@@marli4442 I mean he's undeniably the villain but I agree there's depth to his character and so much more to see (like the theories he might've been from the End, or he doesn't need the "revival book" Because he himself has the power to revive, since we've never really confirmed the existence of the book by seeing it ourselves)

@@marli4442 Yes, all of them have done bad things, but not like Dream. Quackity is pretty close to him though.
I think the reason that people see Dream as the villain is because he never streams, so we don’t see thing trough his perspective. You can argue for both sides. Quackity has done some thing that are almost if not as messed up, yet we know his story and understand his motives. We don’t know Dream’s entire reasoning, so we can’t see his humanity, therefore we can’t relate and feel no sympathy.
Would you say that manipulation is worse than torture?
Almost everyone on the server has done shitty things. Yet these events can be twisted through the lense we spectate them from.

Dream tried to get rid of all attachments "holding him back", but he could never get rid of the love he held for his friends ;-;
I don't think they were holding him back, I think he was protecting them from being used against him. He had been forced to give up power for his items a lot, and he may have realised that his friends could be used in the same way. So he turned around and broke his friendships to protect his friends from his fight. It probably hurt Dream, but in order to keep control, he couldn't afford to be manipulated by his emotions.
That is very true. I completely agree with all of that. This helps to see Dream's character in a new light.

Actually, and this is the saddest part, I think he did. He used his friendships to his advantage, getting rid of George as king the second he could. Only one I can think of, and I'm not a Dream stan anyways, so probably can't talk so much about it.

Dream wanted to cut all the attachments (teared up the photo) but when he was alone in the prison he still missed and wanted to hold on these old days (taped pieces together)

RIIGGHTTT when dream said he didn't care for them did he really not tho? Did he really not felt pain? Did he really not felt guilt? Did he really not feel like he wanted to scream? Did he really not feel happiness when he was with them? Did he really not feel joy with them? Even tho the whole people on the server (roleplay) see dream as this person who is pure evil with that smiley face mask, dream is still a person who has felt lots of things and I mean painful things..behind that mask we and they don't really know what or who or how he feels. Behind that mask maybe be just a boy who wanted to be with his friends and peace but is swallowed by darkness and evilness and needs SOMEONE or SOMETHING to take that mask of and show him where there is light and hope...(ROLEPLAY ,LORE) I'm still new to the dsmp so I'm sorry if I'm wrong it's just my opinion 😅

Dream gave up things he was attached to because people kept using them against him, that included his friends. He had the remains of his dead horse used in an attempt to get out of punishment for burning down George's house. Dream probably realised that his friends could get hurt if someone tried to use them against him, so he broke down their friendship to protect them and himself from being used.
All these people making animatics have a talent for making a block game depressing even though people were often laughing during the "horrible" parts in game.
I don't mean that in a bad way either, it makes the experience of dream smp so much better in my opinion.
True like the people on the Dream smp said that their are soo many talented artist in the community which i agree 1000% i mean the Dream smp litterally bring back our childhood (sorta...considering some are really dirty minded) and alot of the artist find interest in the lore so they have so much inspiration to animate and do art

We get swallowed up by the acting or the atmosphere and get mad, sad, happy etc

Its a lot more sad when u realize that george and sapnap is making a nee kingdom (kinoko) with karl and it just showd that theyre (atleast)moving on and trying to create new memories while dream is stuck in the prison
The light slowly fading as the flashing frames show the story progressing, eventually ending with dream, alone, in the dark is such a good storytelling choice
The dream smp wouldn’t be the same without the animators

I love this so much; it really shows that although he’s done monstrous things, c!Dream is still human. He had friends, he had bonds, he had a life, same as everyone else. And despite what he’s done, nobody deserves the punishments he’s being given. He’ll just leave more broken than when he came in...

Prison is messed up. Puffy needs to go to prison and give him therapy lessons. Yes Tommy may need them, but Dream is being tortured now from Quackity . . So it kinda ratios.

@@Stripey_Lemon I don’t know, it depends what headcanon you follow. I think in official canon Dream is human, and that’s what I like to think, because although nonhuman Dream is cool and used often I don’t really think it works for his character.
the sentences: “Dream is a bastard man that deserves to be locked up.” and “I miss Dream on the SMP” are statements that can and should coexist.

I've been desperately hoping for an animatic that showed the Dreamteam's side of the story, since I feel it's a true tragedy that just not get explored as much as anything else. This is so much more than I ever could've hoped for. You managed to capture the feeling of nostalgia and heartwrenching tragedy, their facial expressions-- when Dream ghosted behind them for a moment as they Remembered I'll be honest with you I gasped out loud. Actual real tears and that's not an exaggeration. This is just, beautiful. Thank you so much for this. ;o;

Many times, the “hero” of the story is only the hero to the people who agree with them. A fact that is incredibly ignored is that villains are the heroes to the people on their side.
Dream is a villain because it was easy to blame things on him rather than have people take responsibility for their actions.

