Yeh another oilers fan here. I agree , I get a lot of my oilers content here . But I do also recommend the cult of hockey’s oilers podcast by David Staples, Bruce McCurdy and Kurt Leavins 👍
The issue Jiricek is having is he’s been sent down multiple times this year, maybe 3 times now? Yet he has played a grand total of 4 games in the AHL. The team calls him back up too quickly and when they do they give him 3rd pairing minutes mixed in with far too many healthy scratches. If you don’t think he’s ready for big minutes in the NHL then keep him in the minors and stop jerking him around. They are mismanaging him by not even allowing him to get into a rhythm at all. The team is dog water and they needed to start selling pieces yesterday. The front office in Columbus is a joke to put it lightly and the faster they admit the Jarmo era is over the faster guys like Jiricek, Fantilli, Johnson etc. can finally breath some fresh air into a devoted fanbase that deserves something to look forward to.
So much of Jacques Martin's job is about undoing all the bad habits from the previous coach. It's taken them a while, but the results are showing in the play. They're clearly on the path to becoming a more structured team. It's not Jacques fault that he's getting .865 sv% goaltending. Suggesting he's worse than DJ Smith is ridiculous and a sign that you're just not paying any actual attention (which is fine, but makes you look stupid when you have strong takes). 5-3-2 in the last ten, and the numbers show they're significantly better than they've been all season. Can't buy a save. Not on Jacques
I think you put the league office in Regina, SK - no team bias, central-ish location so you can work both the late and early games, and cheaper to run than a Toronto location.
Is it classed as a good thing that more and more players are using the player assistance program? Meaning it's tough that you got in a space to need it but it's also great that they're able to admit that they need help
At some point, as this program is used again and again it will be in the back of players' minds that it's there for them. That it itself might lend them some strength.
As long as it genuinely helping guys, not the best track record for guys after the program. But if more guys try it and there are more positive storylines coming out of it it will change the negative stigma about it.
Oilers fans are upset because on Hockey Night in Canada after winning the 16th Game they had to sit for 30 minutes of Toronto coverage without the Hockey Night crew mentioning the just finished game. Then they went on the TSN and SN websites and saw the top story on both webpages was a Leafs game story about Austin Matthews.
oilers fans got a well justified minority complex. Just see, how arrogant the sdpn guys are for throwing them a bone last few weeks ^^ Kidding, haha - well not, but it's a complex situation :)
Every fanbase having a good season demands this and it’s very funny. Maybe the team they root for should win… the thing they compete for at the end of the season. I honestly don’t understand how anyone could care. I never think-not for a single second-about the coverage of the team I watch. People really need to log off, go outside, have an existential crisis, etc.
I think Oilers fans were actually out celebrating because their team won 16 straight lmfao you're telling me your team wins 16 straight and you're looking at the news??? Okayyyyy😂
This is nonsense. Korpisalo and Forsberg are good enough goaltenders. Sorry, Jacquest has DONE NOTHING. He's useless. Blaming goaltenders just like Shark Jose Sharks and Edmonton Oilers. Real reason is the defence and horrible coaching. And for your information blue line shots can be the most difficult to stop if defence isn't doing enough so Goaltender can see it all the way and do the save.
Jesse's point about goaltending during the Ottawa segement is spot on. Some perspective from a stars fan. Jake Ottenger, was injured on Dec 15th (and shortly after their number 1 D-man), and the stars rode their backup Wedgewood for 11 straight games and they played the 3rd string goalie once while jake was out. and while there were some bad nights, wedge performed pretty well overall his numbers weren't pretty but he kept them in games and gave the guys a chance to win. It takes more than goaltending to win or lose a hockey game.
With the sens, Jacque had a uphill battle to try and fix the team. Our structure been horrendous under DJ and its starting to show. Unfortunately goaltending hasn't help a lot. Not all on them but some of those goals they want back. I like the job Jacque doing and i hope the hockey tendencies he instilled, will stay with the core for the next season
That comeback win last night against the preds was a massive showing of what their play can look like. I agree it's a been a slow process and all it takes is one bad period of regression to lose a game. 2 periods of structure and a spirited OT got them a massive win. I was proud of them!!
