  • In this episode the DPM team take on their biggest task yet with the restoration of this stunning 1963 Bentley continental drophead S3.
Exclusively coach built they are renowned for being extremely hard to work on and restore - along with Bentleys over engineering this certainly was a testing task.
Taken back to bare metal we soon uncover a vast amount of rust issues and very poor previous repairs. With repair panels not available for this vehicle every panel has to be hand made in house. Nearly 500 hours of metal work was put into this car!
We then go through the steps of filler levelling and priming to ensure this body is perfectly straight with no imperfections and maintaining flush panel fitment and consistent 5mm panel gaps - something every high end restoration requires.
Once prepped the body moves into final paint - such a rewarding stage for any restoration. Maintaining its factory colour of blue and then coated with 5 coats of lacquer ensuring we have a lovely foundation to flat and polish after.
Once shell and panels are painted we move onto flat and polishing - going through 5 grades of sanding to provide a flawless, straight ripple free finish this is the only way we see fit for our restorations.
We then partly assembled the car our end with all new zinc plated fittings and hardware before the car went to SM trimming for a new hood and headlining as well as having the interior recolonised.
Back with us for final fit up with all new chromed bumpers the overall finish is complete. The presence of this vehicle is second to none and is truly stunning and think would be hard pushed to find an example like this.
Huge thank you to my amazing team for the hours put into this and one we are certainly proud to put our name too.
We hope you enjoyed and please like, comment and subscribe!
