  • In March 2023, Gov. Gavin Newsom stood before a crowd in Sacramento’s Cal Expo event center and made a promise: He’d send 1,200 tiny homes to shelter homeless residents in the capital city and three other places throughout the state.
    The move was part of Newsom’s push to improve the homelessness crisis by quickly moving people out of encampments and into more stable environments. But more than a year later, none of those tiny homes have welcomed a single resident. Only about 150 have even been purchased.

    So, we've stopped arresting people when they steal and do drugs in public. Now all the people that used to sober up in jail, treatment facilitates, and mental heath facilities are on the street doing drugs provided by the state until they die in the gutter, how empathetic... Our streets have become unregulated open air jails/ mental heath centers that cost more then what jails or lock-down treatment centers would cost to operate. Ludicrous!!!
    We the people are less safe, our morale is low, and crime is high. We already have "tinny homes" that work better then what they trying do now, they're called jail cells. I've seen plenty of times where ex-addicts were so grateful after time jail because it was the only way they'd get clean and sober.
    Stop voting for people just because they have a (D) next to their name or have delusional empathetic ideas that might sound good, vote for people who have polices that make sense. I'd like to blame the government for this mess but in reality it's the fault of 60% of Californians that keep putting theses numskulls into power. We just need 10-15% to not be woke and to just wake up. Fix yourselves California.

      It's one project
      Here in San Jose we have at least 8 of these tiny home communities
      These have successfully transitioned some homeless back into the work force and society,
      A majority of the homeless are mental ill or people who want to party and not follow rules.

Who is going to pay for the security for the crime that is going to happen in these communities? How will these communities impact permanent residents who have lived in their homes for years? What will they do with the trash? Since these tiny homes have no bathrooms or electricity, how or where will its occupants relieve themselves?

    It would be far cheaper to build a complex of small efficiency apartments. At 100k per unit for "sleeping cabins" without facilities, you could provide an apt bldg with small units which include bathroom and kitchenette. Another incredibly stupid and wasteful idea from Gruesome Newsom.

    Most of the people who are homeless drug addicted people don’t want to move into housing because they don’t want to follow the rules about using drugs
    If you move them into housing they will just trash them
    I sure hope that the people who want help get it

    Make up your mind! 1,200 tiny homes OR 1,200 beds? 1,200 beds are mentioned and 1,200 units across 4 cities are mentioned. But a smallish, flimsy looking bunk bed (for 2 people) is also shown. So it seems that the answer might be 1,200 units that sleep 2 people each.

    what they need to do is open all those massive state mental hospitals every state used to have, then open up the flophouses again for people who can't afford apartments. LA, SF, Chicago, NYC, some of their flophouses were famous. There was a time when all I could afford was a 400 sq ft studio apartment and I was happy to have it.

    Well, if anyone has seen the homeless in ca, they’d know throwing a home at them isn’t gonna fix the problem. A lot of them have addictions and mental problems (maybe pre-existing or drug-induced). They might actually destroy the home if no one supervised them. I know some people had homes to sleep in but chose to go sleep in the park or bushes when they were on a bender. And if they stayed home it looked like a bear tore through their room,

    • @wownewstome6123
      @wownewstome6123 22 дня назад

      I believe the plan is to have them supervised and connect the people to services, like mental health and drug treatment. Look at how existing sites with sleeping cabins are operated in California. (They need to stop calling them "tiny houses" imo.)
