  • I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus is a 2001 family film, based on the classic holiday song of the same name. The movie's tagline was "Christmas is coming, and Santa's a dirty rat!" Starring Connie Sellecca, Corbin Bernsen & Cole Sprouse.
    ---
Young Justin Carver (Dylan and Cole Sprouse) is having Thanksgiving dinner with his family, only for it to end with the news that his best friend Bobby's (Hannelius) bickering parents are finally deciding to divorce. When he overhears his own parents, Stephanie and David Carver (Sellecca and Bernsen) having a heated argument, Justin retreats to his bedroom. A few minutes later, Justin peeks downstairs, only to see his mother Stephanie locked in a warm, romantic embrace with none other than Santa Claus (his father in a Santa suit). He takes a photo, shows it to Bobby the next day, and then sends it to Mrs. Claus. Fooled by Bobby's own situation with his parents, Justin jumps to the conclusion that his mother is having an affair with Santa. So he decides to behave as badly as possible in an attempt to prevent Santa from coming to his house on Christmas Eve night for him to make off with Justin's mother. The resulting hi-jinks include Justin setting traps and throwing snowballs at a street Santa, and even getting himself in trouble at school. Then, on Christmas Eve, Justin's mother receives a letter from the post office. Inside is the photo, which didn't get sent. In the end, Justin finds out that Santa was his father, apologizes to the street Santa and gets the toy he wanted from the real Santa.

As a woman, one thing I always resented about Thanksgiving while growing up was how hard the women in my family had to work the entire week of. First, had to go shopping, with the kids, to purchase the turkey and all other ingredients. Early the morning of...wake in the early hours to get the turkey prepped, stuffed, and in the oven. Prepare all of the other dishes. Keep the kids from destroying the house women had worked so hard to clean and get ready for relatives, then finish the prep work, set the table, carry the food in while still keeping the kiddies controlled, and hopefully clean enough to sit at the kiddie tables, and then call the men in from watching the football game, and to eat the meal. After which, the men would head back to the den, while the women cleaned up, put leftovers away, and did the dishes.
It seriously put me off the whole traditional home-prepped and home-made Thanksgiving Turkey dinner deal. We were always exhausted long before we could hope to retire to the bedroom, because we still had to get the kids cleaned up and into bed, or drive home if we had traveled to visit relatives.

I thought this movie was awesome! It was adorable, & very inventive how little Justin dealt with what he thought was his Mothers infidelity. It was so out of character for such a sweet boy! I really got the parents struggle with what to do about his sudden change of behavior. It was great to watch a movie with good children & parents. Justin even encouraged his friend to be very good. I had some good belly laughs so thank you for that.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned where this movie was filmed. Various parts of Salt Lake county, in Utah. I saw part of the filming in the scenes of Cottonwood mall, which unfortunately was torn down many years ago. But i'm glad we have such high quality scenes of that mall. I especially appreciated the scenes of Kay-Bee Toy Stores.

I haven't watched the vid yet but I read the synopsis. Why would you call a movie in which most of the run time is a child behaving badly "a sweet story." Funny, I can see. But SWEET? What was so sweet about it? The synopsis doesn't even appeal to me.

    • @DonnaBrooks
      @DonnaBrooks Год назад +1

OK, I made the mistake of giving this movie a chance & it was awful. The boy who committed assault, who could have gotten his parents sued, pulled one over on his unsuspecting parents & grandfather, who left him alone at the mall w/o knowing WHAT he was doing. He NEVER accepted responsibility for his actions. In fact, he feigned innocence right to the end when he gave his mom an, "IDK!" look when the guy was afraid & started running from him. Not a sweet story. It was a terrible message to send to children. He committed assault and even put lawn darts in the chimney & Santa rewarded him for it. No contrition. No character growth. [Edited to change "a" to "an".]

I don't like that the kid did a lot of shitty things that hurt that man & he could have gotten his parents a lawsuit if someone else had walked over that rake & shovel. Unlike the description claims, the boy doesn't apologize to the store Santa. In fact, he got away with his crimes w/o his parents or grandfather even knowing. This has nothing to do with "unhappy memories." IDK to whom you are speaking but you should reply directly under the person's comment so people can see the context. I would like to find that person because I hated this movie, too. What kind of message does it send that a child can do anything, even get people fired & assault people, yet have no consequences. In fact, they get rewarded! That guy should come back & sue those parents for the injuries he sustained from their little brat's actions. [Edited to correct a typo.]

