    I'm just starting to hunt more seriously at age 41. I have 2 sons to hunt with, so money is short. This video was very helpful to keep my head straight when so much of this gear is hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I will spend my money for 3 hunters, so this is a good reminder about frugality and the marketing of hunting.

    This video was very helpful. Going to hunt this year for the first time at age 36. It’s easy to get sucked in and feel like you need to spend a lot of money on full camo, which was the direction I was headed. Money is tight so this video nudged me in the right direction, especially being a beginner. Watching this saved me money which I’m grateful for. Thanks!

      Jason is right you don’t need a bunch of fancy gear I got the Columbia Ascender jacket off his recommendation and it’s amazing and you can get a army green colored one on their website right now on sale for $45 a absolute steal for that jacket, the only camo I think is really helpful is a vest you can get a nice soft shell one for around $100 or just get polyester one for half that price or fleece for even cheaper, but some fleece tends to snag debris in the woods, best of luck with your new hunting endeavors!!

    I agree about the camo but deer brown clothing is a color to avoid. Camo for duck and coyote hunting can give you an edge. Muted earth tone colors are good . Green , Gray , and brown plaids work fine. Most deer hunters in southern state hunt from a box blind anyway. Hunting alpine or tundra requires different clothing. Lighter , freedom of movement and warmth is what is needed in cold weather.

Started purchasing some of the Sitka Whitetail line, and although its obnoxiously expensive... I'm really liking it! Someone was thinking when they designed this stuff as it is very archery hunter friendly... and makes my UA clothing look and feel like "Fruit of the Loom" So... if your account (wife) is OK with it, there is some really nice stuff available too!

    • @SamkoTradBow

    Great approach - whitetail hunters often think they are Rocky Mountain sheep hunters and drop a thousand dollars or more on a kit- just not necessary... though, some of the first lite cold gear is a luxury to have in those 10 degree stand days...

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  4 года назад +2

      Well said. If I had a nickel for all the deer hunters there wear ultra high end gear to sit on stand for 3 hours in 50 degree temps..lol now dont get me wrong I own a few really good high end pieces that I use for certain situations. But to go sit on a tree stand a quarter mile from the truck on a 30 degree day there is no need for 500 dollars worth of merino base layers and expensive insulation clothing. A 20 dollar pair of heavy weight fleece thermals and a 10 dollar pair of heavy sweat pants will work just fine.

    What do you recommend kuiu chugach or first lite rain gear

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  3 года назад

      Both are fantastic. For whitetails the firstlite. For a big serious back country or like an Alaskan hunt chugatch as its a little thicker and probably more durable.

    Do you think the jacket an the pants apply when hunting elk? There are some hunters up here in Alberta that swear by Camo, they dont think it's possible to get an elk without camo

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  4 года назад

      There are many many people that kill elk without camo. And if i ever went walk hunting I would not be wearing camo. But if you think it helps or it gives you more confidence then definitely wear it!

    Jason I love alot of your videos but I think you are leaning towards selling more gear/ garments. I am a big believer in alot of what you practice and learned in the field but I'm also a bit gear freak. I like your videos but lately I have been skipping over them. And I have upgraded to some of the gear you use in the past. Get back to you !

      That's why I do 2 videos every week where everyone else only does 1 video a week. I make sure one video is education and one is gear. The gear pays me to do this. Also the gear videos get way more views than the hunting stuff does. That is think is crazy but it is what the analytics show.

      @@SamkoTradBow that is great! But I would like to ask you a very honest question I hunt with a lone wolf climber and sit all day hike only 300yards in strap all my heavy gear and camera and all weighing in at close to 45lbs give me a key/ I don't know about.

      @@SamkoTradBow yes I'm thinking of using all first lite gear more of a layering system. And on my climber I attached a camera arm holder the on that you put on a tripod for inside a blind which works great. But as much as I try and lighten my gear it still is heavy and if I have to go any distance I sweat like crazy!

      @@jonathankochie4423 on really long hikes I will sweat too. I do one of 2 things. Sometimes I shed my outer layers and strap them on my pack as I hike in. Other times I'm just too lazy and just unzip my jacket, take my hat off and move slow so I dont sweat.
