Harden is a master at throwing off-timing passes. He waits a second more before throwing entry passes off PnR's and that second opens up the field so much more. Kobe did a little documentary where he praised this aspect of Harden.

For my money, James Harden is the most talented offensive player in NBA history. He’s not the best scorer (even though I put his 2015-16 through 2019-2020 up there with anyone’s absolute peak), he probably isn’t the best passer, but his ability to bookend his 3 scoring titles with 2 assist titles (with a high probability to add more assist titles) is just jaw dropping. Everyone hated him for how he drew fouls, and didn’t take into consideration that where one guy flops, James used the rule book to his advantage and caught every reaching defender’s arm he could on drives to the basket to secure an and one. Everyone hated his step back, it was just him using the rule book to his advantage, using the gather step to its full potential. He’s just one of the smartest, most resourceful, and most talented players we have ever seen.

Luka is getting the phrase that Harden should have gotten but all the media does is paint narratives and now the Clippers are playing well, all of a sudden no more headlines about Harden.

been hearing harden lines all year it was boring, it was about time they started talking about something else, luka and harden have a very similar playstyle and i imagine theyll have a very similar career, ie ringless and narratives of " not being able to win a chip, he played with kyrie he had help etc, hes a baby always trying to get foul calls " just recycling the same garbage but with a different play

    • @MistaWordz

They have similar play styles the same way as MJ and Kobe do. One is obviously better than the other. Luka is the upgraded Harden 2.0 that doesn't have to rely on free throws and rule bending to score.

@MistaWordz nah, you're wildin, Harden took the prime Warriors 7 games, and Luka got gentleman swept by the Warriors, so wouldn't the 2.0 v be able to beat them, not do worse? Luka benefits from the whistle just as much, if not more, than Harden did.

I watched some Clippers game live. Those passes from Harden can catch you off guard even as an audience. Like, where the heck did he pass it to and how the heck did his teammate able to even catch it and score it. Especially those coast to coast passes. Harden just passes the so casually making it easy.

Any time he sees the back of a defenders head the ball is already on its way.
They get 1-2 easy baskets over the top to kawhi/pg vs toplocks a night.
Zu’s “hands” have also been much less of a talking point bc Harden has established a good cadence with him and knows how to deliver him a softer ball that he can handle.

I'm not going to argue about James Harden the Player--to be fair, I do believe he still has something left in the tank (whatever in there). I wasn't really hot on the trade to begin with (because the Clips were a very deep team before Hardin). Getting Russ was a gift. Then here come Harden, riding that big ego. But have you noticed (this just hit me), this is a team of superstar league OUTCAST: starting with Kawhi--an outcast from the Spurs. Paul George from Indiana; Russ from the Lakers and finally, James from Philly.
I'm telling you: there's something strange going on here... This team seem to be like one of those Hollywood redemption movie. And the players--especally their superstars--seem to be thriving (It like they're being reborn). Maybe that's a stretch, but there something special about these four superstar Clips. Am I seeing things, or is there some transformation even going on with Harden (is he really reeling in that whale size ego). Did I really see him trying to play some "D" in these last couple of games? Lastly I'll say this, if James fully invest in the Clips' way of play (barring any major injuries to key players), this team is built to win it all.