I love this film for the same reason I love “The Room” or “Samurai Cop” or the work of Neil Breen. I am a sucker for poorly made cinema.
I wonder if Dylan and Cole Sprouse have any recollection of doing this film, and whatever happened to that Eric Jacobs.
My theory is that he saw the ugly side of Hollyweird as a child, took his Coogan account and skipped town, but we’ll probably never know.

From the description: "Justin... apologizes to the street Santa and gets the toy he wanted from the real Santa." That's a lie. He NEVER apologizes to the street Santa. In fact, he acts like he doesn't know why the Santa is so afraid of him. I guess people think this movie is cute, but I don't. Dennis the Menace didn't assault people. In Home Alone, the kid was protecting the house from burglars, i.e. bad guys / criminals. I understand suspending disbelief, but this kid did things for which he paid NO CONSEQUENCES. He got hugs & kisses from his parents & his favorite toy, even after stabbing Santa in the ass with lawn darts. Yeah, real funny. NOT.

Really dislike movies where the kids are misbehaving brats. I get the premise of the movie, but it doesn't negate the actions of the son.

I'm sure you'll delete my negative comments & only leave the ones that praise this movie b/c you want views, but I'm posting this anyway. This movie sends a TERRIBLE message: Hey kids! You can assault people, damage property, cause a person to lose their job, & cause bodily injury & your stupid parents & grandparents will never even find out b/c you have no conscience & you feign innocence when the guy encounters you again. You not only can get away with misbehavior, but Santa apparently doesn't care how naughty you've been. You get your wishes fulfilled anyway! No accepting responsibility. No learning from mistakes. No apologies. No character growth. BOOOO!

I REALLY DON'T APPROVE OF CHILDREN BEING BRATS, EITHER
HOWEVER, THESE TWO ARE CONSTANTLY LEFT TO THEIR OWN VICES, THE PARENTS ARE VIOLENT,THE TOYS ARE VIOLENT, THE TV SHOWS ARE VIOLENT. THE MOVIE WENT A LITTLE BIT EXTREME, BUT I SEE THE BEHAVIOR BEING THE FAULT OF THE ADULTS AND CHILDREN.

Is English your second language? Because if English is your primary language, you need to get off the internet & take an English class to learn to write sentences in English. Being an adult is WAY harder than growing up. I know. I've done both. Unless you are a kid growing up in an abusive (I mean ACTUALLY abusive as in sexual abuse, punishment that causes physical injury, etc.) home, you are fortunate and your childhood is going to be full of good memories compared to the responsibilities & pain of adulthood.

This movie could have been better with a more lovable kid. I'm sorry, I don't like him much, in my opinion he ruined a movie that otherwise may have been better. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway if I had behaved like him, my parents would have beaten me, there was any chance to do something like he did and getting a simple reproach. Of course, it was in the '60. Thanks for uploading.

Well, I think BEATING children is abusive. I don't think children should be hit anywhere except for spanking their asses on rare occasions. I agree, though, that this movie sends a TERRIBLE message to kids. I recognize the kid from some other film (or films). I agree, though, the kid never showed contrition about ANYTHING,- not for injuring his father, not for assaulting someone, not for damages caused by his misbehavior, including injuries to the store Santa & for Santa being fired, as if it was his fault the kid assaulted him with a pie & mall security couldn't catch the little hoodlum. Ha ha. That was so funny. NOT. That guy was just doing a job; he wasn't a burglar the kid was trying to foil. Anyway, there was NOTHING likeable about this kid! In the end, he feigned innocence about why that guy freaked out & ran away from him. His grandfather was a dolt who left him alone at the mall, not knowing what he was doing during that time. His parents were enablers. Oh, dad got hit in the face by a rake twice and also by a snow shovel, was strung upside down, & ate your hot cookies but it's somehow THEIR fault that he misunderstood a situation & engaged in behavior that could have resulted in them getting sued. Way to teach him there are no consequences for anything he does. Maybe next time he's mad at someone he can put rat poison in their food. There was NO character growth. It wasn't a heartwarming movie. I never liked that awful song and I like the movie even less.
