Just to add to the info from the others that already commented about the omnis. Omnimechs have modular pods, so they can be configured on the fly based on what mission/role it'll be involved in for that mission (that also significantly shortens repair time, as the technicians only need to replace the modular pod). They are mostly relegated to frontline units. In addition, the torso modular mounts also have clamps for battle armor to cling to, so they can transport them to the battlefield (you can't use torso-mounted weapons until they've disembarked). Non-omnis are the standard battlemechs. The weapons can be customized, but those customizations are more or less permanent, and it takes time. During the Clan Invasion era, all standard battlemechs are used by second-line forces as far as Clan forces are concerned. That changed over time, starting with the Jihad Era (specifically after the War of the Reavings as the IS Clans lost access to their Homeworld, including their manufacturing facilities), and has become especially prevalent during the Dark Age era, where standard battlemechs are heavily used in frontline units, such as the Tundra Wolf. Now, it's more common to see standard battlemechs in Star formations along with Omnimechs (Then again, the IS Clans ave become more Inner Sphere-like). BTW, Inner Sphere factions also manufacture their own Omnis, starting either in 3055 or 3058.
Not all ClanMechs are Omni. it was True at the beginning. But the Mechs at Hoc Star Box are what you call "Second Line Mechs". In Short: Omnis are for the front Line troops. Second Line for everyone else. Secondliner comes in all forms. The range is from just upgraded Star League Mechs to complete new designs that are only inferior in the point that they are not Omnis
Great information! Thanks! I should have stopped and asked myself about the SLDF exodus, that’s essentially the start of the clans and all of those mechs were non-Omni at the time. I assumed the Kodiak would have been a front line Mech, he doesn’t have Omni, is that a second line Mech as well?
Omnis are your front-line weapons, while the no-omnis are second-line units, used by garrison and second-line clusters.....now, that isn't a hard and fast rule, and you'll sometime you'll see one sort of unit used in the other sort of cluster. What you have here is a basic second-line star....
@@Thearmedpainter You nailed it! The Kodiak is a second line Mech that's produced exclusively by Clan Ghost Bear (surprise surprise), and it's considered that Clan's "totem mech" - the mech design that best epitomizes a Clan's style of warfare and totem animal. It's meant to be a second-line counterpart to the Gladiator Omni-Mech, which is probably the Omni most closely associated with Clan Ghost Bear as well.
@@Thearmedpainter the Star Leauge Mercury was the first step in the developement of the Omni Technology. And after 3060 you start to see good Second Line Mechs like the Kodiak in front line Units. Especialy within Clans that moved to the inner Sphere like Ghost Bears and Wolf in Exile
They have second line mechs. they even have traditional inner sphere mechs that are upgraded with clan tech. remember that the clans were the starleague.
If you want to get a bit more mileage out of the minis, the Lyrans built an almost visually identical copy of the Fire Falcon called the Stiletto. One model, two mechs.
Non Omni Mechs are called Second Line Mechs and usually on the lesser Warriors or freebirth Control them. 2nd Line Units are usually the defense units, while omnis are mostly in their Front line (attack units) allthough some clans use 2nd Line mechs in Frontline units due to restricted Ressourcen as 2nd Line are cheaper to produce
Kodiak Pack Hunter and Baboon are all 2nd line mechs. 2nd line mechs are either old designs or intended to secondary roles and in lore are easier to make and not omni-mechs.
The Kodiak is just such an awesome mech, I am waiting for mine to arrive ordered this pack solely for the kodie. Another great unboxing i subbed because after going through your list and watching them, you make alot of great videos.
Thanks for the feedback! I’m going to continue to try to put up videos that engage with you guys and get conversations going :) I’ve got a few more coming next week.
@@Thearmedpainter yeah, it was originally in the Clan Heavy Star, but they swapped it out for the Behemoth/Stone Rhino along with a few changes to other boxes. There was a huge outcry from the community, so the absolute legends at Catalyst created the Ad Hoc box to bring back the fan faves.

You can save the box and use it to store the mechs when your done

"My character pissed of a bad dude, and he leveled a city because of me."
So basically what you're saying is that you're character is an Avenger!
Hahaha
That Kodiak is rude! 7/7 damage and an OV of 4!! Brutal!

I was familiar with the IIc stuff but there are some variants that show up in the MUL that throw me for a loop lol.
Great unboxing video - I appreciate you doing these while I'm still waiting for my loot!

Love that Kodi, the wife has already claimed our one for her Ghost Bears! I can't believe they were gonna cut it!
They were seriously considering cutting it? It’s one of the coolest minis from the release!

3 attack rolls in classic! Boom! :)
