@unorthodoxtrotsky The "destroyed" notes, or "wrong" keys are meant to represent the mental break down in a person's mind once their emotions have become uncontrollable. As the person attempts to recover their thoughts and cover up the craziness they begin to slip. Joy, sadness, anger, envy, depression, false hope, all become colliding aspects in the thinker and goes from being a moment of peace and thought process (the piano solo) to no longer be able to hold onto sanity (the piano breakdown).
A beautifully played piano part as always. Yoshiki is a pure genius. This is definatly my second favorite song by them, with forever love as my first. X Japan forever, RIP hide.
This is so beautiful, I am literally moved to tears. It's like a musical battle between yoshiki the musician and yoshiki the person, that is being fully expressed though the piano. He he a true artist!
I just had a friend who passed away and I sat there listening to X Japan ballads all day, this song included. I was crying due to his death and how this song fit into this stage of life.
Ya that's your own opinion and I respect that. I've been playing the drums since I was 11 so that's 11 years now. I've performed in so many places. All over america with my school band and later in high school up til now when I was in a metal band for awhile we played all over the place. I always love it when someone just puts everything they have into music, it just makes it that much better for me. When you can see that a musician really cares taht much the music is that much better.
This is always the hardest part of the track for me to get through since it gets so counter-melodic and chaotic. I appreciate what it represents in the overall motif of the song, which is epic to say the least. But at the end of the day, Yoshiki having an argument with the piano for 10 mins isn't exactly the easiest thing on the ears, you know? ^^; Bless him... LOL Art of Life is utterly amazing though, and performed live it is a truly awesome spectacle.
Because of Yoshiki, I now know how to play piano and drums. He is my inspirations! And the way he goes wild when he plays... He is an amazing artist. Forever he will be my favourite musician...
'i believe in the madness called Now, past and future prison my heart' if u look at the lyric, u can understand his madness, anger, frustration, that mix with tender, passion and love... its the art of life... simply amazing...
When I first heard how it starts from being slow and melodic to complete chaos, I literally got goosebumps! Amazing! I wish I could pay attention in class for 30 minutes, so I can't believe I can listen to an entire 30 minute song! Then again, it IS X Japan!
A song like this can inspire feelings in those that are not stupid to cry over. Loved ones torn away, personal failures, whatever it may be. To say that it is stupid to cry over a song like this is to say it is stupid to cry over anything. That may be your personal opinion but it certainly isn't mine.
Chikuso....I have a Japanese student staying with me for the year and this is one of his favorite bands...I wish I knew they were touring...I just missed them playing nearby....figures...damn it! This part of the song, though repetitive is very emotive...love this band...he got me into them quick and I don't even like "metal" music...
@Hikeroose no because actually the piano part is the important part of this song....it resemble your feeling, you think what you wanna do with your life, end it or continue it..and in the end (last part of song) you realize that you wanna live on
This guy does what music supossed to do... transmit emotions.. I mean, it's great to see a guy or girl playing technically awesome... but in the end, what remains is what the music left you inside, that is what you will remember..
una obra maestra, yoshiki un verdadero virtuoso del piano, tocada con verdaderos sentimientos, se me ponen los pelos de punta, es algo perfecto, maravilloso... X.Japan.4EveR!!!
hmm since they have been going 20+ years and have made countless amount of great songs and yoshiki (pianiest drumemr) writes all the music and this song is an absalute masterpiece if you know what its about the piano is all about drifting from one place to another in your life going up and down from good to bad and in the end it will always go back to normal so have a good look on life, thats what it means to me anyway, but as you say your opinion
I love Yoshiki, he has really good talent, on the other hand, I have no idea how he plays on that rotating platform like that and still so perfect, me myself, I'd be sick.
This doesn't really have anything to do with this but I heard that Beethoven came to tears after he saw the standing ovation for his debut of Ode to Joy. I thought saying this because some were saying this made them cry. On topic, this is my favorite part of the song and the whole thing is awesome too.
for anyone who comes to this page just to bash the band or the song, get a life already. The rest of us don't want to hear it and just want to enjoy the amazing music this band performs.
due know, this piano solo reminds of a big massive storm approaching, and as he beats the piano the storm gets worse as he keeps battering the piano, but at the end everything goes back to normal as he takes it down a notch, absolutely amazing. oh BTW do any of youse know how i can download X Japan songs, i tried itunes and bit comet, nothing seems to work
One day, I am going to learn to play the Piano and master it like Yoshiki. But I know, I can't beat him. But still he is the greatest musical genius ever!! Yoshiki FTW!! \m/
The song and album is called Art of Life, but I think you know that. As for the piano, this is an origional composition by Yoshiki, however the song is based off of Shuberts Unfinished (No. 8).
Oh. and @stevo302, There's a quote that fits the situation: Looper: "What? Lots of bands use drum loops.." Rocker: "Lots of elevators play Celin Dion. That don't make it right."
hide played guitar in X JAPAN...remember...Yoshiki and hide are two different persons. I love then both. I love this solo and hid'e's too but i''ll never tell hide was better cause i think Yoshi is as good as him
I'm not sure what I can expect from a person who thinks that THIS is horrible. How can you say that? This is X Japan, and Art of Life the best masterpiecie to be ever created! I said R&B, just because I don't like it. I could have said hip-hop or any other 'weird' music. Is it clear now? And if it's not then just calm down I don't even want to talk to someone who says that THIS is horrbile... And if it is... Why did you listen to it? Huh?
wow :O that`s amazing :O he`s like possded or something.... I guess he really feels in his element when he`s on the stage :) this is how many supposed artist that want only money should be -.-" because if they chooosed to make music, they should make music, for the sake of doing it, not for the sake of being paid !!! thanks for uploading this, is fantastic
@rakke95 watch your words! you can`t say something like that! they are both [YES, I SAID ARE!] great musicians ! you can`t compare them! MJ sings pop music, and hd dedicated his entire life to music, and I`m sure Yoshiki did the same! yes, Yoshiki is a great musician and has an amazing talent, but you can`t say something like that!!!
the "other" person playing the piano inst yoshiki? i mean, its impossible to play this with just one person, but the "first part" was recorded and was playing, thats what i think. that also gives him time to rest a little from the battery.
Or your reaction just shows that you're insensitive to subtleties or to certain mental states. You'll notice that the backup pianist mainly plays the motif. Yoshiki dances around that motif in a hundred outlandish ways, but (to be metaphorical) he just can't escape it.
Dear Aizen9, I appreciate your comments, but you miss my point. I didn't engage the song itself or its meaning (which I do understand (; ) or the art, it's just that as a musician, you should be able to play the music you've written yourself and don't overdo it (which unfort. a lot of bands do today) by putting hundreds of parallel recordings behind it. And as a keyboarder myself, I tell you that you should be able to play rhythm and lead at the same time, especially in a piano solo like that.
@DaenThunderKnight I see . . . thanks! And I'm sorry people trolled you like that; it's not nice to be trolled, I know. Maybe we'll find out who it was one day.
5.51 and 5.54 theres someone under the piano im not imagining that, im not so sure i like the way hes throwing himself about trying to make it epic or something, i think music should speak for its self especially something like piano it should be clean and unadulterated but i could grow to like it. i dont know to be honest.
@unorthodoxtrotsky The "destroyed" notes, or "wrong" keys are meant to represent the mental break down in a person's mind once their emotions have become uncontrollable. All the emotions in this pianosolo is piercing right through the heart.
I love it so much.
without this part, the song would be incomplete.
Yeah I wonder why most fans skip this part 😄
This is easily one of the best things I've ever heard played on a piano.
Without a doubt the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard. I'm speechless.
feels like bring me to another world and this so fu*king awesome
I found it.... After 10 fuckin years!!!!!!!! THX RUclips!!! thx X Japan
This IS life. That's all that can be said about this piano solo. It encapsulates perfectly the "art" of living.