Awesome man! Dream acts as the antagonist for a lot of folks nowdays, but it does not erase the person he was earlier, the dear friend of George and SapNap, and your animation really captures that! Well done!

Fitting really, for their personalities and relationships after the events that happened in the SMP the three created.
Incoming Rant:
It’s also pretty sad to think that Dream only left and abandoned his friendship with his friends for the sole purpose of protecting them from any consequences they’ll go through by associating and sticking with him, and him knowing that the two are his weaknesses, and can be easily manipulated to gain control over him, so he loses said attachments to the two people most precious to him, so they don’t get hurt
I also accept my own personal headcanon that Dream accepts and embraces being the ‘villain of the history books’, and knows that he’d much rather have George and Sapnap remembered to be on the ‘Good Guys Side’ than be with him on the ‘Villain’s Side’, since he knows they’re both too good ‘a people to ever do anything, or attempt to do, (what) he’s done
edit: ALSO ALSO!!! In the beginning, with the first lyrics 'we took the wrong way down, you see just one side now', it hits HARD when you notice how Kir drew and animated the shot; Dream, mask broken and at his lowest, facing the two people most precious to him, turn away on his time of need, was when he realizes nobody was ever truly on his side since the beginning of the conflicts. They were with him from the very beginning, helping him build THEIR kingdom, and him helping them with their endeavors, only for them to turn away when he needs them, and only seeing the other sides' stories and perspectives, NEVER his own. Nobody tried seeing things from his perspective; at the beginning, he wanted to put everything in the server to peace since Tommy adn Wilbur's want for an independent nation might spur trouble(and it did), and took drastic measures to do so, but as conflicts rode on, he went further and further down the path of insanity, perceiving himself as the one who's always right and developing a God complex with his knowledge of resurrection, and everybody else also developed their own problems and mental illnesses(if this sounds rude I APOLOGIZE I DON'T MEAN FOR IT TO SOUND RUDE OR INSENSITIVE). The wars and fights didn't just the affect the 'protagonists', the 'supporting characters', hell, even the 'anti-heroes', they also affected him, and nobody tried to care or even think about his own situation, not even Sapnap and George, the two people who know him better than anybody else and still believed in him. IDK maybe if everybody tried to do so, maybe Dream wouldn't have had to resort to his actions, or even fallen into depravity, but they didn't, and now? Now, they'll have to reap what they sow once/if Dream gets out of prison, with nothing but revenge and madness in his mind from being left to (physically, mentally, and possibly emotionally) rot and be tortured.
Not only that, but with George and Sapnap, they leave behind the things they consider precious to them that associates with Dream; Sapnap with Dream's armor and George his kingly gear, but with Dream in prison? The only thing that he's left clutching with is possibly HIS most precious item; a photo of him and his two best friends, which he doesn't let go of, even after his friends' betrayals, his fingers covering his portrait in the photo, leaving his two best friends’ portraits to be seen, but his own not, maybe foretelling him being forgotten as the creator and founder in the future? Only having the others be known even a little, but him forever forgotten in history
I've had this head an on since dream started showing his villain side. I think he slowly started drifting for the friend group. He felt ignored and left out. He still greatly cares for his friends but they left him. Dream came to the realization that everyone close to him eventually leaves. And he doesn't want to deal with the heartbreak of them leaving so he pushes them away. I really love your idea that he wants to be seen as the villain by himself and not with sapnap and george. He did say he always wanted to unite the server. He did so by becoming the one thing they all hate. It's sad to see that instead of helping him through his issues of control they torture and isolate him. He will be left alone with his thoughts for far too long. They don't want him to change though. They want to hate him. They need to hate him because if they don't hate him they will turn on each other and all the insecurities will be revealed.
I may or may not have created this headcanon based off personal experience. Sometimes to Better yourself you need to lose some friends. Especially when you're feeling like whenever you hang out with them you are just in the background. It's very easily to slip into that anger and sadness. And while dream sits alone in prison his anger will fester and grow stronger.

