I was diagnosed with Type II Rosacea about 15 years ago. It took me several years to realize that my foaming cleanser was killing my skin. Now, I know that two things will cause a flare up - not washing my face before bed and/or using a detergent-based cleanser. Purity is pretty much the only thing that soothes my skin back to normal (Rosacea Normal, of course) after a flare up. And, as you say, I don't wash with anything but warm water in the morning. I used to be an overwasher. My skin would inflame from time to time and became extra sensitive. One of the times when I got an all over bad flare up, the dermatologist told me to stop using foaming cleansers. Being a person thinking I have the oiliest skin, it was a hard switch. But it was the best thing I have done for my face. I discovered non foaming face cleansers 3 years ago and it was a revelation for me, it changes everything as they don't strip your face off. My skin is combo, sensitive, dehydrated with seborrheic dermatitis and everything is in order now since I changed my cleanser, it makes such a huge difference ! In the morning I only use a toner, I used to wash in the morning too but my dermatologist convinced me to stop.

I've been following you for two/three months and I'm learning that consistency and fewer products spread at random are the perfect combo. Here in the deep north of Italy the cold that makes you sick hasn't arrived yet, so for the moment I'm coping well with autumn, thanks to your precious videos 💙 and my wallet thanks you very much too
Loved your demo, and turns out, I wash my face exactly the same way as you do. I bought two huge packs of bamboo microfiber wash clothes for babies and use those to wash my face like you did. The wash clothes for babies are extra soft. In the morning I dampen a new baby washcloth with water wipe my face with that. It even removes the Vaseline that I use sometimes to seal in my nighttime serums, moisturizer.
@@Redeemed-10 I ordered from Amazon and the brand is HipHop Panda. They do a great job of cleansing my face, and they also come out like new in the laundry. They come in a pack of 6 or pack of 30, multiple colors to choose from. I first bought a pack of 6, then after experiencing how great they are, immediately ordered a 30 pack.
I really enjoyed this video. I've noticed how much better my face looks and feels simply by slowing down and working the cleanser in. I definitely have to follow your lead on the wiping instead of rinsing because I usually end up soaked. Sleeves, chest, bathroom...
I stopped washing with cleanser when I wake up years ago - that and changing my pillowcases daily made a huge difference. Another weird thing I do is I work overnight so I reverse my skincare. I go to bed as soon as I get home, so I apply my skincare like retinol when I wake up, before work. Otherwise, I'd just lose most of my skincare to my pillowcase. I only see sun on my way home (rising sun) and apply sunscreen before leaving work, then wash my face with cleanser when I get home and follow up with a light moisturizer so it soaks in before going to bed.
Take off your shirt (or wear a short sleeve) , lean over the tub (if you have one), and wash your face from the tub faucet. I’ve been doing this for over 30 years! Water goes in the tub instead of all over your sink.
I stopped 'washing' my face when I was 14. Started to use Ponds Cold Cream and tissue. Then, in the shower, hot water as a rinse. I personally don't care for Micellar water. Then toner when I'm out, vitamin e for my eyes and moisturizer for the rest and done. 40 years.
Holy cow! I seriously had no idea THIS is the way to wash your face! This makes a lot of sense and I extra appreciate the water efficiency. 🙌🏽 Thank you for sharing this with your little needs. ❤

This is a technique I’ve used for many years & have recently gotten my daughter on board. You are so right regarding this method of cleansing. I know my face is clean & it feels so good when I apply my night sleeping cream. ❤
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! I really didn't know that I don't need to wash my face in the morning!!! I'm the one that didn't know how to wash my face and this video is perfect!!! Thank you so much!!!
I wash my face in the shower as the last step, after washing/conditioning my hair, & using soap on my body. I put some warm water on my hands, turn away from the shower head, rub my hands together to emulsify/activate the cleanser, then rub it on my damp face, after a few minutes of massaging the cleanser into my face, I use the shower head to wash the cleanser residue (I have a water softener) off my face. Afterwards, I dry off, & after using deodorant & getting dressed (I do it all quick, having my clothes picked out beforehand), I then use toner, followed by moisturizer. Afterwards, I’m done.
