I think Carly may be the leverage Cates has over Jason. She briefly took over Sonny's business after they all thought he died. Jason probably refused her invite to stay with her so that this secret doesn't end up getting revealed to her through proximity. Otherwise, there'd be no reason he couldn't stay at her house.

The reality is that the love that they have for each other is all consuming and it’s really unfair for anyone else involved because no matter what they might say out their mouths, when they are in relationships with other people, their actions will always show that nothing matters more to them than each other. Jason can literally imagine his life without everyone except Carly. Why would you want them paired with anyone but each other?
