  • Jesus’ triumph over sin, death, and the devil is a victory that only God’s Anointed One could secure. Because of this victory, we are given the unmerited gift of salvation leading to a new family and a new name. Christians declare “Jesus is LORD,” as a declaration of the absolute supremacy of Jesus in our lives. The triumph transforms us as we surrender to the leading of the Holy Spirit and live in God’s kingdom. This New Testament book of Acts is the testimony of Jesus’ lordship and the Holy Spirit’s leading in and through the early Church. This testimony reveals both miraculous provision and difficult losses. The book of Acts is not a testimony of the accomplishments of Christians -- it is a testimony of God’s unwavering commitment to advancing God’s will even in the face of evil forces conspiring against it. The Apostle Paul (Saul) recognizes this and he writes to the church in Ephesus, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph. 6:12) Join us this Sunday as we look at Acts 12. We will also commission those serving as leaders for this next year of ministry through First Covenant Church.
In preparation for this Sunday read Acts 12.
