That's very interesting, and I don't know if I read that anywhere. I was thinking that the fort stood on top of the mounds. And also, thank you so much for the interview today, that was very kind of you!
I was there a few days ago, better weather than you had. The pack was of small barking dogs that greeted me when I parked at the sign kept me from checking out the granite monument to the work of the slaves or seeing the fort. Thank you for the video!
Oh I'm sorry to hear that the dogs prevented you from seeing everything. Did you not try to park on the side in that field - and walk across the bridge?
Thank you for sharing this with us. I love chasing history. Lincoln is my 2nd favorite president, George Washington is my 1st. Anyhow, this is great to see. It puts a different perspective on our own lives we lead today. ❤
@travelwithoutacause Don't stop. Keep doing this bc the world is watching, and many of our young generation don't know their real history, but if more ppl did more videos like this, I truly think it would make a difference. Again, thank you.
@travelwithoutacause yeah Bubba that's like our folk lure in avoyelles we all do it as teens you can hear chains being drug thru the leaves in the woods. The story for that first grave in that fence is the lady was a witch. I don't know the lady or her family so I mean no disrespect it's just the story.
It was actually constructed as an earthen works fort. The mounds that you are seeing are the walls of the Fort.

I absolutely love civil war history. But tragic so many men died. The south was so different before that. Good job matt.
Thank you so much! Yes it was definitely an unfortunate time in American history, especially with Americans fighting Americans.
Outstanding video! We'll done.
Hey thank you so much! I enjoyed that one very much
Richard Lowe’s book “Walker’s Texas Division C.S.A. Greyhounds of the Trans-Mississippi” has a dozen pages on this battle. Worth the read.