You're such a doll, you're so easy to listen to ☺️✌🏾. My 29 y.o. daughter told me not to use cleanser EVERY morning, so I alternate with plain H2O, and I like it. I do use the Elemis or e.l.f. cleansing Balms, though bc they're lovely, don't dry my skin or leave residue in my eyes 👍🏾. Thanks for the great tips 😀 ✌🏾
You are just such a pleasure to watch. I basically do exactly what you do except stand at the sink and do all the splashing and end up with water everywhere. Thanks for the new way of cleansing my face. Will definitely be trying it!
I use Vanicream Gentle Facial cleanser in the morning. I do a quick gentle cleanse, but every time I’ve tried to skip using a cleanser in the morning I get a pimple or two. I don’t use many products in my evening routine but when I wake up in the morning my face feels sticky, I must sweat in my sleep.
No matter how tired I am I wash and scrub my face. No morning wash. I then tone with a spray of rosewater. I also exfoliate once a week including the decollete and the sides of neck....my skin looks like glass. The products are not expensive.😊
I have oily skin, so not cleansing my face in the morning, isn’t going to work for me. I use miscellar water on a mini reusable “makeup eraser” pad and wipe that across my face… then I splash my face with lukewarm water 2-3x and pat dry with a clean small microfiber towel, before applying my morning skincare, sunscreen and makeup. At night, I do a double cleanse using a cleansing balm, which I wipe off with a DRY small “makeup eraser” pad. (I have 2 sizes… mini and small, for different cleansing needs.) I splash a bit of water onto my face and then massage a gentle cleanser onto the skin. Then I use another small “makeup eraser” - this time wet - to wipe off the cleanser and then I splash my face with lukewarm water 2-3x and then dry it with a clean microfiber towel, before applying my nighttime skincare.
Thank you! Since you told us nerds this a while back, I only do water wash in the am and it has def helped my skin. On another note, I just have to commend you a million percent on your absolutely amazing customer service with Pillow Talk Derm! I had a situation and you guys were amazing. Thanks you 🙏🙏
Hello! I’m Japanese. While I was watching this video, I found that there is a difference between your way and Japanese way to wash face. In Japan, it is said that rubbing face is not good for skin because the friction will occur some skin damages in the future. For example, increasing wrinkles, losing elasticity, and getting pores open. Dermatologists, beauty specialists and beauty magazines highly recommend NOT to rub the face skin when you cleanse your face, when you wipe with towel, and when you apply the skincare products. I don’t have any harm to you at all, I love your videos and I respect you so much. I really appreciate you because your advice and recommendations are so helpful which products to choose. I just would like to share the difference about rubbing while washing face. If you would like to know more about the frictionless skincare in Japan, there is a famous dermatologist, “TOMORI ARATA”. It would be great if her videos are interesting for you. Thank you always.
I was actually going to comment the same thing. She lost me at rubbing. & it was not just dab dab. It was pretty aggressive 😂 I feel like alot of derms think that’s forbidden. It’s interesting because she doesn’t use paper towel either. I saw a RUclipsr who uses towel like paper towels because bacteria doesn’t adhere to it, you can just toss it. Not environment friendly but eh. But I don’t have an MD so what do I know. She looks like lady Gaga though & is beautiful.
I always get shocked when I watch westerners treat their skin so harshly, her face was all red. I use the Japanese double cleansing method (oil cleanser and then hydrating foam wash) and never use towels on my skin to not get any bacteria on it or irritate it. I gently wipe of the water, let it air dry for a bit and then use a hydrating toner when it's damp.
Thank you for posting this. I’ve just shared it to my 12 and 13yo sons as despite how many times I’ve told/showed them, it may just stick in their brains if it’s not their own mother trying to teach them 😂 ❤
Kids/teens most ppl who don't put on makeup even if oily do not need to wash their face every single day. Eating right also helps. That oil on our face/whole body is the delicate natural barrier that protects our skin.
Planetary towels: Sort those towels by Renaissance planetary colors for the planets of the day: Sun: Yellow Monday: white or gray (moon) Tuesday: red (Mars) Wed: orange (Mercury) Thurs: purple or blue (Jupiter) Fri: green (Venus) Sat: black (Saturn)
This is always so useful. I would also stress the importance to keep clean bed pillows covers on a very regular basis. Merci chere Shereene, c'est toujours super.
