Welcome to Chiufen or Jiufen Old Street in Taipei City. It's a poppin' shopping district, famous village, and a charming tourist spot.
Eating at Jiufen is AMAZING. They have all sorts of Taiwanese foods and desserts. This small village, located within the hills, facing the ocean is a buzzing center of Taiwanese street eats.
I said the name flat in the video, the English pronunciation. Jiufen in Chinese is pronounced with a heavier emphasis on the "fen" so it's like..."fèn" not just "fen".
Jiufen is also the town that inspired the bathhouse in one of Miyazaki's films Spirited Away. In Jiufen you can literally eat your way through a Miyazaki Film.
My recommendation is to try to go on a weekday and do the morning tour so you can avoid fewer crowds. I still think this is a must-visit destination in Taipei and would still love to go back again!

I just saw you walk past me here in Forest Hills ! Of course its not easy to say "hello" to any stranger but, I've been watching your international shows between Taiwan to Mainland China to the great destinations you travel to epicurean delights ... it's fascinating how much you do try on each day. Of course the meaty dishes are daunting for a vegan. Pork is really not something I can stomach or eat. And it's so fatty and gross. Its impossible to get past. But its delightful seeing you enjoy the moment tasting these delicacies you select ! Such a travelogue of course !
