    He probably doesn't remember, but when he was at Blackburn I was 10 years old and during the warm up the players were taking shots, one of his smashed me in the head and knocked me unconscious for a minute or two. From what I rememeber/my mum tells me he was very apologetic and told us to go round to the Jack Walker stand after the game. He came down to meet us and offered for me, my parents and two brothers to go up and meet the players, unfortunately we were on our way to see my grandad who was in hospital but he gave me his match shirt (Hignett 15, 2002 season), still have it to this day.     Love Higgy he’s a Boro legend! I was mascot for Boro at the 96 Coca Cola cup final against Leicester at the old Wembley, I remember how sound he was I done a back heel to him and he said who did you learn that from, I replied back Juninho haha

    For me, Higgy was always up there with the best of them at Boro but still remains down to earth.

    Love Higgy. Genuinely one of the nicest people in football. One of my all time favourite Boro players.

    Loved him for the boro, he could take a decent free kick and scored first goal at the riverside. Him Barmby and Fjortoft were unreal our first season promoted under Robson

    Higgy scored 28 goals in 66 games at Barnsley in the free role behind the strikers. He's very fondly remembered by the Oakwell faithful. He did brilliant for the club and we were all gutted to see him leave. Great player and great podcast 👍

      We sold you Wilko, Hendrie and Higgy. Those 3 could Terrorise any championship defence. You taking them made Barnsley my 2nd team.

      @@cheech7900 Happy days those were mate. Wilko and Hendrie were absolutely awesome for us and even though they both were coming towards the end of their careers, they gave it absolutely everything in a Barnsley shirt and were an integral part of the side that reached the Premiership

    As a young Crewe fan he was my favourite player and I was gutted when he left. Highlight was single handedly destroying Wrexham in the FA Cup when we won 6-1.

    He was brilliant for Barnsley. I'd go and watch them in all weathers just to see the team in the mid to late nineties because they played some outstanding football. And nights out in the centre were better than anywhere else!

Also great to see u in Leeds Jon avin a pint unfortunately not at the races. Looking well in the suit. And Chris am buzzing cos I’ve just being in two minds to buy 5 pair of tesco white socks £8 or Umbro and couldn’t decide which was worse and thought I’d go two stripes and hide em under me trackies, but your rocking em pal nice one 👍🏼

    Very much a player you didn’t realise what he did for the team until he’d gone and so much absolute shit followed, he was a Mustoe type player with more goals and I hope he has as many fond memories of Boro as we fans do of him cos there’s massive respect for the man especially in my eyes

    I met Higgy when I was a kid on the airplane to Lapland. Luckily I had my Boro top on and my Mum asked him for his autograph. He wrote ‘ Luke, have a ‘cool’ time and signed it. Legend

    Remember when Aberdeen signed Hignett I couldn’t believe it. One of the greatest signings in our history, even though it was short-lived.

    I’ve know ravonelli’s window cleaner from when he was at the boro.
    Rav lived in ingleby barwick.
    The week Rav left the Boro he saw his window cleaner and said I’m leaving this week. I’ve already paid for next week. Can I have my £5 back please 😂

      Er - no, Ravenelli didnt live in Ingleby Barwick. He lived in Hutton Rudby. As did Merson, Karembeau and few others in a club house next to Gordon Mcqueens house

    Remember watching hignett run the show against my beloved bristol rovers in the fa Cup at Oakwell. Some player. Im pretty sure barnsley got Tottenham in the next round and ginola scored a wonder goal.

    Years ago my second cousin worked for 'Quickfit' the car garage, they would play regional games, newacastle branches vs borough one and vs Sunderland etc, just for bragging rights, we played the borough lads and me and my mate were positive Hignett was playing, he was head and shoulders above the rest but didn't take the piss, we both played at a decent level and took turns man marking him, just couldn't do anything with him
    He had full cell net training kit on as well, he only scored one blinder, but I think was just playing for fitness

    I swear Hignett signed for leeds when we got relegated from the prem.... he mightve just been on trial. I think he played a few pre season games, would've been 04/05 season.