Edit: Also yes, Prison Arc! Dream’s anger towards everyone will fester, especially since Quackity’s torturing him and giving him all the more reason for revenge, I really hope they don’t figure this out and find this out until after he gets his revenge, just the sheer hopelessness of instead of helping him to become better, they left somebody suffering alone to let their anger and insanity grow more and more until they explode, and bring everyone down with him
@@sh_uah I also kinda think that he left them because he feared that they would leave him but also because he knew if they would stick with him what they probably would have done if he hadn’t “betrayed”them, that for example tommy would try and hurt him by hurting them that’s also why I think he said he doesn’t care about them what I think he does for sure and another example is that he made Eret king again instead leaving George on the throne I think he did that to protect George because as king everyone would just think that he is just doing what dreams tells him to do and he would be targeted even more so he made Eret king again because he doesn’t really have a close friendship with Eret and they wouldn’t blame him for all the things that dream is going to do in the future

Dream really only did the things he did for the sake of George and Sapnap, that’ll REALLY spice up the drama and how people would view Dream in general, since nowadays, SMP! Dream is perceived as just a manipulative and insane person who wants everything to go downhill for power and control, and if it’s confirmed or stated that Dream did everything for George and Sapnap, it’s gonna be really a heartbreaking revelation on how much he’ll go through for them; torture, being the ‘villain’, using Eret as a scapegoat so George doesn’t they targeted(like you said), and (possibly eternal) imprisonment
@@sh_uah beautifully said. I relate to dream a lot. You care for your friends a lot but even when you are with them you feel ignored and in the backseat. I have burned bridges in order to protect myself from any damage they can cause from leaving me. Dream wants everyone to understand his pain. I think that’s why he hung out with Tommy in exile. He wanted to take Tommy under his wing and show him how easily his friends left him and threw him away. He wanted to show Tommy that by being alone he can better himself and grow without his friends. Techno tried to show the same thing. Tommy’s ignorance has and forever will be his downfall. Dream is angry at the world and everyone points fingers and blames instead of helping him resolve his anger.

This just really just comes to show that the 'villain' depends on someone's story, like how George and Sapnap used to not consider Dream as the villain as the three fought alongside to defeat their so called villain Tommy but Tommy thought and did otherwise. Same as for Ranboo, the both of them (or atleast I think) thought of Dream as this evil man who literally manipulated and controlled/controls them therefore thinking that Dream is the villain in the story.
One could say he wasn't the villain but I could say otherwise. But something that does warm my heart though is that even though he seemed to be the villain in the eyes of a lot of people including the fans (and me) in the end he still cared about his friends but unfortunately became blinded by his want for power.

I read this whole thing, and I understand it better than what I write about literally anything, you put a lot of thought into this, and it really shows, the English is good.
I think this is a really good portrayal about how each character in the DSMP is specifically written to be morally grey. There are no good characters or evil characters; everyone does good and bad things.
I think Dream is the best example of that. He did everything he did because he wanted the SMP to feel like a family; someplace safe and happy for everyone to get along, and he wanted them to be united.
The cost of their union was the cost of him, since he sacrificed everything to make sure he was the common enemy and bring everyone else together. It's tragic, if you think about it like that. He wanted so badly for everyone to be apart of a group that he purposefully made everyone hate him just so they could have that feeling of community.
Every frame from 3:18 is incredibly drawn and beautifully sums up not just Dream's journey, but the story of the SMP, just not from the perspective of the most traditional "protagonists".

I am not a Tommy apologist (and that is probably very morally wrong) because from a storytelling perspective, his character is not very sympathetic. That is because his bad choices don’t really impact his temporary ending
The expressions, the sentiment, the shading and flow in and out of each scene, plus the music choice is just spot on. This is fantastic. Even the way the photo at the end has been taped back together. Beautiful.
Don't forget that Tommy started this when he started fights on the server, then went against dream for and gave up his disk for L'manburg which by the way was a democracy so if they said no pulling votes together they would have won but then Slatt came in to put both Wilbur and Tommy in exile, now when this happened Wilbur went crazy and became more dangerous than dream, Techno joining was great but they all betrayed him except Dream, Philza, and Ranboo. Techno is still a person like everyone but he isn't something you own or use whenever. People say Technoblade should be dead or imprisoned but he is like that because of them betraying and abusing him. Then the fall of L'manburg happened with Techno, Philza, and Dream. Philza is not crazy but he killed his own son because of them and wanted vengeance. Dream went to prison only because of him being outnumbered by 20 people, even Technoblade would have trouble dealing with that many in a short time. Now Tommy deserves that exile because of him griefing a house, starting literally wars, betraying people, and even trying to overthrow dream. But he was outside, he could build, travel and do all sorts of things. Dream was imprisoned with a cauldron, clock, and raw potatoes, people don't visit him as much and can't do anything. He was finally able to get company but Tommy just hurts him at every second he had. Dream had a cat to keep company but Tommy killed it just to keep hurting dream. Dream was fed up and killed him and Revived him. Tommy now knows dream isn't bluffing anymore and will kill everyone for the torture he put him through.