Haha i m so glad i gave up washing my face in the morning too😂😂thanks to a coreean girl on youtube. My skin was so irritated and i tried what she said ,to skip the morning face cleanser.Voila! My skin recovered after 1 day.If i knew it before,i will not harmed my face but whatever, better later than never! So the dr Idriss is right about DO NOT WASH YOUR FACE IN THE MORNING WITH CLEANSER.Your skin will thank you!
I would love a video on what we can use for our skin during pregnancy/breastfeeding. I feel like I'm doing nothing for my skin (except basic wash, basic moisturizer and mineral sunscreen) this will be at least 5 years of my 30s and I feel like I'm wasting important years of anti-aging.
I use those wrist cuffs , I love them no running water down my arms. Maybe yours are too big. I also wash my face like you , it’s the only way to get super clean skin and eye makeup off. 😊
Love your style and the sense of humor 😊 and the fact you are efficient with your time and that of your viewers; there are some derm influences out there who like to drone on and repeat themselves. I am a busy professional myself in her 50s and love your videos
Questions: 1. Do I follow the same process in the morning when washing my face with water? 2. If I stayed indoors and did not apply make-up or sunscreen, do I need to double cleanse? Thank you for your helpful videos and looking forward to hear from you.
Love this routine. Esp for sensitive rosacea prone skin. The “Day of the Week” microfiber towels are the best! After washing I use hypochlorous acid spray. And in morning too. Do a video on this please. When did this appear on the market?
In the Netherlands we have 'washandjes', which are like wash-mittens. Basically like your little towels, but then with 3 closed edges so you can stick your hand in for better control.
love this video! i'm a super oily person so i compromise by using as little cleanser as i can in the AM (my pores get clogged if i don't) and i shower at night so i wash my hair, face, and body with no wet sleeves involved 😅 but to each their own!
For me I have to wash my face in the morning…just a quick sweep of a cotton pad and micellar water. I always rinse with water afterwards (residue of the miscellar water on my skin = itchy and irritating. I tried washing off my makeup with just miscellar water. I found it didn’t remove my makeup effectively, especially eye makeup! For me a 1) balm (heimish) or an oil cleanse definitely dislodges the makeup. Followed by a 2) cleanser which I massage for about 20 seconds onto wet skin. Rinse with tepid water. I know every skin is different and this is what works best for me. ❤
I also use the wet towel method, but I use a soft face brush to lather in my cleanser and it's really nice and I don't have to get messy with my hands as much. I have sensory issues, so this is a life saver and has made it possible for me to take care of my skin again and it's actually enjoyable instead of torture! 😅 I usually put the hot (but not too hot) towel on my face a few seconds and then wipe. It's very relaxing too, so it's a treat rather than a chore now. Definitely recommend!
Hi Dr. Idris. Thank you so much for your educational videos. I have learnt a lot from them. In a sea of skincare products, with a sensitive skin, it has not been easy for me to find good products and, especially, the ones that suit me - I have suffered from sensitive, dry, itchy skin for years. Never dared to use any skincare product except moisturizer and sunscreen, leave alone makeup. I now know how to choose a product better - from you - although it's still a learning process for me. From your video recommendations of Bioderma Micellar H2O, I came across Bioderma Micellar face gel - that is mentioned as foamy but without soap. At first I was hesitant because of the word foamy but I bought it nonetheless because it mentioned "for sensitive skin". Plus it isn't expensive. I didn't need micellar H2O as you recommended since I do not wear makeup and am indoors mostly so heavy duty cleaning is not required. But the Bioderma miceller gel has been the best find for me. It is best cleanser I have used for my sensitive, dry skin that has always hated soaps and even so called gentle cleansers. I was surprised how it made my skin feel from the first use. While many people go overboard in their skincare, I nearly had given up on skincare because nothing ever seemed to suit my skin. I have rosacea and a sensitive skin that was "almost always" inflamed - which I found out after years of suffering - was also due to lactose intolerance - no Dr told me about this. I discovered this on my own. None of them suspected food intolerance or talked about effects of specific food on the skin. My skin has started to calm down after I completely gave up milk tea and coffee - Used to have 2 cups a day - the only form of milk product I used to consume on a regular basis. (You could do a video on effects of food types and nutrition on skin health). But thanks to you, I have now come to believe that there are good products out there that may suit one's skin as well as budget - we just need to choose them carefully. And I am hopeful and positive now. ❤
I do face cleansing in PM in the shower. Before steping into shower, I apply cleansing oil with my fingers , and maggase it into face, eyes included. I go to shower, wash it off and follow up with water based cleanser. Results are amazing
I alternate between Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and Noxzema Original Cleaning Cream (yes, I know it is fragranced and has Eucalyptus oil) massage on and I remove it with a very soft microfiber makeup remover cloth.
