is it possible to save changes to the service menu?
    My Viewsonic PX747 had problem with fan 3, I replaced it, it's working fine, 2.5v measured with a multimeter, but the service menu still shows zero rpm. I disabled "Error Check Detection", but this setting returns to default after turning off the projector.

    • @FixitFrank
      @FixitFrank  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hello, 2.5v sounds kind of high to me(if the v+ is 3v). That is a DC measurement of a PWM signal. If the new fan is not the same exact model of the old fan, or at the least it has to use the same stall/rpm reporting as the old fan. Many fans report back the RPM, some only pull low when spinning and then go high on stall. Give this video a look. ruclips.net/video/kCOSQ8dVZvc/видео.html I go over the fan thing a bit more clearly. As far as i know you can't over write many of those values The error check I think is for checking the ram or rom rather than for actual projector errors. Thats the case for optoma at least. I might be wrong on the viewsonic.

      @FixitFrank  10 месяцев назад +1

      ahh, I would put the old sensor back in. Your english is perfectly fine! No need to apologize. Far better than my Portuguese. I'd have to see the fans operating to be sure. It just sounds high to me. I usually see them less than 2V. Ideally using a scope would tell you if the pulses are being outputted or not. One trick to troubleshoot is to run a 4.7K to 10K resistor from the stall monitoring of another fan to the fan in question. If the issue goes away then you know its the fan you are tricking.

      Hi Andrew, double check the alignment and connection to the dmd/dlp chip PCB. Also check to see if you offset the low voltage power pins when reinstalling the main board. If it worked enough when it came apart, it has to be something that isn't quite aligned when it went back together. When this happens to me, I usually start over and take it apart and reassemble things and I will usually find what I missed. The miss alignment of the power pins or dmd riser is the usual cause of that.
