I work as a psychotherapist in Germany and here there are 4 approaches that are "official", i. e. financed by the public health service. You have to choose the one you want to specialize in and practice later. I'm a CBTist but find it quite limiting sometimes. Same for the other 3 approaches (psychoanalysis, psychodynamic and systemic therapy). I would prefer a so-called integrative therapy which combines all the knowledge, methods, insights etc. from all the therapeutic approaches. I have to look into the Human Givens approach you mentioned at the end. Thank you for this insightful video.

Perhaps you should consider trying science. SC pointed out and does the science shows call therapy has an overall negative effect.. probably because it is based in nonsense. The same with at least two of the others.
If you have to define you're supposed to medical treatment as an ideology with an IST behind it.. it is not science-based

Thank you for this informative and interesting video! wish to point out that ancient Indian mythology does make a mention of "Words that heal" or "Words of wisdom", the ancient Indian Hindu book "Bhagwat Gita" is all about how "Lord Krishna" counselled his disciple "Prince Arjun" to motivate him.

This is a very odd potted history of 'how the mind works'. For example, Mark manages to completely ignore the Judeo-Christian tradition in regard to the mind, which is embodied in that tradition. Bizarre!

Extremely helpful summary of the history of psychology/therapy that explains how the field has evolved over time and what is most helpful to people now. Thank you!

You are far more educated and thoughtful than 99% of your field seemed to be.
The problem is right now in psychology there is a war between actual scientists add pseudoscientist s. And the pseudoscientists have the power because they're the ones breaking in all the money. Most therapy is talk therapy at the science shows that talk therapy has an overall negative effect on it's patient Base. No one wants their Golden goose killed..
Until the actual scientists manage to take over most of psychology is simply credentialed guruism sold to the public as medicine. At Wendy professions still allows people to push lobotomy, electroshock add allow people who called themselves Freudians jungians etc to practice it is neither science nor medicine

Brilliant video. I am no psychologist, but I have my own deamons.
I have found that most (not all) psychologists are wounded healers.
My favourite historical person regarding psychology is Carl Jung.
I'm fairly sure he mentions the archetype of the wounded healer. And that people's dark sides/ shadows are 1/2 of the person we aren't usually in contact with.
    Again Brilliant video.

My psychiatrist and psychologist both diagnosed me with complex PTSD and recurrent depression. I've been seeing them both for over a year, and I've been on antidepressants for over two years. Nothing seems to help, not even CBT. I'm thinking of trying psychedelic therapy, specifically micro-doses of either MDMA or psybicilin (i.e. magic mushrooms). I'm interested to know your thoughts on psychedelic therapy for PTSD and recurrent depression.

A great holistic or I would say a history of psychotherapy in synchrony with scientific and intellectual development is a great effort. Precise and comprehensive
