Loved this! As the daughter of a Chinese father and Taiwanese mother, I think this accurately depicts all the language-related confusion I had growing up. Not only did I have to get used to understanding and speaking with two different accents (depending on which side of the family I was talking to), I always scrambled word choices like 馬鈴薯/土豆, 番茄/西红柿, "lājī"/"ㄌㄜㄙㄜ". This was hilarious!
I love how - without even noticing maybe - our whole body, tone, speed change when we switch languages. I guess, English would be my second language and It kinda gives me a whole other personality. I love how you both start a bit shy but then something clicks and you get a new dynamic. I LOVE IT! ☺️☺️☺️❤️❤️❤️
It may be true! I'm very passionate and honest when I'm speaking English when I hardly ever show so much emotion when I'm speaking Persian (my first language). It may have something to do with the culture or the environment in which I've been raised.
Kevin seems to be more talkative speaking in mandarin! Also, for some reason, his voice suits the language well.. so natural haha Love this video Miki :) You guys are so cute!
Pretty impressive, I must say. Also it’s clear Miki’s mandarin has the Taiwanese accent influence while Kevin’s mandarin has the mainlanders rolling of his tongue (even tho Shanghainese don’t roll their tongue as much as the northerners). Both of your parents would be proud of your Chinese. Make sure you pass that down to the next generation.

I hope to be better someday, and watching you do this has inspired me to keep going! I'd love to see more videos like this in the future too!
I loved this - it brought me so much comfort as a fellow Taiwanese 🇹🇼. I also died laughing when they both started reciting the poem! I grew up going to Chinese school in the Bay Area and feel it was a right of passage for every child to memorize the poem. I drink Yakult Miki’s way cause I usually can’t peel it and end up peeling the small tab off by accident anyways. 😅

Really intriguing to see how the language that we use in our daily communication affects how we structure the way we speak for other languages. For example, at 0:22 when Kevin said 我爸爸妈妈也说中文在家里 which translate to my parents speak Mandarin at home which is how one would deliver the sentence grammatically in English. However, in Mandarin, it will usually be phrased as 我爸爸妈妈在家里都说中文. Personally, I face this issue a lot when I converse in English where in my head it feels like I am translating my thoughts in another language to English and usually the grammar comes out weird.

There was definitely some haha or lol moments in this video too...please do another video only speaking in Mandarin!
