Since 1990, Jim Nutt has focused exclusively on female heads in spare line drawings and rich, detailed paintings. This exhibition is a retrospective of Jim Nutt's work that emphasizes the development of these important paintings through their precedents in his other works. Acknowledging the groundswell of interest in this unique American artist, this is the first major presentation of Nutt in over a decade. Nutt's history as an artist dates to the mid-1960s where he was a chief instigator of Chicago's irreverent "Hairy Who" group, now better known as the imagists.

I visited the exhibition three times while it was up. It seems that only clichès can express how amazing Nutt's work is up close. He creates a luminescence and such sensitive color and value shifts that can only truly be experienced directly with one's own eyes, no cameras. Here, a year later, and I'm still returning to his work in any way I can. Thanks MCA!

Plexiglass is acrylic so perhaps that is why the acrylic paint would not come off? Perhaps they bonded together
