There are these typists projects that who contact you with a message with their phone number informing you to contact them on WhatsApp. Then in WhatsApp they are asking for your money as insurance fee before giving you the job.
Hi, thank you for sharing this! And yes, new scams are appearing and being tried out all the time. They all have in common the fact that they pray on people that are desperate and need money fast or total beginners who just want their first job as soon as possible. Awful stuff! 2 obvious red flags here (in your example): 1) if they want to talk OUTSIDE the platform and especially if this is the first time they are contacting you; 2) they want some kind of payment upfront when in reality they are the ones who should be paying you for the project expenses in advance (if someone is to EVER be paid in advance, it's the freelancer, not the employer)! Also, as a side note - never automatically accept the project that is awarded to you if it doesn't have (at least) an initial milestone created!
Hi i am contacted right now via whatsapp and to start the project i need to deposit the security fee worth 40$ in their neteller or skrill account. Is this legit?
project fees are not refundable?? but if the client disappear, s/he would loss money as well right. dont they get charged too for creating project? and 1 more question, is the milestone have to be created for all type of project? meaning is there project that do not required milestone. sorry for asking too much, and thanks in advance
Yes! Never accept project without client depositing a milestone first. Client doesn't lose anything by disappearing... That's the worst part of Freelancer.com! So, the milestone system is your main protection! That way the client can't just leave suddenly and take the money. Good news though, this all is changing in the near future. They are already introducing equal rules for employers on hourly projects. Fixed projects are next... Few of my next videos are about changes that are coming soon, so I'll cover everything in depth. 😊
Hi Luka! I meet the same issue, my English not good and waiting for a job, but when I accept, they charged me 10%=75$, this is not small money to me. And He asked me to pay a security fee, I know this is a liar, but I worry about the charged fee, Can I cancel this project? and Must I need to pay this money. Thanks in advance! I am so scared at this time.
Hi! You accepted the project and unfortunately, you most likely won't get that 10% back. ☹️ You can try by contacting Freelancer support and ask them to refund the fee to you and cancel the project. Worth a shot! That's why I say: NEVER accept the project before you are 100% sure the client is legit. This is very important because you pay the project fee upon acceptance. And also, legit and honest clients create milestones as soon as they award you the project... That way you know it's safe to accept it. After you do the work, then they release the milestones to you.
Hi, I'm so happy to help! Thanks for stopping by. 😊 The Milestone Payment system is the recommended mode of paying freelancers on the site. It offers protection to both clients and freelancers by giving equal control over created payments for awarded projects. Using the Milestone Payment System also makes Dispute Resolution Service available to you, which allows contesting the return or release of in progress Milestone Payments. The above is Freelancer.com's official explanation... Now, let me clarify more. The milestone is payment is usually created by the client when he's awarding the project. Milestone amount is automatically funded from the client's verified payment method. Freelancer.com holds that amount until the client decides to release it (after the work is done) or after a dispute (if there is a dispute between you and the client). Now, there are milestone requests... That's when you request from a client to create a milestone. For example, there is more work than initially planned and you request from the client to create another milestone before you continue. Also, there is a request to RELEASE the milestone. That's the moment when you get the money. Freelancer.com releases the funds to you after the client has agreed to release the said funds Freelancer.com is holding them as a "middle-man". So, that's different from a request to CREATE the milestone! As mentioned, while the client CREATES the milestone upon awarding the project, you are (usually!) the one who will send a request to the client for a milestone RELEASE. You do that after you handed over the work and want to be paid. While most clients will release the milestone themselves without you having to do anything, some won't (usually because they're new on the site). Sounds a bit messy and complicated, but in practice, it isn't! Let me know if you have more questions. P.S. Never accept the awarded project before you are certain that the client has created and funded the milestone! Cheers, Luka

i recently took a project and they used whatsapp to contact me then asked me to pay them money to get the project. Is this how it's supposed to work? Am i supposed to pay to get the project?
No, it's a scam! You should NEVER pay anything to the client... He should pay you for the work and that's it! And NEVER communicate outside Freelancer.com. Especially not with someone who is not your trusted client! P.S. Milestones are there to protect you and to ensure that you're paid. NEVER accept the project before you verify that the milestone is created (funded) by the client. Especially because you pay the project fee to Freelancer.com as soon as you accept the project (whether there is a milestone or not).
@@lukaparac Oh god that means i just got scammed... This was my first ever project and I was so absolutely unsure of how everything works. Is there any way i could get a refund? 😭😭