Too much greatness in one person.
A beautifully played piano part as always. Yoshiki is a pure genius. This is definatly my second favorite song by them, with forever love as my first. X Japan forever, RIP hide.

Yoshiki is making love with the piano! :D

Ya that's your own opinion and I respect that. I've been playing the drums since I was 11 so that's 11 years now. I've performed in so many places. Because of Yoshiki, I now know how to play piano and drums. He is my inspirations!
And the way he goes wild when he plays... He is an amazing artist.
Forever he will be my favourite musician...
Why does this part have th least views, it's the most impressive
'i believe in the madness called Now, past and future prison my heart' if u look at the lyric, u can understand his madness, anger, frustration, that mix with tender, passion and love... its the art of life... simply amazing...
This is pure art! Yoshiki is genius!
X Japan are the spirit of music. Heavily talented and adept at awesome. I'm shocked I've never heard this band before.
When I first heard how it starts from being slow and melodic to complete chaos, I literally got goosebumps! Amazing!
I wish I could pay attention in class for 30 minutes, so I can't believe I can listen to an entire 30 minute song! Then again, it IS X Japan!
This song truly does depict the art of living. This is life. In these 9 minutes, this is life.
i think that yoshiki is one of the best musicians and artists of all times
A song like this can inspire feelings in those that are not stupid to cry over. Loved ones torn away, personal failures, whatever it may be. To say that it is stupid to cry over a song like this is to say it is stupid to cry over anything. That may be your personal opinion but it certainly isn't mine.
i am so glad to watch Yoshi's play...he is a genuis no doubt... i wish X will make tour in BKK soon (2009?)
Really beautiful... this song make me feel very good
this part is so awesome... especially when it rains
Aaah, so beautiful. This is pure genius.
Breathtaking.
I'm crazy about this man, he's just amazing, he's the best
Hearing/Seeing this song live would be SO freakin amazing! The people that were there for this are SO lucky! :|
@soldier9599 damn right, i've heard this song in full about 100 times already and i'm still not bored of this song, no joke
I love it. Can't believe I've never heard this before... I reckon they could have trimmed about 3 mins from this segment though!
yoshiki is the bets of this world because when he plays the piano hi plays whith his soul and body.
my english is very poor.:(
@Hikeroose
no because actually the piano part is the important part of this song....it resemble your feeling, you think what you wanna do with your life, end it or continue it..and in the end (last part of song) you realize that you wanna live on

