    Thats almost exactly what I am making .
    I forgot to set the volage output on a bec buck voltage regulator and a tiny smoke string came out of my 5.8ghz FPV diversity reciever .
    My diodes came on a clip of the roll type you have . The strip has little pockets like mini butter tubs with a thin plastc film cover to peel back .
    I just screwed a small vicein front of me on my desk and have a lamp on one of those 3 piece arm adjustable position desk lamos , and a microscope soldering goggles like jewlers lupe with flip up lenses . And a pointed soldering tip .

      Turn the heat down . Maybe scratch or scrapethe solder resisting coating away with a sharp razorblade gently and stick a tinned jumper wire there by folding the tinned end over to double the wire like a stronger end to attach and try soldering the new diode to the othercend of the wire . Maybe mount it solid to not flop around with glue if it works .

    Hey, great video! I was had a few questions. I received a hotswap board and it's missing a diode and dealing with the AliExpress vendor is not going so well. My friend helped me determine that it's probably a 0603 diode! I was wondering, when buying these diodes, do they have to be a specific type or is any 0603 fine?

      I measured the diode with a micrometer and checked the specifications for the same similar type of diodes . Mine that burnt out was a peach colred . The new one is black .
      Surface mount , led , glass diode , zenar diode , germanium diode , are search words , and there are 3 pin , 2 pin connection whatever the new one works fine . I saved $35 by fixing it .

      no way to know since the author never posted what model and package the diode is. but given the scale to the quarter's numbers estimate about 2mm by 1mm

    • @johncochran8497
      @johncochran8497 6 лет назад

      Assuming that the PCB is intended for Cherry MX switches, you can get a good sense of the size by looking at the center mounting hole for the switch which is 4 mm. Then by using a screen capture and a graphics program you can determine the number of pixels for the hole diameter and the number of pixels for the length of the 2 diodes to get their relative sizes. I've done that, and it looks like the 1st diode is using the SOD-123 package and the second is using the SOD-323 package. Ignoring the leads and just looking at the epoxy body of the SOD-323 package, it has a length of about 1.7mm. The first diode is larger and it's length is about 2.7mm.

    That soldering paste looks like a dirty work since two drops unite as you heat it up. Is it safe to do like that? Isn't there a risk of a circuit?

    • @smgvbest
      @smgvbest 6 лет назад

      a good part of solder paste is flux, once the solder begins to melt it will wick itself towards the pads and separate unless the amount of solder is way to much and it didn't appear so. once the flux was gone it looked ok

    • @johncochran8497
      @johncochran8497 6 лет назад

      Surface tension and solder mask are your friends. As long as you don't have too much solder, the solder mask will repel the solder and the solder will just remain on the pads and component leads. In fact, if the hot air station isn't blowing too hard, surface tension will pull the component into alignment if it wasn't already properly positioned.
      Take a look at ruclips.net/video/b9FC9fAlfQE/видео.html for a nice example of soldering a SMT IC. Pay close attention to how he fixes a solder bridge between two pins. And this video ruclips.net/video/8Q6YNmBKjiU/видео.html is a really nice demonstration of hand soldering different sizes of devices. Personally, I don't see how he managed to do the 01005 device. But it's definitely a nice demonstration on how surface tension helps.

    Hey weird question. I have a mini human spine made out of PVC it's about 20" tall.
    All the spine parts slide and stack on top of a metal rod so they all have a hole in the middle to do so.
    This leaves about 1.5mm of space in the hole through each of the 20 parts that comprise the human spine.
    Should I just get one straight wire and small LED lights and solder them all onto the wire so it fits down the hole?

    • @docferringer
      @docferringer 4 года назад

      Alcohol should not corrode the board so long as it is not diluted down with water. 90% isopropyl alcohol will evaporate a few seconds after it is applied.
