When you think about it, it might be the most influential movie series on the wrestling industry as a whole. Especially with how big the Road Warriors and Demolition were.
Jeff Van Camp was sort of a public face for the Escambia County Sheriff's Department. For years, he hosted a show on a local TV station, Wanted Fugitives, which showed mug shots and talked about, well, fugitives that the Sheriff's Department and Pensacola Police Department were after. I worked at the station for a few years in the early 00s. I'm a big dude, I was about 6'1 1/2" and not done growing, but he had to be at least 6'5" and still had all the muscle from his wrestling days, he looked like a beast. For a cop though, super nice dude.
Yes, he used the gimmick from '87-'89. His son Gunnar used the gimmick for a while, as well, about 20 years ago. While in a small Florida promotion (don't recall the name), Scott Hall also used the gimmick for a brief time.
The original Humongous was Mike Stark in Memphis. The guy you have on the pic is Gary Nation. He only ever did the gimmick for small outlaw shows. Sid also was Humongous in Memphis and Continental when he first started.
I remember Humungous. It was around 84 or 85 I think. I was only about 10 and that dude was scary! They billed him as 6'8 and back then he seemed even bigger than that. My Grandpa was still alive then and was 6'5 and close to 300, but I didn't even think about him being as big as Humungous! Great times
Porkchop Cash is one of the greatest wrestling names ever. Hadn't seen a lot of him growing up but was always familiar with who he is and remembered the name.
My favorite two wrestlers. Arn and Lord Humongous. Always wanted to see the latter in thr big leagues. Gotta give him props for supporting his wife's feelings about it though.
Actually a guy named Mike Stark was the original. Although he only did the gimmick for a couple of months before Jeff took over. And yes, Jeff was probably the best one of all who ever used the gimmick. Sid's use of it probably is so popular because it was his most popular gimmick other than the Sid Vicious gimmick.
Man i used to watch these episodes every Saturday morning on WKRG 5. Arn, Stubbs, Idol, Jimmy Golden. Humongous, Ron fuller, (Stud) Robert Fuller The rat patrol, Cash, bill ash the Bullet Charlie Platt, Rick Stewart Boomer Lynch, Boris, some manager named King Louie. Idol was always getting his ass kicked Jimmy Golden was a monster on the microphone Cash was getting beat with a belt, Idol got jumped at a gas station Randy and Pat rose Dennis Condry, Flair every now and then. Some where in my house is a box full of VHS tapes recorded from Saturday morning shows.
You need to get that stuff digitized and on RUclips! I’ve seen some old videos here from SE Wrestling and it’s great when they leave the local commercials in.
The way I remember it, on Gulf Coast championship wrestling, Arn brought the Lord Humongous in to get rid of Austin Idol; that was the storyline any how. Arn always used to tell idol, “How do you like that chit, muscle head!"
Original Lord Humongous was Mike Stark, University Of Memphis strength coach. Jeff was a Defensive Tackle at the University Of Louisville and the 2nd Humongous. Sid was #3 (or 4?).
Have been a lot of guys that did the gimmick. As has been stated, Mike Stark was the original. But only used it for a couple of months. Jeff was 2nd. Both began using it in like '84. Sid used it from '87-'89, before going to WCW as Sid Vicious. A couple decades later Sid's son Gunnar used the gimmick.
Jeff Van Camp was the best and most successful version of Humongous. He was good in Southeastern Championship Wrestling and GREAT in the Mid South!!! He had a ton of heat. He was a tag team partners with the original Barbarian aka Nord the Barbarian. I remember like it was yesterday when the Barbarian and Humongous faced off for the first time and the Barbarian turned against Jake Roberts. Humongous had a great feud with a then face wrestler named Jake the Snake Roberts. One of my all time favorite feuds. The Jeff Van Camp version of Humongous is criminally underrated!!!!
From Panama City to Pensacola the beaches have the whitest sands I have ever seen. Arn is correct, the panhandle area is unique and will reach out and grab you. Nearly all year round, one can go fishing or lay out on the beach. In the fall and winter one can drive about 30 to 40 miles north and hunt white tail deer. When I was in the USAF, Eglin AFB andTyndall AFB was like a vacation. The cost of living is very affordable. The area also has some of the hottest ladies!
Lord Humongous was a character in The Road Warrior, wore the same costume the character in the movie did.
I didn't know Jerry Lawler directed Mad Max 2. Also, having a wrestler named after the movie The Road Warrior. That's original.

Was that there him

@@willhorting5317 yeah saw humongous vs doug furnas probably in the 80s. I think it was Sid under the mask but not sure

Jeff van camp was a deputy sheriff for many many years with the escambia county sheriff dept in Pensacola. Last I heard he moved farther south
He worked for Dick the Bruiser in his Indianapolis territory under his real name.
Didn’t Sid Vicious also do the Humongous bit for a while?
Yes in mid south he had a good fued with Jake Robert's u can find it on RUclips
Yes.
Jeff Van Camp was Humongous in Mid-South. Sid did it later in USWA/Memphis.
Porkchop Cash is one of the greatest wrestling names ever. Hadn't seen a lot of him growing up but was always familiar with who he is and remembered the name.
I loved the Lord Humongous. He was my favorite wrestler along with Arn Anderson of course 😊
I lived in Gulf Breeze for 2 years. Hidden Gem. I lived there for 2 years and I will be back
My favorite two wrestlers. Arn and Lord Humongous. Always wanted to see the latter in thr big leagues. Gotta give him props for supporting his wife's feelings about it though.
The character Lord Humongous wore a hockey mask before Jason did.
Friday the 13th came out in 1980, lord humongous 84. I know jason didn't wear it in the very beginning, but pretty sure it was before sid wore it
Humongus was 6-6 and 315 .muscle
The photo you showed of Humongous in front of the blue fabric is a photo I took of Jeff at a Continental reunion show. - DragonKingKarl
I would hear all kinds of stories about Lord humongous coming through South Alabama.
Everyone commenting about Sid or other Humongous wrestlers Jeff Van Camp was the original and the best one ever.

Sid was the second one
If I recall correctly, this Jeff guy Arm's referring to, was the 2nd person that used the gimmick.

Sid did the gimmick for a bit in the late 80s. There is a RUclips video where he and master of pain( who later became the Undertaker) had a face off.
I love You guy’s
didnt Sid Vicious play a version of Lord Humongous in the Continental territory i think in the southeast....Armstrongs and the the such worked there
Wearing a hockey mask is perfectly legal and lends to fair competition.
Porkchop Cash looks alot like the late MMA star Kimbo Slice
Lord Humongous , I thought was Sid Vicious?
So did I🤔
Many versions of Lord humoungus I'm sure,I'm thinking Jeff was first version
Original Lord Humongous was Mike Stark, University Of Memphis strength coach. Jeff was a Defensive Tackle at the University Of Louisville and the 2nd Humongous. Sid was #3 (or 4?).

Sid vicious was lord humongous for a bit too
Thanks captain obvious
Porkchop Cash and Tom Jones were Georgia Tag Team Champions at one time. They beat the Valient Brothers and lost to the Anderson Brothers.

I moved to Gulf Breeze Florida last year from Trashachusetts. Best move I ever made.

Stepfather was stationed at Tyndall in the mid 80’s. We lived in Lynn Haven. First job was Ryan’s Steakhouse. Loved that place.
@@uksteelcityredleg3852 I would pull TDY at Tyndall AFB. Probably my favorite assignment, especially between March and September.