These guys clearly don't watch Sens game, which is totally fine, I'm not expecting them to. But to even suggest DJ Smith is a better coach than Martin, or that the team is playing worse, is utterly ridiculous. Look at last night! The last time the Sens pulled the goalie and then won a game while trailing (before last night), was 2017!! They are playing so much better now, but they still have a ways to go of course
Not loving the Ottawa takes on this episode. First, Martin was originally hired as an advisor to DJ's staff as an attempt to address the obvious lack of defensive structure in the team. He was promoted to interim head coach because he was already in the building and is a specialist in the area that needed the biggest improvement. The team has played noticably better since Martin has taken over (the impact wasn't immediate but he also didn't get a practice with the team until a few games in to his tenure, plus a western road trip). Had a 5 game point streak leading up to the Rangers game. Traditional & advanced goaltending stats tell a very clear story and until that position is steadied, conversations about a lack of overall improvement in the team will be pointless.
Yeah, assists are a reasonably big deal in both basketball and soccer. Not as big as goals (soccer) or points (basketball), but Adam went a little too far on that argument.
Guys, the Sens had a stinker on Saturday, no question. But they had points in 5 straight games before said stinker. And they forced a pair of Top 10 teams into OT within a week. The results aren't coming as fast as people want. They probably won't be delivered in time to save the season. It's better than what they were in December and early-January. If they beat Nashville and Detroit, that's a small win streak and points in 7 of the last 8 games going into the All-Star Break. To me, they are starting to get the swagger back. But I get why people talk about the losses more than the wins - because Ottawa shouldn't be in this position. But they are. And now they have to get out of it.
As a Montreal fam, I really hope they do get out of it but honestly it might be in your best interest to not. Because if they’re able to pick one of the offensive weapons in the draft. Their prospect pool is refilled quite a bit.

Being the GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets is always your last job as GM, but not necessarily your last job in hockey. The Blue Jackets spent big on a bunch of key players and hoped that everything would just work out and there wouldn't be any chemistry issues and everyone would play awesome. It's an all right way to add to an existing core of players, but a bad way to build a team core.
Would love for you guys to share your thoughts on the Bedard/Wemby video at some point. Wemby is so interesting and emotive and Connor is just so reserved, feels like a little microcosm of the NBA/NHL dichotomy right now. Would've loved to see more from Connor in that video if it was a way folks at the NHL were trying to pull NBA fans into the league.
I watch every sens game. They are playing a lot better under JM. But somehow the goalies have gotten worse. The goalies are absolutely terrible. I’m not blaming the goalies because blaming goalies is easy. But holy sh*t man. These goalies can’t stop shots from the outside, they’re out of position. Besides the rangers game, the sens defense has been phenomenal, allowing 20 outside shots but still allowing 4+
The “glowed” discussion had me dying 😂 the past tense of glow is definitely glowed but it seems weird for sure. I’ve always loved how the English language can put its speakers into a blender at any moment lmao
I'm an oilers fan. Your guy coverage been good. I have no complaints about lack of coverage. The only thing that annoyed me was the people that 1x wins in a row was nothing because of who we faced.
Guys. Jacque Martin was only signed as an interim head coach. Also, people were dogging on Cam Talbot while he was with the Sens and is now killing it with the Kings.
I need a Corey Perry content warning. In the sams way programs warn about explicit or triggering content. I am now rooting against any Oiler success in the playoffs!
Jesse, remember Gaudreau's old contract that Treliving signed, the 21-22 season was the final year in that "5 team trade list" contract. For the Flames, Gaudreau had to be traded prior to July1st of 21-22 season if they were going to get something for Gaudreau. That's Treliving's baby, he should have known to have traded him prior to that year.
36:30 Chychrun has already has came out and said that he wants to be a Senator and all the talk otherwise is made up BS. That doesn't mean he'll remain a Senator. It's between him and Chabot being shown the door as their left side on defense is too stacked and trading one of those two would fill in holes elsewhere in the line-up.
The nascar show was great watched the whole 5 episodes in one night. My biggest complaint with it however though was it was mainly focused a lot on one team because they gave them the most access over other teams lol
Steve makes the Flames sound like Leaf fans on the HFBoards trade rumour forum. They're going to trade for everyone, trade away everyone and sign everyone. All at the same time!
Steve....I think Morgan Reilly's positioning on that first goal threw Sammy off. Not the best goal, but not totally on Sammy as MR needs to be better aware of his positioning in relation to the goalie.
These guys HATTTEEEEE having to talk abt the oilers. Not to mention they both mess up game winning goals and call the wrong players (Foegele and McLeod) and THEN they mention Michael McLeod as a part of the WJC 5, but they call him RYAN McLeod come on boys, either a distain and bias, or some weak ass research... if you don't want to talk abt other teams then don't. If you wish to cover the league, be better.
46:20, Respectfully, that is bs and you know it, it would get covered 200x as hard if Toronto was the team on the 16 game winstreak, Campbells goalie record was covered way more then the Oilers are right now.