Dream, while being with Tommy in exile:
Took all his stuff, manipulated Ghostbur, stopped invitations from being sent to make Tommy think that he was his only friend, blew up his stuff repeatedly, pushed Tommy to the point of almost comitting su*cide TWICE, gaslighted him, and left him with extreme trauma where he gets shaky just being in a plains biome.
And that's ONLY during Tommy's exile, completely ignoring the fact that he wanted to imprison everyone's most valuable items to try and take complete control over the entire SMP and also everything he's done to Ranboo and Tubbo.
Dream was written to be the bad guy, I feel. Yes, maybe Tommy and Wilbur kickstarted it but literally they just wanted to sell drugs. Dream is powerhungry, controlling, and manipulative and that's the entire point.

OMGsh!! YES!!!! if you think about it Tommy is manipulative in his own way. He got all of L'Manburg to go to war for a couple of discs. Discs that he could get more of. He could do anything destroy anything and no one but Dream did anything about it. Tommy's character is selfish and entitled. And he kinda has (or had) everyone wrapped around his fingers.

Dream was the one to drag the discs into this big signifcant thing to begin with, Dream was the one who would hide in Tommys walls all day waiting for Tommy to play the discs so he could steal them. Dream was the one who wanted one of Tommys discs at the end of the first war as well as for L'manberg to never have its independence.
Everyone on the server destroyed things. Especially Dream. Tommy was the only one that got in trouble for griefing, like take what happened in the burning of George's house, it was hardly any damage and everyone got mad at Tommy for it. And lets not forget to mention that a week before that, Dream had went around the server destroying things and blaming it on Tommy.
Dude this actually made me want to cry so bad. I miss how it used to be honestly, when it was mostly just them, hanging out and being silly. This is so well done though!

I have such confused feelings for C!Dream. On the on hand, a lot of what he's done is unredeemable. But having been in the fandom for so long, I also remember when he was actually understandable. I just miss the old Dream man ;-;

If you really think about it, Dream is a tragic character. He thought in the end that removing all attachments was the best for himself but it only ended in tragedy for him

... Maybe I teared up a little... But, geez, Dream's de-evolution of his character is just sooooo good! It reminds me of Azula's character arch, a little. Although he didn't start out as an emotionally compromised 14 yo girl with prodigy syndrome.
I LOVE THIS!! It really gives us insight on his character, after all what was Dream? He was just a man who owned a peaceful land and wanted to protect his friends and the people he loved. What did he get from it though? A crazed man who started illegally selling drugs with children and declared Independence (which is declaring war too) from a land which was already free, a child who broke the only rules (No greafing, stealing) and when was punished tried to get out of it by using the dead remains of someone who Dream held close to his heart, Spirit. We can't judge Dream by the things he said to his ENEMIES (Tommy, Wilbur, etc) about wanting power and not caring, because we all say things we don't mean in front of people we're against. His friends never bothered to let him explain, the times they spent together all to waste so easily, with a simple "Just tell me you hate me". No one stood up for Dream.

Looking at that picture Dream's holding at 3:02 The spots of tape make it kinda look like he was going to tear the entire thing apart but stopped partway through. You can see stress marks but they aren't taped together, which either means that he ran out of tape (rather unlikely) or he started ripping it during some sort of emotional high and regretted it almost instantly.
The tiny details are amazing!
I've never seem an animatic that follows dream's story.. like he's the one who has actually been there the e n t i r e time and yet this is the first of anything really (animation, writing, art, etc) that I've seen do that, fucking phenomenal omg!

I'm no huge fan of the Dream SMP, but if you think about it, Tommy was the reason Dream went down such a bad path.
Edit: I am now much more into the Dream SMP and Dream did go too far.
tommy and dream really bring out the worst in each other, ie dream denouncing his attachment to spirit in favor of the discs and tommy denouncing his attachment to tubbo in favor of the discs /dsmp

the c!dteam is one of the saddest dynamics on the server imo, not just because of lore but because of the LACK of lore they have together because of the road Dream took. Dream intentionally lost his friends and cut them off to avoid 'attachments' and being vulnerable, Sapnap disagrees with everything Dream is doing and knows he has to stay in prison even though he misses him, George was clearly hurt by everything Dream did and just sort of let himself fade out of the lore. I'm pretty sure the last time the three of them (not counting DreamXD 'lore') were together was when Dream dethroned George and then attacked them in El Rapids. :( It hurts so much when they're the Dream Team and they're supposed to be the closest trio on the server.
I feel like I’ve just watched the entire SMP again in four minutes but this time, from dream’s perspective. This is INCREDIBLE.
so one thing i noticed is that compared to the before Dream and the now Dream is that the places for the eyes in his mask get empty they go from fully colored in to a black circle with an outline. it may be a mistake but i take as a symbol that he lost himself and his soul. The full time is when he was happy and wasn’t crazy but the empty part is when he was manipulative and horrible. The symbol shows that he lost himself

