Artists In Gwaii Haanas - Jason Goetzinger

Multidisciplinary artist Jason Goetzinger grew up in Daajing Giids, Haida Gwaii and lives in the village of HlGaagilda Skidegate with his family, where he has practiced in the disciplines of painting, drawing, sculpture and jewellery for the last 28 years. He works in a variety of mediums including acrylic and oil on canvas, ink, charcoal and dry pastel on paper, wood, stone, bone, found objects and precious metals.
Working in genres from realism to abstraction, Jason’s work focuses mainly on human psychology where he examines what it means to be human, why we do what we do and what impact our behavior has on the world around us. Within this main theme he explores how our thoughts and actions relate to more specific topics such as the environment, geo-political relationships, consumerism, time and mortality.