This song bleeds pure emotion.
if you don`t like about this part... you are hearing the music and no feeling the music. Is simply EPIC

Damn, he got everything a musician could have.. plus he is handsome that was an extra.
truly INSPIRING and AMZING! :)
Purely Amazing... epic!

I love Yoshiki, he has really good talent, on the other hand, I have no idea how he plays on that rotating platform like that and still so perfect, me myself, I'd be sick.

@Luvinhas That's how the song originally ended. Check out End of the World on Rose and Blood, the early X demo album.
due know, this piano solo reminds of a big massive storm approaching, and as he beats the piano the storm gets worse as he keeps battering the piano, but at the end everything goes back to normal as he takes it down a notch, absolutely amazing. oh BTW do any of youse know how i can download X Japan songs, i tried itunes and bit comet, nothing seems to work
Very well put :3
One day, I am going to learn to play the Piano and master it like Yoshiki.
But I know, I can't beat him.
But still he is the greatest musical genius ever!!
Yoshiki FTW!! \m/
the main-theme reminds me of supertramp ... somehow.... live in paris.....
But great how he works with effects and dubs
this part starts to scare me a bit when I listened to it alone in my room....this song really brings out everything in a person.
The song and album is called Art of Life, but I think you know that.
As for the piano, this is an origional composition by Yoshiki, however the song is based off of Shuberts Unfinished (No. 8).
I cry 4 u YOSHIKI!!!
@stockok and composers. He wrote pretty much this entire masterpiece. :) and rip hide. One of the best guitarist of all time.
You know - one part of this song was proof enough to show that they're epic.
This is just overkill ^_^
Oh. and @stevo302, There's a quote that fits the situation:
Looper: "What? Lots of bands use drum loops.."
Rocker: "Lots of elevators play Celin Dion. That don't make it right."
hide played guitar in X JAPAN...remember...Yoshiki and hide are two different persons. I love then both. I love this solo and hid'e's too but i''ll never tell hide was better cause i think Yoshi is as good as him
X Japan rules !
he must be on something when playing the piano! its fantastic!!

Imagine if a band like maiden or journey covered it....
I think that would be the best musical thing to ever happen.
wow this part of somewhat an emotional climax
I'm not sure what I can expect from a person who thinks that THIS is horrible.
How can you say that? This is X Japan, and Art of Life the best masterpiecie to be ever created!
I said R&B, just because I don't like it. I could have said hip-hop or any other 'weird' music. Is it clear now?

I agree with you
i love it. it'slike he's making love to the piano
yes at 2008 return concert at day 1...yoshiki collapsed at half of this song....the half rest of the song was play at day 3
I don't know why, but I don't like the studio version as much as I like this one.
Awesome, have to cheack it out asap :D
WOW
the "other" person playing the piano inst yoshiki? i mean, its impossible to play this with just one person, but the "first part" was recorded and was playing, thats what i think.
that also gives him time to rest a little from the battery.
haha yoshiki play the piano like a drum xD
Yes me too, I also want to know who is the first person playing the piano before Yoshiki san.
maiden would love this band
@Suikoden4ever You're both right!
Or your reaction just shows that you're insensitive to subtleties or to certain mental states.
You'll notice that the backup pianist mainly plays the motif. Yoshiki dances around that motif in a hundred outlandish ways, but (to be metaphorical) he just can't escape it.
and he didnt have to bet the shit out of his piano
Dear Aizen9,
I appreciate your comments, but you miss my point. i didn't understand that piano continues playing while he's not playing it.
btw epic song
That's pre-recorded.. the same with the drum part on endless rain or tears when he's playing the piano
5.51 and 5.54 theres someone under the piano im not imagining that, im not so sure i like the way hes throwing himself about trying to make it epic or something, i think music should speak for its self especially something like piano it should be clean and unadulterated but i could grow to like it. i dont know to be honest.
If anyone wants to end this song dramatacly dont change to the next part xD
J'aime ses clusters
who`s the man who sings at the piano before Yoshiki appears?
Amazing video , I just love it