Martin was brought in to finish out the year before looking for their coach in the summer. The sales process really hampered them so andlauer and staois couldn’t get their guys. Martin is also there to break them of their bad habits caused under DJ and they are starting to figure it out lately. Rangers game was an outlier from even the past 2 weeks
Wow so I showed some evidence of Sportsnet bias towards Toronto how there is barely any article about the oilers, only Mark Spector talks about them, while on TSN there are videos and articles from multiple TSN commentators and my comment was deleted. Just goes to show you how fragile of an ego you must have to be shown the truth and instead decide to erase the comment instead of realizing that there is some bias.
Does anyone at this point believe a single word of the Corey Perry was fired by Chicago because of alcohol? He didn't go into the player assistance program, and it seems all of the players that have gone into the player assistance program, for various reasons, recently haven't had to have a special meeting with Buttman to play in the league again.
How many times would a shot go in on it's own but someone barely redirects it with their stick? This is why assists have to hold more weight in hockey than other sports
Calling a Canucks win over Edmonton in round 1 is a bit silly, Vancouver are so far out in front they’ll get to absolutely stomp St Louis or LA. Jets, Canucks and Oilers though, great chance of at the very least, a Canadian Stanley cup participant with them stacking the deck in the West
Maybe. The Canucks haven't had a slump yet, pretty rare for a team to go an entire season without any sort of slump Oilers and Van won't be playing in the 1st round. Oilers will be taking 2nd jn the Pacific
They can't call the Myers penalty. That's like saying... it's OK for the police to plant evidence and lie under oath to put a bad guy behind bars. Not how it works. The process matters. You can't make up rules if your entire job is to enforce the rules.
The tyler myers call was so dumb. Hes so tall (6'8 btw) that he turns around while hitting the boards that his elbow is at eveyone elses head level by nature. It was not intentional in the slightest since he didnt even see him when hitting him
@bgone8854 the man had several inference calls because players skated into him from outside field of view and fell over. I suppose thats his fault as well?
As far as the Myers call, and I don't think it was really clearly commented on. Is it okay for the league to violate it's rulebook to 'get it right' on Myers?
The New Jersey Devils, the Ottawa Senators, the Calgary Flames and the Philadelphia Flyers ALL HIRED PLAYERS THEY KNEW HAD SEXUALLY ASSAULTED a young woman and let them play FOR FIVE YEARS. Why has there been no scrutiny of their willingness to overlook those players history? All the Hockey Canada press releases have started scrubbing the names of the teams who hired the players that Hockey Canada paid out settlements on. Clearly they are still trying to limit damage on this story. Let's have some talk about that.
I mean, if you think about it, the only thing a QB does is make assists and it's the most celebrated position in American football. PS. I would also like to point out that Matthews is damn near a goal a game player and the Leafs are barely over .500
Hey somebody should remind Drew, that in order for what he calls a teddy bear contender team (Oilers) to lose in the first round to the Vancouver Canucks they would have to be In the last wild card position... and it seems to me as of today the oil are 5 points ahead of the 2nd spot with 3 games in hand... Maybe it's time you brush up on how NHL playoff seeding works before you throw bombs 🤦🏽🤣
I love how rhe Oilers are a teddy bear contender despite having decent playoff runs...but this clown thinks the Canucks are lock for contender despite making the playoffs once in 7 years. Morons like this are going to be shocked when the Canucks get blown out in the 1st round

@@markiv2942 last 10 games under Martin they are 2nd in xGF%, 2nd in xGF/60, 4th in xGA/60 and 30th in SV% (at 5v5). Seems like a team that has turned the corner to me and is playing much better overall, but especially on the defensive end.
If you have actual data and info to back up that defensive play is still the issue, then go for it. Otherwise, you’re the effing joke and just repeating lazy narratives instead.
Wait, you can’t compare the SB prices to the NHL ASG prices. You got to compare the NHL ASG prices to the pro bowl.
Big content week! LETS GO!
one tweet and takes the opportunity to make the oilers segment about the leafs ;P
Perry have josh Anderson stick since the final cup
I love the sass that Drew provides
Drew sucks
@@tronnoadam You know what, you're right. Consider my whole world view changed. Thanks for saving me.

Lol. Don't cry too much when the Chiefs crush them again
KC isn't going to hand them the game like GB and DET did
just to add to the netflix conversation - they've also just a couple days ago done one with the Six Nations rugby tournament!
Steve are the Calgary Flames in the room with you right now
A Toronto Maple Leafs Fan getting upset about coverage and speculation of another team is…..interesting? Is interesting the word?
adam must be real mad about the 4 times jagr won the art ross and didn't get the hart.