I love cleansing balms, specifically ELF leaves no residue when rinsed off and is fairly priced. I love the feeling of working them into my face and that I do not need any cotton pads or cloths at all. I would then go in with a gentle foaming cleanser just to make sure any residues are gone, however ELF balm emulsifies really well and washes off clean. I have tried micellar waters from Bioderma but have found I have to go in a few times to get everything off and I don't even do waterproof makeup. For the eyes, the only thing that works fast and doesn't sting nor need rubbing is Garnier micellar with argan oil (the one with two phases to shake up)
I also like that one. Physicians Formula makes a good one too. Although my favourites are the Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm or The Ordinary Squaalane Oil Cleanser. They both come in tubes because i dont like digging into the tubs for wome reason. Theres lots of Kbeaty Options too.
I love ELF balm. I use that to remove makeup and then vanicream face cleanser. I have normal but sensitive, rosacea prone skin. I don't react well to micellar water. It irritates me so I don't know why people like it.
Hi Dr. Idriss! I was wondering if you could do a winter body care video and specifically talk about how frequently one can use chemical and physical exfoliators on the skin to smooth and correct discoloration and treat KP without damaging or drying the skin out. I also had questions about Tinea Versicolor. I know it's caused by malassezia fungus, but can you go in depth about how it causes tinea versicolor and what exacerbates it? For example do hot showers and hair products make it worse? Thank you!

In the morning I only use a toner, I used to wash in the morning too but my dermatologist convinced me to stop.
do you find that you wake up with an oily nose though?? i use a milky cleanser in the AM but noticed i have so much oil/filament build up around my nose
@@thequeensthrone_4 I used to have this issue, not anymore since I'm using retinol. It balances oil production
How are you just using a toner?
@@laurenpetro4807 yes in the morning only
I've been following you for two/three months and I'm learning that consistency and fewer products spread at random are the perfect combo.
Here in the deep north of Italy the cold that makes you sick hasn't arrived yet, so for the moment I'm coping well with autumn, thanks to your precious videos 💙
and my wallet thanks you very much too
Yes, consistency over intensity! 😂 it’s my fav line of Dr. Shereene
Sounds nice👍🏼. Thanks for sharing.
Can you please share where to get those face cloths? Thanks. 😊
@shari247peace. May you please share the link to the wash cloths?
@@paris1506WHY , HOW do people share bits and pieces, and then NEVER finish😮😮😮😮😮
Have ALWAYS washed my face this way… minus the final splash lol! So happy to see you think this technique is good!!
Simple yet effective!! You are so natural , love watching your transparent and intelligent videos!
I really enjoyed this video. I've noticed how much better my face looks and feels simply by slowing down and working the cleanser in. I definitely have to follow your lead on the wiping instead of rinsing because I usually end up soaked. Sleeves, chest, bathroom...
I just showed this video to my preteen daughter. She is starting to need a routine, and this was a great intro for her (and me). Thank you!
40 years.
I appreciate your videos so much! You are helping so many people. I enjoy that you use a sense of humor and frankness to educate us. Thank you!!
I love how real & down to earth you are 💜
Holy cow! I seriously had no idea THIS is the way to wash your face! This makes a lot of sense and I extra appreciate the water efficiency. 🙌🏽 Thank you for sharing this with your little needs. ❤

I wish I knew what I know now in my 20's my skin is the best it's ever been. Love love my skin. I get so many compliments. I love watching your videos it has taught me so much. I like to think that I am a skin nerd because of you and others here on RUclips.