I’m going to be honest, everyone sees the sleepy boys being torn apart and that’s sad, but no one looks at how sapnap and George feel after Dream did all this stuff
I love the detail of Sapnap looking away while George keeps looking at the prison. It shows that while Sapnap understands what Dream has done and believes that he deserves prison, George who has been asleep for awhile doesn’t even know half the things Dream’s done and therefore is having a harder time letting go.
I love this evaluation of the story thus far. I was just talking to a friend about Sapnap's character arc and how it evolved over time from fighting against L'Manberg during the War for Independance to defending it during Doomsday, and him standing against Dream at the Disc War Finale. Sapnap has changed and grown, often painfully, whereas Gogy's arc is less painful, but nearly completely static. Sapnap mourns, but moves on; George doesn't know how to change things because he hasn't changed. Great contrast and very smart characterization!
this deserves SO MANY MORE views!! your subtle movements of george and sapnap are so so good and i love how dream never has those minute changes. this is amazing!!

I love when a villains backstory makes you feel sympathy because the stories just hurt that much more and it makes it so much more memorable.
Honestly, I just want Dream out of prison at this point. Torture isn't something anyone deserves not Tommy, not Dream, not Quackity, no one. You reap what you sow and Quackity is gonna have one hell of a shitshow when Techno and Dream get out.

This is pretty good! I do hope that at some point in the Smp, dream has a redemption arc. It would be so heartwarming if he reunites with everyone and slowly over time, becomes friends with everyone again. ☺️

My favorite part of this is the compilation at the end. It's like Dream is asking where he went wrong - when did his life wind up this way? Was it when he gave the TnT to Wilbur? When he exiled Tommy? When he threatened l'Manbeg? Was there ever a 'point of no return' or was it always going to end this way?

This was one of the first Dream Smp animatics I ever saw. It is still one of my favorites.
This is fantastic, and I never would’ve expected it would pair so perfectly with the ending of the whole SMP
A few seconds in to the animatic and the music started playing, I was like "yep ik this is going to be an emotional animatic," but besides that the music choice, the pairing of the scenes and the art are all to amazing
This is honestly when I used to enjoy the server.. less fans, les toxicity, less script, more fun, more genuine interactions.. I’m sad this left tbh
The way that George looks at the prison longer than Sapnap when they're leaving killed me. It was like George was hoping that Dream would come running out of the gates exactly like he used to be, happy and their friend
I was trying so hard throughout the entire thing to not cry then the second the last frames played my eyes were like "OPEN THE DAMS"
Shit man, Dream really tried to break the attachments holding him back from power. but he'll never break the attachment and love in his heart that he holds for his friends. I think he could change.

I don’t see Dream as a villain here in the SMP. He was only trying to make the server perfect the way he intended, but because others don’t agree that’s why he need to force the others no matter what it causes. Even if it means leaving everything behind. “A villain is a hero that has not been convinced yet.” And I believed that. I first thought Dream is just doing it for power and for his own fun, but now when he was put in the Pandora Vault, I know there is something else we didn’t see from this character. Dream doesn’t deserved all this.
I actually love how this animation was done, it really told everything. I LOVE IT.

How this only has 10k, I don't know. How the artist did this, I don't know. What I do know, is this is a masterpiece of a emotion of beauty, and it really makes the audience think back to how before everything things were so simple, and even the villains of the server like Dream are still human, and we take that for granted.
This song, it really reminds me of how COVID has affected me. I still cry thinking about how I can't go outside, how much I miss my friends, and how much I want to burn my mask. It makes me tear up, thinking about how different it was when I still went to school, and how different it was when I saw my friends every day. It makes me realize all that we take for granted. It makes me realize how hungry I am for any human connection, because now it's gone. Now I see how different everything is now. My dreams are my only escape for the horror film we're living in, and being lonely made me come together with other people, do new things, and see everything slowed down. Yes I know that sounds weird, but now? Now I see a flower grow day by day, now I see the leaves slowly fall off the trees, I see the snow melt, and then I see it all over again. It makes me see what this pandemic has put us all through, but it also makes me just want everything to be okay again.