I can’t believe Adam’s mom is going to be a guest at the event. 😂
As an American, I have no idea who she is other than Adam's mom.
@jeffe2267 she had her own day time talk show in Canada for a very long time.

Are we allowed to step foot into the Rec Room on Friday even if we don't have tickets?
36:30 Chychrun has already has came out and said that he wants to be a Senator and all the talk otherwise is made up BS. That doesn't mean he'll remain a Senator. It's between him and Chabot being shown the door as their left side on defense is too stacked and trading one of those two would fill in holes elsewhere in the line-up.
The Avs routinely allow 3 on like 25 shots but win anyway
The amount of stupid that comes from Adam's mouth makes me question how he remembers to breath.
Getting kind of used to every, and I mean EVERY, take from Adam being the single worst take on any given subject.
I cant believe you guys haven't been talking about the Oilers.......like come on guys ;)
I can't believe you guys didn't talk about NOT TALKING ABOUT the Oilers.
The nascar show was great watched the whole 5 episodes in one night.
My biggest complaint with it however though was it was mainly focused a lot on one team because they gave them the most access over other teams lol
Jackets goaltender against Vancouver played pretty well even being frustrated with his team
Corey Perry has used a Josh Anderson stick since the playoff run in Montreal, he switched to it because it felt better then his old style
Steve makes the Flames sound like Leaf fans on the HFBoards trade rumour forum. They're going to trade for everyone, trade away everyone and sign everyone. All at the same time!
ALLSTAR WEEK!⭐️
Steve....I think Morgan Reilly's positioning on that first goal threw Sammy off. Not the best goal, but not totally on Sammy as MR needs to be better aware of his positioning in relation to the goalie.
Oh damn Marilyn coming is unreal. She’s a Toronto Icon.
Have to give the Leafs credit for showing some moxie lately. Their season was really teetering on going off the rails
34:14 always love a Survivor mention
Adam AHH Adam UMM!!!! Keep them coming!!!
Was waiting for the Drew meltdown when they said "McDavid" should have won over Hall for the Hart that year.
The guys have McDavid blinders on most of the time, tbh. Is he great? Yes. Is he the greatest and no other shall be considered? No.
Steve is right. They made an amendment to rescind 5 minute majors all together.
Brass rail is a great experience
Adam, as always, is exactly right. Pick a topic, I don't care. Don't @ me.
Damn I can’t believe I’m missing a live show with Alannis
How many times would a shot go in on it's own but someone barely redirects it with their stick? This is why assists have to hold more weight in hockey than other sports
Calling a Canucks win over Edmonton in round 1 is a bit silly, Vancouver are so far out in front they’ll get to absolutely stomp St Louis or LA.
Jets, Canucks and Oilers though, great chance of at the very least, a Canadian Stanley cup participant with them stacking the deck in the West
Maybe. The Canucks haven't had a slump yet, pretty rare for a team to go an entire season without any sort of slump
Oilers and Van won't be playing in the 1st round. Oilers will be taking 2nd jn the Pacific
MCDavid is not lighting it up this regular season.
That is reserved for the playoffs this year.
It was not intentional in the slightest since he didnt even see him when hitting him
Yeh likd a high stick penalty you have to be responsible for your elbows lol
@bgone8854 the man had several inference calls because players skated into him from outside field of view and fell over. I suppose thats his fault as well?
Guys what do you think Philly's goaltending is going to be like, without Hart ???
1:28:02 LMAO WHAT!!!
GLOWED
Glowed.
Turns out Lamar Jackson wasn't quarterbacky enough after all.
Love the Stone Cold reference!
What!?
Drew asking questions like this is a press briefing makes me think that the presser should be handed to the producer instead of Jessie
The less Drew in these podcasts the better
Adam....the number in brackets is NOT for distance! Yikes.
I mean... It snowed. You could have rowed a boat. So yeah, glowed
I mean, if you think about it, the only thing a QB does is make assists and it's the most celebrated position in American football.
PS. I would also like to point out that Matthews is damn near a goal a game player and the Leafs are barely over .500
Honestly right now it feels like Vancouver is the current enemy lol. I don't care I'm just enjoying watching my team win.
"Faces that glowed red with the cold"
My pennace for bandwagoning in the NFL is being a Jackets fan
OMG Jesse you have no idea how much Western Canadian hockey fans hate the leafs and Toronto with a blind rage. Logic be damned.
You're expecting Leafs fans to be knowledgeable?
Really?
I love how rhe Oilers are a teddy bear contender despite having decent playoff runs...but this clown thinks the Canucks are lock for contender despite making the playoffs once in 7 years.