My skin has gotten so much better since only using water in the morning 👌 (including less pimples, nice plump hydrated skin).
You're hilarious and it always feels like I'm hanging out with a good friend who happens to know a lot and has great skin!
Ha I know right!?
This is a technique I’ve used for many years & have recently gotten my daughter on board. You are so right regarding this method of cleansing. I know my face is clean & it feels so good when I apply my night sleeping cream. ❤
I love how your towels match your bracelet too!
Thank you! I have not washed my face in the morning since I stopped getting zits. Rinse off with cold water, sunscreen, go.
Thank for all of these broadcasts. I’ve learned a lot, and I’m 60. I love the Aveeno Oatmeal calm and restore products.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
I really didn't know that I don't need to wash my face in the morning!!!
I'm the one that didn't know how to wash my face and this video is perfect!!! Thank you so much!!!
This video was so helpful. I feel like this is something derms on TikTok and Instagram never fully talk about.
Your advice is literally THE BEST
You're such a doll, you're so easy to listen to ☺️✌🏾. My 29 y.o. daughter told me not to use cleanser EVERY morning, so I alternate with plain H2O, and I like it. I do use the Elemis or e.l.f. cleansing Balms, though bc they're lovely, don't dry my skin or leave residue in my eyes 👍🏾. Thanks for the great tips 😀 ✌🏾
Thumbs up for Dr Idriss’ pajama collection!
Oh I’ve been doing this forever!!!!! Didn’t know it was the right way! It gently physically exfoliates & feels amazing
Thanks you 🙏🙏
No one ever explains how to wash your skin--thank you! (yes, I was doing everything wrong.) Really nice PJs, BTW.
Edit: wipe off, not of
Asian beauty double cleanse ESPECIALLY cleansing oil for the first step changed my life. I'm glad you made this comment! ❤
I can’t imagine tugging across my face and eyes like that. Way too rough! Gently patting and pressing is the way to go.
I use a very mild cream cleanser (Pai) in the morning, it’s zero stripping and makes me feel more moisturized than just water alone.
Thank you for posting this. I’ve just shared it to my 12 and 13yo sons as despite how many times I’ve told/showed them, it may just stick in their brains if it’s not their own mother trying to teach them 😂 ❤
Tell them to be sure never to wash it like this because mom said so and watch them do it every day :)

Kids/teens most ppl who don't put on makeup even if oily do not need to wash their face every single day. Eating right also helps. That oil on our face/whole body is the delicate natural barrier that protects our skin.

Face washing hack is about to change my life. I can feel it.
Back to basics!!! The best ❤
I notice that her face turns a slight reddish color when she is washing it! She looks really pretty though!
Curious about the "secret" cleanser. Maybe something you're adding to your line of skin care 😊? I would love to try it, test it out!
Its maybe black soap.
I also use the wet towel method, but I use a soft face brush to lather in my cleanser and it's really nice and I don't have to get messy with my hands as much. I have sensory issues, so this is a life saver and has made it possible for me to take care of my skin again and it's actually enjoyable instead of torture! 😅
I usually put the hot (but not too hot) towel on my face a few seconds and then wipe. It's very relaxing too, so it's a treat rather than a chore now.
Definitely recommend!
I just started this technique this week and it’s changed my life! Thank you so much.
Hi Dr. ❤
She takes her makeup off and then she looks like 18 yrs old !!!gourgeus skin, so I will follow her advice ♥️
I do face cleansing in PM in the shower. Before steping into shower, I apply cleansing oil with my fingers , and maggase it into face, eyes included. I go to shower, wash it off and follow up with water based cleanser. Results are amazing

Me too, hehe
@@sulakaricats which balm u Use? i used TTDO but then switched to Japanese cleansing oils due to price
Currently The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser I love this one on my sensitive skin
I also hate wet sleeves! Thank you for hack with 7-days towel. Greetings from ukrainian subscribers 🇺🇦

Hi Dr.
Thank you!
