If you can find a river with lots of curves, it's easier float hunting. The more it twists the closer you can get. Also, it's helpful to paddle with a canoe paddle, using the "J" stroke in which you keep the paddle on one side of the boat most of the time. Use a kayak paddle when you need to cover long distance or speed up to get a cripple.
I’m gonna try this next season ,my friends dad told me to brush blind my Colorado Xt and drag a chain to slow down the drift . The brush make you look like a downed tree floating down river .I don’t do videos maybe I’ll get a go p4o .I’m using the inflatable setup because I feel my kayak makes to much noise and the Colorado slips through 1 1/2 Water .great shot on the merganser .keep the videos coming
A few folks have mentioned brushing it in. I think that would be worth a try, I just haven't had time or space to so that recently. I definitely would not drag anything behind me, way too much risk in the winter as is and having something behind you to get snagged on something could create a dangerous situation. Speed is hardly the issue for me, it's getting close enough for a shot without getting busted. Good luck and take a dry bag with clothes and fire starter if you give it a try!
@outdoorrn2980 I will gladly shoot mergs, I'm not too good for them and we aren't in a flyaway so good practice when they provide the chance. Still looking for a good drake for the wall

Unfortunately, all my local rivers are too broad. Makes it hard to get shot opportunities, bu it is still a lot of fun.

Who shoots mergansers? Well, I guess we know now. 😅

Awesome video man!! Subscribed for your epic adventure in this video! I also have the same shotgun, loving it so far!
Still looks like a ton of fun. I’m sure you learned something while in the process. Never a bad day hunting!
Oh for sure, my first year waterfowling so plenty of stuff to learn. That's half of whats makes it fun is figuring a new hobby out
Nice shot. What shotgun shells do you use. ?
Do you paddle back upriver where you started or do you go down river to another pickup spot ?
Was shooting the migration 2/3 blend great shells for ducks. I take out downstream and have someone drop me off so I don't have to leave my vehicle.
That looked more frustrating than fun.
Can't get'em on the couch. Wide rivers aren't an easy hunt jump shooting like that
Where at?
VA
good shot
Rough day, rough conditions. Get back out there and make some more them birds like come
